Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

What are you on about? I think anyone would be lying if they said they hadn't hoped that we'd be doing better than we are at this stage, but most reasonable people could see that this was a very different task to that of, say, David Moyes at Everton or Pereira at Wolves (who literally said that one of the reasons he went to them was because they already played his style of football). Amorim was absolutely cystal clear, from his first interview (the long one with Gary Neville) onwards, that he would have preferred to come at the end of the season because his intention was to completely change the formation, and that this would mean things would be rocky for some time. There's no way that he wouldn't have said the exact same thing in his job interview. So what goalposts are you actually talking about? The ones that you imposed in your mind?

Stand your ground, Ruben!
We're here for it!

Powerful statement that he must have assurances from leadership he's not going to be Ashworthed.

Talk about signing your own death warrant. They could give him the bum's rush at the end of the season and say it's not their fault but the coach's. Don't think it will happen but it's a risky thing to say.

And they will still have to pay him his contract. I don’t think they care about blame.

You almost sound like you want him to be sacked.

Leave Ruben alone! Picturing the mascara running from tears and everything.
I’m glad you’re taking such an interest in that poster’s comments, but maybe just send him a DM and see if you can meet up.
how old are you?

You are posting on a thread about the United manager - 3 months into his tenure. Regardless of whether you think he's the right guy or not the hysterical and disrespectful tone of your posts is an embarrassment. You seem desperate for him to fail - which is an odd thing for a United fan to be excited about?

INEOS are absolutely not going to accept poor results if this continues into the beginning of next season.
I think Rubin will be given until Winter 2025. If things continue to be like this, he'll be fired.
Which would be an absolute disaster from INEOS. Hiring and signing two managers in 18 months (I know they didn't hire EtH, but they kept him on and extended his contract).

You're good to go

They have to give him time. They forced him to sign earlier with none of his signings. This season should not even be a question of sacking him. I guess when he signs his own players this summer and there's not an improvement then questions will be asked.

Do you think we'll improve come May? If so why? I guess we need at least 3 top class signings to make us top 4 challengers. I doubt we achieve that during the summer.

Yeah, so winter 25 which was what I was replying too..

He talks as if he has won 3 PL titles and success down the road is a certainty.
He does appear to have an extreme overconfidence in his coaching abilities and tactical system. But then I guess you have to if you’re aiming to be a top manager one day.

There have been some signs, to be fair. We've had a couple of really good results/performances against better sides.
But is that something new? The team have been like this for years, put a performance on when they can be fecked, and shit the bed after.

I'm not Amorim out by the way, but I'm not sure I share his confidence that this will all be worth it for next season. Feels more like hopeful thinking.

The excuse before was lack of training, which was fair, but that was over a month ago and I'm not sure there has been much improvement since.

At the moment he is trying to sell an idea to a squad of players which is failing in every aspect. We could go into next season with a squad with zero confidence not buying a single plan he has.

I'm not really sure I want my manager to come out and say "Well, we decided to do it this way and really we're just crossing our fingers and praying it works out at this point. To be honest, as the weeks go by I'm getting less and less sure it's gonna turn around but look it's too late to change course now we're just trying to keep a brave face on and keep plugging away despite it all!"

Based on he will only ever play this system and won't change it that is basically what he saying.

I respect him for sticking to his beliefs and I reallt hope it works out. But if you aren't prepared to change, then you are just hoping at some point it works because there is no other solution.

People who follow Sporting might confirm but similar scenarios. First getting rid of overpaid, lazy footballers, sticking to his plan tactics wise and then getting in his players and instilling new ethics and mentaility to completely change things and building a title aspiring/winning team. Of course it will be a long journey in the PRem or on this level and might take time but of all managers post Fergie, I give him the highest chance.

Hes genuine guy who fears nobody, never bullshit anyone. FInally someone who would actually put club in the first place, not individual player. He kicked out/dropped Antony, Rashford, Casemiro, Eriksen and even underperforming Hojlund very quickly. He understands what is needed. Also there are recognizable game patterns, unlike with other managers. We will eventually see tirelss MANUTD team able to press other teams which not a single manager post fergie including Fergie for the last 15 plus years implemented. Absolutely shocking tbh looking back at it. and with both hardworking and top talented players we will rise again. Title 21 might be difficult in fact looking at the competition, but I am sure we will be entertaining again. Give it a two transfer windows. We should see post summer.

Quenda, Gyokeres/Delap, World class CM, Someone like Dibling in, Chido with Rashford breakthrough, Garnacho and Amad firing next season, Mainoo trasnformed all with full preseason under their belt.

Even if we are not performing in the league. Amorim already showed in a very short time he can beat all City, Pool and Arsenal. Europa run looks pretty good now. Just need to get more players on board to drive the dominant football more consistently out of them.

I just really hope he will be backed at least one big transfer window. Arteta in his first season was also very underwhelming and he got them to fight for top4 again now.

I like what he said and think that he needs to get more out of this team and establish a sustainable playing style. It’s the way to show he is the one.

Thanks for that, great post.

Oh he deserves these questions every single interview he attends. He is the one froze him out and wanted rid after all
Jesus could you be any more if a Rashford fanboy? Are you a United supporter or a Rashford one? Because it's very hard to tell

I’m sorry but I highly doubt it was your decision Ruben not to sign more players in January. Have they made you come out and say that to defend them?

No he doesn’t. He isn’t our player for the remainder of the season. Therefore he shouldn’t get asked about him anymore.

Jesus there really is some nutters in here who want him sacked already! It's unbelievable reading it.

The guys on the athletic podcast have discussed this. In many of the extended parts of press conferences the subject of systems have come up and the discussion has been about the fact that the system is nowhere near as rigid as people like to make out. In various parts of games there have been tweaks made in all areas of the field and Rueben is quite adept at doing this.

Our team lacks strength, stamina and pace but beyond this the biggest thing it lacks is confidence. This has been the case for a long time. When was the last time you felt confident we could easily dispatch a team playing a low block against us? Years. This change has been needed for so long. We cannot get back to the top on counter attacking football - even Ole knew that years ago.

I believe Rueben is the right guy to do it. During periods of play you can see what he's trying to do which is something that was hard to say about ETH. We seem to be getting more solid at the back and Garnacho is starting to look more like a useful player in the system. In the last game we actually saw a lot more players crashing the box, crucial to the system, He has a month now where there are no midweek games so hopefully things can improve further with Dorgu and an actual left foot. Mostly he needs to get Rasmus doing the right things again - he's got into bad habits probably through frustration.

I just really fear he's going to struggle considering the financial burdens he faces. We are likely paying over 1.5m a week on salaries alone for players we cannot sell or who are perpetually injured, so he has next to no ability to generate funds through player sales. Plus the debt plus the remaining fees on already purchased players.

You've typed that out like Ruben is on the cafe here with us
