Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Do we really need him to do that? What more is there to expose?

Unless he changes the system then there isn't much choice, they're just a bad bunch.

Tbh the worst thing he could do is make them look better than they are by changing his system at this point, as the club have to act in the summer big time now.

We're either all in with Amorim or you might as well let him go.

I dont understand this at all. Why should we keep on accepting that losing games is OK? What makes you so certain that he will be able to turn this around when he gets his players?

It doesn't matter whether you accept it or not, it's going to happen. There is nothing the manager can do to stop this team sucking their way to a mid-table finish, with the losses along the way that implies.

And I'm not at all certain he'll turn it around in the long term. But that's completely irrelevant. Because it doesn't change the fact that there's nothing substantial to gain this season by being "pragmatic".

I agree 100% But Ineos should back him in this window. Look how city are treating Peps issues this season. Why force him to start mid season if he wasn't going to be backed, it's confusing to me.
Oh, we should start making changes this window but I also hope we don't commit to any specialised players that we might start wondering what to do with them if it doesn't improve and Amorim goes.

I do wonder if INEOS are starting to have doubts. He obviously needs backing, but are they commit to it if we continue like this?

Zero control in the midfield just Ten Hag.

Not enough bodies in the midfield. Backline way too deep. He's making the same mistakes.

The system seems to work against the biggest sides but that's not how you progress.

Progress comes from clean sheets, winning at home and brushing aside weaker teams.

We do none of that. We are a plucky cup team.
It’s Ten Hag’s team…

Fans turning on him already, yet celebrating when ten hag didn't get sacked in the summer. Eth has caused all the issues you see today. Anthony, Onana, Hojlund all big transfers that will linger on this club for years, nevermind Mason mount sat at home for 50 million while chelsea got cole palmer for that money.

I said at the beginning that I'd call it as I see it with Amorim. Maybe that will make me sound inconsistent. Hard not to be inconsistent when the team is.

As I've said before, I don't blame him for what we are and for having a squad that is not suited to his approach. That's entirely on Omar Berrada and our supposedly best-in-class leadership. They picked him knowing what he is and knowing what he would have at his disposal.

However, it is concerning that we never really looked like scoring from open play. Our attack was toothless. Even on the counter. None of his changes improved the situation either.

It was also concerning that our pressing shape, again, was really bad. The Southampton game should have been a warning. However, Mitoma got in after what five minutes simply because nobody was tight to him. Again, several times our frontline pushed up and left our defence as an island.

These are his responsibility to fix and its just not happening. While the mentality of the team is still all over the place.

Its not super inspiring.

Because they're not that good
Mainoo and Garnacho are capable of better than what they're showing. There's a problem with the system or at least how the urgency is of the play, and Amorim is culpable in that.

According to him, if the results don’t improve he won’t be able to convince his players of his system. With that in mind, how does it help with us losing with such regularity?

If the opponents know you are playing 3 at the back and have set the opposition up to counter it, maybe we do something different/tweak the system to counter that back.

You don’t have to completely abandon your beliefs, but you can still tweak them to better suit the squad and the league.

The players are definitely mostly shite, but Amorim has to shoulder a fair bit of this blame. You don’t need a team of 11 superstars to outplay Soton.

Need to drop the sense of entitlement there, Brighton have better players than Utd in almost every position. You said it yourself, the squad is crap, so how is he to ‘throw a team together’ to beat them?
Exactly. Was very impressed with Brighton’s back line. That Minteh is a good player. And Mitoma is miles better than Garnacho.

Nah, you need to accept that these players are not very good. Every PL team has international players.
I think when he took over we were 4 points from the top 4, how many are we now? That was with Ruud getting us points and he’s only managed for a season or two in Holland previously. The players don’t suit the system, it makes players like Garnacho, Mainoo, Mazraoui worse. We need to sell a good amount of the squad to get Rubén’s football to work, it’s another massive gamble from the club.

His version of 5-2-3 is definitely the worst one. 2 no 10s is just a terrible idea as it doesn’t provide us the necessary width and the players he buys won’t be of use in most formations if he doesn’t work out.

You can add Højlund and Zirkzee to that. We wasted an incredibly amount of resources and only made the squad worse. Meanwhile there seems to be a serious overrating of players like Garnacho, Mainoo, and Dalot. They can't be starters just because they've put in the good game here and there.

It's not the manager. He's not doing a perfect job, clearly, but any manager coming into this shitshow would struggle.

The squad. It's shite.

Yeah Rasmus in particular is another one given the price and we can’t offload any of the either because of PSR. Essentially we’re screwed with or without Amorim for a while.

People calling for Amorim to be sacked. Cop on ffs.
What's he supposed to do with this squad. People will say that he should change to a different formation to suit the players but they have proven they aren't much better in other set ups.
And we don't have money to spend so we will most likely have to keep some of these players meaning they have got to get used to the way Amorim wants to do things.

Anorim will be sacked not through anything other than INEOS decision and their strategic incompetence.

Look at the conditions of his employment, his contract doesn't reflect the time needed for a rebuild, after this season he's essentially got 24 months left and when you account for United's lack of business (historically) in January that's only two summer windows to change fortunes.

Projectively that's not enough time and resources for there to be drastic change. It might be achievable under a different operational model with vast access to finances and different utilities; such as clearlake / middle eastern ownership (not that I'm praising them but contrasting with INEOS).

Even Amorim has said his job isn't essentially 'safe' but worst case scenario and he is sacked subjectively for me he will be in the exact same bracket as LVG where the executives acted too hastily and the managers genuinely deserved more time.

Murtough, Ten Hag, and Glazers. They are criminals to waste so much money to worsen the squad.

Thankfully there is some sanity in the fan base that can see the utter dreadful bunch of players that are the cause, the only cause, of our current predicament. The are awful at almost 70-80% of aspects professional and PL players should be capable of. I'm sure when he made the comments of 'storm is to come' is when he realised after a few training sessions what a truly awful they are!

Really want him to succeed, but we look absolutely awful under him. At the very least you have to see improvement and at least a top half finish.
We scraped past the worst team in PL history.

Realistically, we're only going to be able to sign 4 or 5 players. I just can't see how we will improve enough in general play for us to achieve top 4 again with only 4 new players incoming.
Add a new keeper to the list too.

When he first came in, you could really see the patterns of play working and the shape forming. Saw it against Liverpool.

But at home, and in the premier league, we look like the players haven’t played together. No patterns thus far. It’s concerning.

I think when he took over we were 4 points from the top 4, how many are we now? That was with Ruud getting us points and he’s only managed for a season or two in Holland previously. Keep using excuses.

This will be the case with most candidates but at least the guy doesn't insist on playing 3 at the back all the time.

It won’t make much difference, it’s basically saying f replace Amorim with a manger who demands even more running, pace and athleticism. I’m not a big fan of 3 at the back but we were shit with a back 4 as well.

If he continues to play 5 defensive players at Old Trafford while not caring about attacking, I would rather move on from him. His record is a disgrace. He probably deserves a preseason but I think most other clubs don't tolerate this record.

5 defensive players and we still can’t stop team scoring. Do you blame him right now? He’s had to come in and go straight into damage limitation mode.

The problem with Amorin is really a problem with the clubs planning. Allowing Ten Hag to start the season and buying more players to fit his vision was utterly absurd. We now have a squad entirely unsuited to the style Amorin wants to play, and that will mean having to spend 3-400 million to give him the players he needs for a style that might not even work in the PL.

Ineos are inept.

Ye it’s called rebuilding. That’s exactly what I suggest. We’ve been through managers and is hasn’t worked. People moaned when ETH changed his style, he shouldn’t need to. He’s not even had a transfer window where they’ve spent for him yet. And as for the formation not working, yes because 4-2-3-1 clearly worked under ETH where we was conceded over 20 shots every game and getting leathered 7-0 of our rivals. And explain how we was lucky to beat city? Game of 2 half, they edged the first and we completed controlled the 2nd half.
How many rebuilds do we need? Liverpool are about to match our league title amount and likely increase it before we resemble a title challenging team. We may as well kept ETH of carrying on with these results and performances- 4 defeats in 5 games at OT now incidentally.

4231 could work if not setup gung ho like ETH did. We don't have the players he needs to play this system. It isn't rocket science. We have 5 defenders and arguably 2 holding midfielders and yet still conceded garbage goals that are preventable.

I'm not suggesting sacking him but he needs to at least understand that it ain't working.

I consider a late last gasp winner to be fairly lucky.

Evidently they do.
They quite obviously don't, unless you feel a midfield of Wilson, Iwobi and Smith Rowe is better than ours?!

It's a prime example of a system and tactics working well with the players available to the manager, couple that with work rate and desire and your near enough there. None of which applies to United currently

I get sick and tired of people making excuses for managers. He's come to Utd because he's been tasked with the job of coaching these players to get results, simple as that. Whilst this might not be a great Manchester Untied team, there are still many internationals on the pitch who look a lot better for their country than they do at Utd. How is that, how are these players still good enough for their coubtry but at the same time everyone is saying the players are all terrible?

A managers job is to get the best out of the players, to set them up with the best chance of getting a result. Right now it looks from an outsider, that Amorim is a rookie coach, still trying to grasp what the PL is about, whilst simultaneously trying to implement a formation that the players are obviously not trusting. It's a recipe for disaster and it's proving so with performances and results. I wasn't expecting miracles and an unbeaten run, but I did expect far better than what's been served up to now.

We've been here too many times before where the manager is too stubborn and thinks todays the day things turn around, but they never ever do. If we're waiting until he gets his perfect squad, we'll wait an enternity because it isn't happening. So we must get someone in who knows the PL, is proven at a big club and go again.

...

We're 100% going to drop more points against weaker teams. Let's see if the fanbase can remember performances like these and the context of our season, and keep calm unlike after outplaying City.

...

We're still a very inconsistent team so we'll inevitably drop more points (which Amorim pointed out straight away). Let's see if the fans who were losing their minds prior to the Liverpool game remember games like this and realise that, despite losing every now and then, we are making obvious progress that will be even more recognisable after Amorim gets some better players in and a preseason.
Yeah, as expected

This is on him. Brighton were controlling the midfield for long period of time and he did nothing to change that. Everyone can see their goals are coming. We are not compact today and so easy to penetrate from the wings. Maz was awful and couldn't deal with Mitoma. Thought Yoro was invinsible as well. Don't know why he didn't sub Yoro with Eriksen when we are chasing for goals. What's the risk anyway?
