Round of 16 | England vs Slovakia | Spain vs Georgia

As bad as England were in the group stage, it didn’t expect this performance so far today.

Trippier is so past it. And horrid on the left.

Honestly England's only chance here is to push Saka to left back given Southgate refused to bring any left back in.

Only thing worse than Southgate persisting with that front 4 is him persisting with those two fullbacks. They've been a trainwreck and he's not bothered to adjust it

Slovakia don't look like they can hold it to the end. Palmer will be the answer.

But England are unbelievably lucky to be in that track.

Mainoo started well but he’s gone into his shell. Not taking responsibility.
Untrue, you can only take responsibility if people pass the ball to you.

See what he actually did when he got on the ball. The defence are not passing into midfield, and everyone's trying long ball's straight into the forwards. They've very rarely actually used the midfield

Same issue all tournament, no threat from the left because Foden want to play central and Trippier with right footed. Bellingham and Kane wanting the same space.

It’s so obvious we need a proper left winger on the pitch. Southgate even took off Saka in the last game before looking at the left wing. Why is he so blind sided by the issue?

Rice looks a shell of himself, how the hell did Arsenal do so well this season when he looks so poor on the ball.

Not only should he be sacked for doing exactly what people said he would do when everyone knew it wouldn't work. I'm also gonna ask HRH to execute him.

Mainoo has played well, but England dont always play through him and when they havent its the same old slow, too many touches and too slow to pass the ball

If you're going to play Walker and Trippier as your fullbacks, Trippier should play on the right because he has good delivery. Walker offers nothing going forward and defensively he's just pace which he can do from leftback. Like every other game the left flank is non existant

Scenes in here when Gareth subs Mainoo off for his trusted general, Gallagher

As I'd suspected.. the irony about this Slovak team is to that England would stand a better chance winning if they play adventurously down the wing but alas Southgate being Southgate may end up paying the price if he doesn't switch things up, especially with IFs.

The booking and this ref is the only reason I might take him off.

Southgate wont make any changes at halftime though.
I'd actually hope he's taken off. Can already see him getting sent off and he's the new scapegoat.

He made himself available so many times in the first 15-20 mins and the back 4 plus Foden and Saka just kept ignoring him. He seemed to lose enthusiasm for it after that for a while but brightened up again in the last 5 minutes of the half.

Critique of him in that half should be on how easy England were to get at before the goal, wasn't effective defensively.

However if Slovakia continue to sit back his cleverness on the ball vastly outweighs any current weaker areas of his game.

Too many players are hiding. Like they're terrified of making a mistake or looking bad on an Instagram or YouTube reel, so they end up doing nothing instead.

When we manage to get Mainoo on the ball things happen, there’s just no movement in behind whatsoever and everything that actually goes wide seems to come back inside anyway.

Also, this ref loves a first yellow? Mainoo was ridiculous.

Slovakia have not done much positive since the goal. England can more than win this, they have the quality and they have been creating some chances.

Trippier's set piece swinging cross always look venomous. WTH Foden start taking the corner.

UKIP should hire Southgate. You lot would've been out of the Europe decades ago.

So easy to play against a team that can't play on both sides of the pitch. Playing Foden and Trippier in every game is woeful management.

Talk to people too.

The bubbles you live in never tell the full story.
It's absolutely everywhere mate. The pub, social media, redcafe. Southgate has feck all vocal defenders relative to the current mood which is overwhelmingly anti him. And with very obviously good reason.

Who will say "nowhere near good enough" first? I'm betting Keane.

Southgate might be a problem, but he’s not the only problem. Our players look better for their clubs because of who they play with. It’s a team game.

Mainoo has been our best player anyway.

The English FA are the disgrace, allowing Southgate to manage after losing the last Euros wasting this team and what could've been.

England lacks the killer pass. Foden, Saka, Kane, have all been mediocre to bad.

He's trying to be very expansive with it sometimes. Is he like this for Arsenal? He looked better on the ball than this whenever I managed to catch them play
For arsenal the other players do most the work giving him space and time, in reality he's crap without it. His passing is not good enough, and it sticks out so much.
