Ross Barkley | Stays at Everton

I'd suggest Conté is why these players have doubts. He doesn't seem like a stable guy and I'm not sure I'd fancy working under him if I could work under Poch or even Klopp.

Chelsea never usually have a problem getting signings done.

Sounds like Daniel Levy has been up to old tricks. Maybe Pochettino has given him a guarantee of first team football in his favoured position in January and maybe Chelsea wouldn't offer that

They're idiots then. Poch especially has achieved feck all so far, while Conte has won 3 in a row at Juventus then took a massive shit over the PL pretenders last season.

This sounds like something that would have happened during that Moyes era deadline day. What a horrible night that was.

Players generally love working under strong personalities like Conte. I can't think of any players (bar Diego Costa who is much more mental than Conte) who have had issues with him.

Too true only it would have been Moyes changing his mind about the player half way through the medical and not the players changing their mind.

He'd lost the faith of the blue half of Liverpool. This decision not only earns it back, it also earns him a shit load of money in the long run.

A win-win for him and his agent. Clever bit of business by the lad.

He's just lost out on any chance of playing his way into a starting place at the World Cup anyway.

I'm sure the massive signing on fee he'll get when he signs for someone on a free will cushion that blow though.

He'll get a lot more first-team football at Everton. At Chelsea, he'd be competing a lot more players with a lot more quality. If anything, he's got a better chance of getting into the England team.

By the sounds of it he can't play till around Christmas anyway because of this injury so what's the big deal about waiting till January?

If Barkley can't handle Koeman's demands then Conte would be hell for him. Similar to when Gerrard referred to Benitez as someone who treats his players like chess pieces whereas a personality like Barkley needs / wants a more personable mentor. It doesn't mean one way is better than the other - the best period of Gerrard's career was under Benitez......but some players maybe simply just want to enjoy their football first and foremost and other things are secondary in their thinking.

Regardless of his reasons anyway - it's a bit bizarre behaviour-wise to go to a medical and then change your mind.

Maybe I'm just fecking lazy but I couldn't be bothered making a 180 at that stage.

*Half way through my medical with Burton Albion and starting to have doubts* "Feck it, I'm here now, let's get it done..."

PSV spokesman Pedro Salazar-Hewitt claimed van Nistelrooy was opposed to United's extra fitness checks because he feared they might jeopardise his recovery.

"They are some conditions which have been requested by the United medical staff and he doesn't agree with them from his own principles because they are going to put in danger his rehabilitation," he said.

"Ruud van Nistelrooy still wants to play for Manchester United and it's not that there's any change in his feelings towards the club, the manager - Mr Ferguson - the chairman or anybody there.

"It's just about the medical difference of opinion. That's why we are at this impasse."

This collapsed deal reminds me of RvN in 2000.

Barkley is injured and perhaps didn't want to submit to the more strenuous tests that Chelsea were demanding.

I wonder how many times a high profile transfer like this has not happened for this very same reason?

I'd imagine that Barkley still wants to go to Spurs and has been quietly told to hang on 'til January. He's won't be fit to play until much before then any.

Everton have played this badly - they won't get £35m for him in the winter, not when he's on a free just 5 months later. Off to Spurs for maybe £15m in the winter is my guess.
Yeah, will probably arrive together with Jadon Sancho;););)

Well, you can't win 'em all. For what it's worth a respected ITK at Blue Moon also thought it was a done deal.

Just doing damage control for Chelsea. Law is Chelsea's media spin man. Can't at all buy that he got to the point of a medical and then it was decided "hey let's just do this in January" and why the hell would Chelsea do it in January when they could wait 6 more months and get him in on a free.

WIll be interested to see how the Everton fans react to this, especially if he does not sign and runs his contract down.

Football fans in general don't seem to be able to grasp the fact that, like most people in the world, he's free to choose where he wants to work.

Absolutely.

Because they can sign him to a precontract with a fat signing on bonus that's significantly less than the transfer fee they'd have paid to Everton. Barkley makes a lot more, Chelsea spend less, the only one who misses out is Everton.

Sounds plausible.

He's most certainly not free to choose where he works, at least not until next season.

Well along with Oxelade-Chamberlin and Diego Costa, Barkley has chosen not to work for Chelsea anyway.

This is hilarious. What on earth is wrong with this guy? Absolute time waster.

He obviously feels it would be better for his career to play at a club that is not Chelsea. Looks very likely somebody had a word in his ear about a likely move in January to a club he really wants.
