Roy Keane

Sorry but that’s just objectively wrong.

They had 34 shots to our six, eight on target with one for us, 69 percent ball-possession, and 12 corners to our zero. An xG of 2.3 to our 0.6.

It was a positive performance from us but Liverpool absolutely deserved to win.
A big fallacy with XG is if you take loads of potshots out of a lack of creativity, the small XG from each of them accumulates to a good score. Whereas if you consider the best chances of the game, the top two fell to us

While slightly over the top, what Van Dijk said was largely true. Invoking the past, which has little relevance in terms of today’s game, in order to put down Van Dijk and Liverpool seems a bit small-time.
And bitching about the opponents being defensive and buzzing after you couldn’t get the result you wanted didn’t small time? It’s pathetic that they need to deflect rather than facing their own shortfalls or accepting the result.

How can you deserve to win a game where you have over 30 shots and fail to score?

Yeah I don’t think Liverpool had chances better than those Garnacho and Hojlund got? Maybe a couple of headers if they were easy!? Salah kept taking shots from distance which were never going in.

I'm surprised there's some United fans that didn't appreciate what Keane said. I've only read it on here and I was smiling. I now need to see the clip so you get the bonus of hearing him say it himself with his lovely Irish accent.

You need to watch the VVD clip as well for maximum enjoyment. Still can’t believe how much of a cnut he came across as. Glad he got called out on it.

The idea we weren’t ever trying to win and would be buzzing with a point is total bullshit. The fact people are defending VVD over Keane sums up this fecking place.
And especially when you consider the 2nd half where we were surprisingly fired up and aggressive in getting forward.

I think their best chances was the Konate moment and probably the VVD one. But that was when they were surrounded by United players and unable to do anything bar shoot down the middle of the goal.

Beautiful from Keano. He can slag us off but if someone else does he'll step in.

No they didn't. Your just rewarding quantity of shots regardless of quality (all shite by the way) and muddling increased possession. The draw was the deserved result.

Why does a team with a better xG ‘deserve’ to win? I’d love to know. They didn’t take any of their chances and most of them shots seemed to be pot shots from range. It’s not even as though they played exquisite football or anything.
No, Liverpool weren’t very good, I didn’t say they were. First half was still 45 minutes of powerplay with us approaching the game like a bottom-table team, and so I can see why VVD, in the heat of the moment with frustrations running high, could accuse us of playing for a draw. Which I frankly think is correct.

If this is the level of discussion you want, I’m out.
Well stats mean feck all, Liverpool huffed and puffed, and as has already been said, they created very little, indeed much of what they did create was down to United's poor passing rather than good play, the only real clear cut chance either side created was the Hojlund one, Onana made a few saves but ones that you wouold expect any PL keeper to make

Exactly. Also I’m very curious as to how one determines who ‘deserves’ a win. Liverpool faced a decimated in crises United who started the game like a mess and seemingly there for the taking. 34 shots later it finished 0-0 with lots of long range despite attempts by Liverpool and a couple of big scares. Yet they apparently deserved to win? For what?

Arrogant as though they’re the dominant force and not 4 years since a league title playing in the Europa.
Not to mention that we've actually won a trophy more recently than them.

Ah you can see why VVD made a stupid statement but not why Keane puts him in his place. Interesting.

Well didn’t play for a draw. Also how do you play for a draw?

It was hilariously small time from VVD. Should be looking at the pile of shit performance in players like Szoboszlai and Nunez before pointing to us. Roy Keane had him spot on there.

I mean you’ve literally no idea. As I say you didn’t watch the game.
Yes, I did, who the feck do you think you are to tell me otherwise? Of course I wouldn’t comment on the balance of a game I didn’t watch.

Based on your comments the only logical explanation I could find was you hadn’t watched the game. That’s why I didn’t think you had.

United had the best chance in the game. And their 34 shots weren't exactly decent chances. They were completely nullified.

Salah also kept having a go from longe range because he couldn’t beat Shaw

Take the xG horseshit out of the equation, pretend it didn’t exist, would you still say that the dippers deserved to win?

You have multiple more stats for that from the initial quote "34 shots to 8" "12 corners to 0" and "possession" :)

van dijk is always an absolute tool, and he was fuming at united and having a petty shot at them. I swear, this forum sometimes feels like an outlet for people who support united but hate supporting them. Keane is 100% correct

Well done for calling out the VVD arrogance, Keano! Spot on. Doesn’t always talk fondly of us, as we’ve been well below par for a long time, but great to see him stand up for United then.

So he was being arrogant then
Sure he was, he was obviously trying to be provocative. I still think what he said was largely true. We started the game with a very defensive mindset and I think it’s reasonable to assume we came for a point (and obviously hoped for a win), and then grew in confidence during a very decent second-half. Anyway, didn’t expect it to be a popular viewpoint and we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Absolutely no one is denying this though.

He’s just another faux scouser who panders to their fans and pretends to be one of them. And the idiots lap it up and ask for seconds.

Personally wouldn’t say he ‘doesn’t speak fondly of us’.

I’d say instead he is honest about the current state of play at the club and his feelings towards how he was treated.
