Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

I mean it seems obvious to me that it was some Saudi club.

West Ham probably tried to get him last season, but I believe Ruben Amorim only took that interview to try to force Liverpool to hire him.
I'm 100% sure he'd be Liverpool's coach this season if Liverpool would have chosing him. They didn't, so he isn't.
Yeah it looks like we are paying him €6-6.5m per season which means only Saudi is crazy enough to offer him €18m a year.

Let us all be mindful of where we are at the moment as a team, our issues just don't die all of a sudden with the sacking of ten hag.

I just hope he has enough about him to improve on what we are good at and fix some of our deficiencies.

We cannot keep going through managers and at some point I hope Ineos have the bottle to move on certain big names from the playing squad.

Rashford in particular needs to shape up or ship out.

Please make me fall in love with Manchester United football again, lord knows we have suffered this past decade.

He says that there were 2 clubs that paid his 10 million clause in the recent past but he opted to stay. One club offered 3 times more than what United offered him now.

Manchester United knock is a different kind of knock. Everyone should be able to appreciate/understand this. Especially in the situation that United is currently in - even Ten Hag spoke about this - it’s a sleeping giant, if you manage to wake United up you’re auto inducted in football hall of fame. For anyone that’s ambitious - it’s too enticing a challenge.

66 goals in 65 games for him now?

Fitting Amorim last game as Sporting manager is against Braga who he played for.
Interesting tidbit I learned recently was that although he was on the job at Braga for 3 months, he made such an impression that Sporting were willing to cough up 10m Euros to another league side to hire him.

That's the 4th largest fee for a manager ever in Europe and quite the expensive gamble in the Portuguese league, ended up being some of the bets 10m they've ever spent fairs to them.

City are not offering Amorim £20m or whatever. And obviously neither would Liverpool. It will have been an offer from Saudi

Great stuff from Berrada, no messing around. The last thing I would have wanted us to do was throw the season away. It’s so early and there is so much to play for. Getting Ruben in now, is what’s best.

In the past we would have probably left Ruud in charge, had a bounce and hire him permanently.

Them days are gone and long may it continue.

West Ham probably tried to get him last season, but I believe Ruben Amorim only took that interview to try to force Liverpool to hire him, but they went with Arne Slot.
I'm 100% sure he'd be Liverpool's coach this season if Liverpool would have chosen him. They didn't, so he isn't.

It was reported by multiple sources that he agreed a deal with Liverpool but it fell through due to Sportings compensation demands

Oof. What a set of quotes by him. Love the way he candidly talks, no bullshit. Surely means he rejected Liverpool too and that Utd are the club he’s had his eye on the whole time.

This is also a clear indication we ain’t writing off this season. We didn’t want to have an interim for the rest of the season. Good job INEOS. This is the way to run a football club.

Also City low key fecked up. If they announced Pep was leaving in May 2025, there is a chance Ruben could have said no to us, cause we did take a risk in issuing an ultimatum, and maybe followed his DOF to City.

Liverpool and city would have been in the same bracket as us with paying the 10m or whatever it was wouldn’t they? There was like 6 teams mentioned who’d only have to pay what we did, Madrid was one. The top teams could get him cheaper than everyone els

Who else could pay three times more than we are? Because it's not Liverpool and West Ham.

This is a mistranslation. There was news that Amorim would earn with Man Utd 3x what he earned with Sporting. Amorim said that other clubs tried to sign him before and he would earn 3x what he earns now (with Sporting, not Man Utd), so the move to Man Utd is not because of the money: if money was the reason, he would have left before because he received a similar offer before.

Not to say they would have chosen him but I recall reading that Liverpool didn't continue their pursuit due to his high release clause. I think it was circa €20m in the summer before he signed a new contract.

City would have probably been in the same boat as Liverpool. Where there unsure whether they should go down the 3 at the back route. We’re obviously not that bothered but city now could do with someone that can follow on from peps 4-3-3 since they have the players and they know the system.

Doesn't mean they paid the same clause though.

No European club is offering Amorim £20m a year wages except a Saudi team or similar.

Why wouldn't City?

Because they're obviously not going to offer someone who has 2 Portugal titles to his name the same money they're currently paying Pep Guardiola who's 'won' 12 league titles across 3 leagues. Also Pep is still there.

I’m getting more excited by the day with him. Love that he is a great communicator and doesn’t try to be coy with the media. He will earn the players respect on day 1 with his clear and concise instructions.

Great news!
Feel this time could be different. He has the Fergie vibes, taking a team and breaking the duopoly in the Scottish league. Also the fact he has a football based system behind him, instead of a load of bankers, from the get go.
He still has plenty of games left this season and we are still in all the competitions we can be in.
Good luck Ruben!

I don’t think that would have been a condition for City. They don’t really have a history of playing with 4 at the back per se. Their main aim would be continuity of dominance and Amorim was tailor made for that. He definitely would have had the players for that.

Obviously his week here with Jose sold United to him and he's been working towards this moment ever since. :)

Just watched the press conference, I read the translations here, but wanted to check for myself and he was pretty assertive - "and the truth is I didn't want another club, after Sporting, this is the club I wanted - in this context (circumstances), a lot of people speak about the context, but this is what I wanted - because it allows me to do things my way - and the club believes in me. It's similar to Sporting (context when he took over)"

Nope. Just heard the English translation of the presser. He confirmed a club offered three times what United were paying.

I'm so glad we didn't go down the interim route again. It's just wasting valuable time and sends the wrong message to the players.

He will definitely need time since I don't really rate your squad. Needs an overhaul with Amorim influence.

He isn't perfect. For all the praise for what he achieved with us, there's also some low points. For example, before we won the league last season, the previous year we came 4th, which in Portugal is a fireable offense. But he had the trust of the board, overcame the bad phase and the rest is history.

He needs time and patience. I don't know if he has that with the bipolarism of United fans. Also United board doesn't seem as professional, with long term vision and strict objectives as Sporting board. The way they handled the Ten Hag affair last year show that. It's more of immediatism and going with the flow.

Time will tell.
Tbf, our fans are somewhat annoyingly patient. I don’t see patience being an issue here.

I heard the press conference live and I know what I heard.

Just seen that couple of his assistant coaches are like 28 and 29-year olds. Imagine if we have another case of McKenna here where the players won't listen to them.
