Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

It’s starting to be a cause for concern that he’s not able to get them playing to a half decent level consistently. We know we need some new players but we can’t change the whole squad. He needs to get them playing better or he’s going to get sacked.

This is bollocks. We are not expected to lose to Bournemouth, wolves, Forrest, spurs, Brighton and scrape past Southampton "regardless of what he does". Such performances are very much avoidable.

Regardless of what he does, we are finishing mid-table this season. Maybe slightly better mid-table, maybe slightly worse mid-table, but still mid-table.

The teams we lose to or beat along the way are irrelevant, as are whether we were expected to do so. There are no substantial stakes left in this league campaign either way.

So the idea of now abandoning his approach for pragmatic short term gain is nonsensical. There's nothing important to gain other than a few one off results that in the long term won't matter.

He’s fine, he doesn’t sugarcoat our performances and our level because he’s afraid of losing his job.

He knows we are shit, he knows most of our players aren’t up to it and he knows it’s going to take a lot of work to sort out it.

The issue imo is that he has not developed any attacking systems. All our goals come by chance. If you can’t get anything done in playing matches every three days,

DO BETTER IN VIDEO ANALYSIS.

Use VR, do hybrid sessions, quiz them, work with game designers and make a pitch with different scenarios etc.

Do we really need him to do that? What more is there to expose?
People were talking about the gap to CL spaces when he came in.. It was in this thread I'm pretty sure, which shows the delusion. I don't think most of the fanbase appreciate quite how screwed we are, no where close.

This formation with these players is awful to watch. At least with Ten Hag's kamikaze football, we would have some exciting counter attacks every game.

Didnt expect anything from today.

We’ve been routinely getting turned over by well organised modern tactical sides like brighton quite regularly for a few years now.

The upturn in form for Liverpool and Arsenal was because the players wanted to raise their game.

As soon as we play any ‘smaller’ sides they expect to just turn up and win. We didnt deserve anything against southampton midweek but were bailed put by a couple of individual moments by Diallo and one outstanding assist from Eriksen.

There has been for a while and still is a huge mentality issue with a lot of our players, more so than technical in my opinion.

Until we have players with a mentality that every game is like a cup final we will never have the consistency to win strings of game.

Theres teams like Forest and Brighton who have a good system and decent players who I wouldnt say are markedly better than us man for man but you watch them give it everything every week. Thats the difference. Until that is solved it really doesnt matter too much who the manager is or what formation we play.

That said, results are going to catch up on Amorim very quickly at this rate - he hasnt even had a new manager bounce.

People can't accept this situation is fecked. We really might have to sell our better players to bounce back.
I'm more concerned some of our better players look worse under Amorim. Even the "generational" talents like Yorro are being put in somewhat awkward positions.

Our approach has been different when playing against the top sides, but when we're expected to take the game to the opposition, we struggle. Has Amorim, both today and against Southampton, fielded a team capable of playing on the front foot and providing creativity? I don't think he has. Neither Dalot nor Mazraoui should be starting as wing-backs at home, and Ugarte and Mainoo shouldn’t be paired together, as they simply don’t offer enough in terms of creating chances.

Now, I’m not saying Amorim should be replaced, but I did question the defensive setup before the match, and the fact that we've scored only one goal, and that from a penalty, makes me feel like my concerns were justified.

Who would you play instead of the players you listed?

Can't see how he survives us getting relegated. Don't understand INEOS bringing in a manager that uses wingbacks when we have 0 wingbacks in the squad.

Just dreadful planning, and dreadful all over.

No one is expecting a miracle. Better performances and being higher than 13th is a pretty low bar to meet.
I agree 100% But Ineos should back him in this window. Look how city are treating Peps issues this season. Why force him to start mid season if he wasn't going to be backed, it's confusing to me.

You're not making any sense. He could have navigated my listed games better and we wouldn't have been mid table. The gap between us and say, top 7 wasn't unattainable. We were quite close and there was 18-20ish games left of the season.

You're talking like nothing matters and he couldnt have done anything. That is completely false.

We don't have any generational talents. We have a few good young players who are massively overhyped

He has had enough time now to know the limits of this squad, he should be able to throw a team together to beat teams like Brighton at home.

He still has time but looks like he hasn't a clue how to fix this with the current squad of crap.
Need to drop the sense of entitlement there, Brighton have better players than Utd in almost every position. You said it yourself, the squad is crap, so how is he to ‘throw a team together’ to beat them?

The system is not the issue. It is the players. Where is the effort and performance from the big games against the 'smaller' teams. We still make too many dumb mistakes.

Feel bad for him, saddled with shite players from the previous two managers and no money at all to go and get new ones.

He will be fired long before he every gets the chance to build a squad so we will never get a chance to know if he should have been good enough.

Id say he can't really be fully judged until we get him a Goalkeeper, RWB, LWB, one CB, one Midfielder and a striker.

That will take us until at least the summer of 2026 to acquire so basically we are fecked because he won't be keeping his job that long imo

Yep we are not an academy team were results do not matter. It is stupid expecting a whole team to learn a new system that they are not capable to play in and compete in the premier league. That only happens in video games. Wrong appointment in Ten hag and same with Amorim.

The club have employed him knowing this is the style he is going to use.
Either sack him or back him, there’s no point in forcing him to change his entire style of play just to pick up a few extras points here and there like Ten Hag did.

Anyone find back 3 is awful for build ups from the back? we literally are like playing like 10 men since if we have 3 CBs at the back during possession, we have one less player as option passing forward.

It is a wastage of space on the field when we have so many players clustered at the back during build ups.

He’s fine, he doesn’t sugarcoat our performances and our level because he’s afraid of losing his job.

He knows we are shit, he knows most of our players aren’t up to it and he knows it’s going to take a lot of work to sort out it.
100% this. Its a huge task. Will he survive it? Not sure now.

Is he the right guy? I think he is. But results might not help him.

It was too big of an ask to change the system mid season with an already faltering side. He was hired knowing that this is how he plays though so how much blame can he take?

I'd like to move to a more familiar 4231/433 until the summer but that's not he way.

What is the point of playing the system if you haven’t got the players for it?!

And having one way of playing is ridiculous.

Brighton haven’t played 442 all season. They changed it to suit the weaknesses of how they knew we would set up. Tactically flexible.

Every team knows exactly how we are gonna set up, so we are so easy to plan for.

Zero control in the midfield just Ten Hag.

Not enough bodies in the midfield. Backline way too deep. He's making the same mistakes.

The system seems to work against the biggest sides but that's not how you progress.

Progress comes from clean sheets, winning at home and brushing aside weaker teams.

We do none of that. We are a plucky cup team.

Nah, you need to accept that these players are not very good. Every PL team has international players.
They are better than 13th position, of that there is no doubt.
Unless you feel Brentford and Fulham have better players than us for example??

He was meant to come in and improve us from last season. There isn’t going to be a massive window because we are hamstrung by PSR. He will be working with the majority of these players going forward.
Yup and the idea as to why he is sticking to his formation/system is to get the players used to it. Why bother if the squad needs to be gutted? play to our strengths instead.

If he continues to play 5 defensive players at Old Trafford while not caring about attacking, I would rather move on from him. His record is a disgrace. He probably deserves a preseason but I think most other clubs don't tolerate this record.

Yeah that's the thing. People are still treating us losing to Brighton as some unacceptable result but they are clearly more well drilled in their own system, more athletic, and far more dangerous in the final third. It's not rocket science why we look second best.

And that applies to a lot of the supposedly lesser teams, we have a collection of players that just aren’t suited to this league. I’m sure a lot of our players would do well in Serie A but in the PL they don’t have to pace and athleticism nor the technique to overcome it (Mainoo being a good example).

I’ve seen lots of fans now calling for the Bournemouth manager but his brand of football require even more athleticism than Amorim’s.

He's finished here. Needs to get himself out of this shit show in the summer and get back to a better club. Take the pay hit if necessary.

We are a black hole for careers both players and managers

He is a brave man sticking to his guns. It’s a very difficult situation now.

If he changes things he will look a lot weaker. But as it is we are going to lose most times and will likely finish 15th or so.

We have to stick with him but it’s a rotten situation

It'd be a fatal mistake if he decides to abandon his philosophy now to chase points. Ten Hag did and he has been unemployed for months now, even though terrible recruitment did him in as well, which he was partly responsible for.

Enough accomodating players incapable of playing anything else. Work through it for the sake of those that fit in and ditch those that don't. At this point, this club doesn't even belong in the Conference League, so it's pointless to ditch everything just to get a chance to be dumped out of it next season. The club is safe from relegation, so putting everything on hold just to chase some useless points on the table will be detrimental in the long run. Take the L and deal with it.

Everything will require impeccable recruitment however, and it entirely remains to be seen if these "best in class" INEOS people can do it. If they can't hack it, then everything else is futile anyway and it doesn't matter who is coach. Stick by him.

There's plenty to write off as not down to Amorim.

But this insistence on not playing Diallo in his best position, and instead playing Mazraoui there where he has consistently shown himself to be a liability there..... I just don't get it.
