Round of 16 | Switzerland vs Italy | Germany vs Denmark

Still surprises me that once Xhaka actually started to get good, Arsenal let him go

I've seen some people on Twitter say they should've let Partey go and retained Xhaka for another season, and I think they're absolutely spot on. Would've been great with Rice as well.

I’d rather we played this Italian team than Switzerland. Their nothing special

I was going to post how I genuinely feel sorry for Switzerland, because they play some good football, but struggle to make it count, because of their weak forwards. But luckily I took another sip of my drink before hitting the post button.

Watch Italy look completely different when they need a goal. They'll start making good decisions and their players will look like actual footballers

Let's see if Italy can clean the shite from their underpants and start playing.

the way Italy are playing reminds me of how we were most of last season

Spain stole our souls. Every single little stone we'd managed to add to our foundation, every scrap of confidence and belief, they disintegrated through 10 minutes of Nico Williams runs at Di Lorenzo :nervous:

We're broken

Silly Switzerland. Sitting on 1-0 for no reason. Plenty of goals in it for them if they just continue to play as they were.

Are Italy the new England? Best (performing) league in Europe, yet this NT.

I think Switzerland would fancy their chances against England.

Not scared by Suisse. Half of their players play in Serie A, I know their value and they are not that good..

In a combined XI Italy would be present with almost all their players:

Donnarumma > Sommer
Di Lorenzo > Stergiou
Mancini < Akanji
Bastoni > Rodriguez
Darmian > Schar
Barella > Xhaka
Cristante < Freuler
Fagioli > Aebischer
El Shaarawy > Rieder
Chiesa > Ndoye
Scamacca > Embolo

+ we have Spalletti who is a top coach.

I expect to win honestly.

Fate is tempted by option B) it seems!

Mad to think that around 98-2000 Italy could choose from Baggio, Zola, Del Piero, Totti, Inzaghi, Vieri, Signori, Montella, Chiesa up front with great depth in midfield and defense to back that up and this is what they are now.

Especially given there were multiple other countries around with equally stacked squads.

Who retired after 2021 that caused this drop off? Chiellini? Surely a few others?

What happened to spalletti possession based attacking style he used at Napoli? Italy have been dreadful all tournament

Kind of insane that neither of the CMs picked up the run. You could see this goal coming 5 seconds before it happened.

Talking about the regular starters in that Euro:

Chiellini retired
Bonucci retired this year
Verratti and Insigne decided to play in two retirement leagues
Jorginho and Immobile have dropped off a lot as well
Spinazzola always injuried.

Italy are unbelievably easy to play through
