Rooney - Wants to stay next season

Can't wait for the Rooney - Perisic - Morata attacking trio next season. The opposition will shit their pants even before the game starts.

@Random Task I always thought he would likely be struggling to justify his wages by the end of his contract, given the length of it and his age. I just thought he would give us enough service for the first 3 or 4 years of it that by the final one or two we wouldnt begrudge him being a bit past it. I guess I thought the final year of his contract would be a bit like last year, where he was phased out, or the year before, where he played but wasnt very good. What I didnt expect was that from a 5 year contract we would get one decent year, and even that was only decent, not outstanding. He was the best of a bad bunch in that first year.

None of us did if we're being honest.

How did you feel about the contract he was offered? After Fergie's claims in the press that Rooney had requested a transfer (a claim I believed implicity considering the source) I had accepted his departure as a given and it was simply a matter of who he decided to join out of Chelsea and City. So when I discovered that Rooney had signed a new contract, declaring his intent to see us through the inevitable transitional period post Fergie (at least in my eyes), I was literally over the moon. Cared not for the outrageous wage he was to be paid on a weekly basis, only cared that Wayne Rooney was to remain a United player and the good times were set to continue for the forseeable future. It's safe to assume that Moyes felt the same way, which would explain to some extent why he would cave in to his demands, such was Rooney's influence at the club around that period.

Wouldn't describe it as over the moon, but happy and, especially, relieved, I think would best describe it. Was very worried with SAF leaving and Moyes coming in. And never expected Fabregas or any of those high profile targets to come that summer. Was worried if Rooney left we'd have a really chaotic year - which we did anyway, in the end. The fact is the club was in a corner, very, very difficult situation for Woodward to deal with on his first months in charge.

He does have to say that.

If Rooney decides to leave of his own accord to find game time then he won't be entitled to his "loyalty bonus". If Mourinho is quoted in the press saying anything like "We have no room for him here" or "He is not in my plans" then Rooney can use that as proof he was encouraged to leave and can claim a portion of his contract. Rooney knows that he is not in Mourinho's plans for next season, at best he might get 10 starts if we have an injury crisis so it's in his best interest to find another club. Mourinho is just ensuring that the club don't have to subsidise that.

Well not really mate, as i said he could be diplomatic whenever he was asked a question about Rooney's future and just say Rooney has a contract and it's up to him etc. (he has said similar to be fair).

But he doesn't really have to go the extra mile and say stuff like he can be an important player next season and that he would be very happy if he stayed next year.

He held us to ransom by demanding a fat contract when we were in a weak moment with a cr#p manager. I say leave him out of the squad altogether. If he wants to play football again, he'll have to quit.

Did he?

I thought he wanted to leave but the club didn't want to sell him so offered him a new contract, and convinced him to stay on the same basic salary.

I hope he has played his last game for United, regardless of whether he is still at the club when the transfer window closes.

Leaving him out of the summer tour might be a wise move if he is seriously considering staying.

karaoke can make you unfit again?

It's not just the karaoke, he should be focussing on his fitness!

Anyhow, according to Mirror no clubs have made a bid for him so it looks like we are stuck with him.

Everest.Cockblock.Contract.Termination.--->Exit

When people question whether there'd be club willing to pay him 120k a week, then it's absolutely unsurprising that there are no bids at all.
It'll change only with circumstances.

He shouldn't go out like this, he should just go somewhere that plays decent football and will play him week in week out, somewhere like Bournemouth.

Take a pay cut and go out like he began his career - just going flat out in every game. At a lesser club he could still do that and be appreciated.

I really wish to reread that Rooney massive contract renewal which delighted the uber reds bunch on the caf who bukkake'd everyone with green smilies if they so much as uttered an opposing word to it.

So... were his performances since that contract worth it? Told you he was going downhill and fast.

Is the metro catching up from three week's ago, it honestly wouldn't surprise me. Rooney has been drinking too much red, red wine long enough. I seem to remember him saying ages ago, he'll stay until the club don't want him anymore, he's taking it to a new level.

The Mirror reporting that the club is unwilling to give him a free transfer. I seriously doubt that.

Obviously the mirror but it looks like he's staying if this is to be believed.

Rooney currently earns £300,000 a week at Old Trafford and the Daily Mirror claim he’s still looking for suitors to match those wages if he is to make a move.

If he got an offer of around £75k -£100k he should take it IF he "Just wants to play" :rolleyes:

For his current footballing ability, even a 100k wage would be too high. Only China will match his current wages. Even MLS won't pay that much. If money is what he wants, moving to China is his best option. Staying at United for a year playing a bit-part role will not help him at all. If he thinks he won't be part of the World Cup squad if he moves to China, he should know that it would be the same case if he stays at United also. Moving to a team like Everton for a massive pay-cut would be his only chance to get a berth to Russia. Basically, if he wants to -
Earn money --> China
play --> Everton
sit on his arse the whole year --> United

It really isn't that much of a surprise that clubs don't want him. He's the worst value for money player around. For half his wages here, someone like Everton could get two players of sufficient quality for their ambitions. I was never convinced they'd be able to, or even want to make a deal for Rooney.

The China government tax has screwed us over. That was the only realistic destination for Rooney. Even without that into account, wasn't convinced he'd want to move there anyway. That's the money option, and he already earns more than he can get anywhere else sitting his arse on the bench at United, well close to his family in the northwest.

We're stuck with the guy for the duration of his contract, I think. It's a sad state of affairs that our record goalscorer is staying and sections of our support are groaning at that revelation.

If he seriously expects another club to match those wages then he's thicker than he looks. The greedy tosser is hardly going to starve to death by accepting a lower wage.

I'd be fairly sure United would be willing to make up any shortfall he would 'suffer' in the first 12 months if he did take an offer like that, maybe there just isn't one, or he doubts his ability to make an impact.

I still think he'll go, and I'm sure a lot of the issue is brinkmanship over him wanting his full contract paying up, like I say I could see us paying up part of it, but no way should we be paying it up in full.

I think it's a game of chicken at the minute. The club thinks Rooney will eventually give in and accept he's not going to get his contract paid out and he's not going to want to disgrace himself by pissing about with the u23s for a year either (which itself will impact his chances of getting any worthwhile contract next summer).

Rooney thinks the club will give in and prefer to pay £5-6m loyalty payment than £13m for a reserve player.

The big question for me is what Mourinho will do if he's still here in August and we've brought in all our targets. Will he still have the captaincy? Will he be registered for Europe? The League?

That's when we will see him leave imo.

The greed factor is what urks me most about this whole situation. When you combine his salary, his sponsorship deals, his assets and/or businesses he owns, his net worth must be upwards of £150m (unable to confirm this figure at present). He has more money than a lowly scouse chav could spend in 150 lifetimes. When is enough enough Mr Rooney?

If he can drop £250,000 in an hour in a Casino, I'd suggest he's not particularly good with his money. Even with advisors it's possible he's frittered away large sums on unnecessary stuff.

Didn't he invest millions in a bogus movie production scheme? Possibly just a tax avoidance thing though.

No one wants this has been clown and he doesnt have the hunger to take on a new challenge. Stay and run your contract down wayne thats the best thing for you

people were up in arms about Lingard getting 100k a week, and you would much rather take him over Rooney now

China looks out of the question.
The thing is which English club is going to take the sucker's bet?
All these pundits and ex players keep telling us he's fantastic.
Why aren't clubs queuing up?
I can't see him going this summer.
The earliest is January after he's been stuck in the stands.
He'll be begging to go.

Rooney is struggling to find another club and has not received an offer which comes remotely near his current United salary of up to £300,000-a-week
FFS! How deluded can one be?

So him starting pre season 2 weeks early was an utter waste

How dare he have a bit of fun at his friends wedding during his time off. It's an outrage! It's a scandal.
