Don't understand why he did it, what was he so pissed off about?

We were at home.
We were winning.
The ball was in our own half and it's not like he was through on goal unchallenged.
I know West Ham were having a spell but that happens?

Of course we'll miss him. Rash hothead or not, you'd have to be completely out of your mind to say he offers nothing to our game.

Mata is not a bad replacement to have, however.

I'm happy that we have depth in attacking positions (Mata coming into replace a starter is luxury for sure), but I still think we'll suffer without his hard work on defence. Mata will cover the other areas of Rooney's game (goals, passing, off the ball movement) more than adequately .

Not particularly 'happy', but I'm more than OK with Rooney out. Hopefully Mata will get a chance.

What a stupid and idiotic poll.

Why would any United fan be happy that one of our best players and captain is missing for 3 crucial games? 25% of the voters are either morons or not United fans.

A stupid poll from just another Rooney basher. Yawns.

Go find some evidence to back up your claim I'm a Rooney basher.

I wasn't trying to prove anything with the poll, just interested in what other people's opinions are.

Mine isn't so much about Rooney as it is cramming RVP, Falcao AND Rooney onto the pitch when we have a natural #10 sitting on the bench and no impact striker.

Rooney's been productive in that role but for me, Mata's link up play and passing is hugely important to the fluent possession football we can play and he was a huge catalyst in that QPR game as he dropped into midfield and made things tick. Something I don't think Rooney does in the same way nearly half as well.

We will miss him, but I think our strength in depth up top is so good that it won't be the end of the world.

Be interesting to see if LVG does put Mata in.

And a shame it's just a little bit too late for Kags to come in and tear this League to shreds. :(

I would probably have played him as a striker with RVP, but I'm glad he isn't in the 10 role behind RVP and Falcao and Mata has another chance there

I'm happy Mata will get 3 games on the run in the team but we will miss Rooney. Mata can hopefully lessen the impact of his absence or maybe even perform better than Rooney so far. You never know.

C. As long as United win and (insert name 1) individual steps up I'm not overly bothered with (insert name 2) individual missing out.

Bit of both for me, but happy with it in the grand scheme of things.

He's is a massive bellend, which is fine as long as he keeps it off the field of play, he can't though can he.
Such a good footballer on his day but he's terrible when things don't go his way and as it stands there's a lot of that about.

People saying this poll is down to the Rooney bashers. Is it not true that the people saying that are most likey Rooney fan boys? I think it is a valid question as we have Mata and Januzaj to replace him.

He won't be as much a loss as someone from defence or midfield. Unless he's in your Fantasy team

Why should we be happy if one of our best players is out for three games?

Saw the topic and thought "typical caftards wanting Rooney out of the club after 1 red card"... My mistake...

Anyway, we'll miss him a lot. Although Mata is better in the #10 position, we have enough creativity with Di Maria/Herrera/RvP/Falcao up front. Having Rooney with them added to the creativity but made the team more solid. He gets stuck in and is more often than not one of the closest players to our own net after the other team have broke. Mata does shite all defensively and thats why Mourinho sold him. Although Mata is a fecking great player, in an already unbalanced team, him playing that position instead of Rooney will just add to it.

I don't think our defence plus the type of players we will have up front will allow us to concede few enough to overcome against Everton next week. Hope i'm wrong though.

I am sure our playing style will change a bit with Wayne out, however having Mata in instead is an adequate cover. We will beat Everton, and Mata will play the game of his life against Chavs.

25% of the forum are idiots. Sound about right.

Why should we be happy if one of our best players is out for three games?

Because having a favourite player out on the pitch is more important than trusting the manager to pick the best team from all players available.

A quarter of the forum are just fanboys.

There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with the managers choice of players. I support Van Gaal hugely, I still disagree on his selection from time to time.

Actually wanting one of our players suspended or injured so Van Gaal is forced to not play him is a long way from simply disagreeing with him. It's pigheaded, and shows zero faith in the manager. Players being missing from selection are in no way a good thing for the club. RAWK want our players injured and suspended for months. So you're just putting yourself in the same bracket.

Personally I think it's going to be fascinating to see the dynamic of this team with Mata in Rooney's place.

They are chalk and cheese, ones a brute force power house who charges around tackling and winning the ball back and charges towards goal. The other is a technician who drifts around assuring that we don't lose possession while bringing others into the game and creating space.

After he went off yesterday everyone was looking for him, it's obvious he is central to the way we will play this season. Will be missed despite being a bit of a cock.

So is anyone else glad that he's going to be out for 3 games?

Im geniunely pleased at the prospect if it means Mata is brought into the fold. He's a proper #10 playing in his natural position behind 2 strikers. Cleaner passing, better movement and much better link up which will give the two ahead of him a better chance.

Rooney has done very well as no 10 in the last two games. He's more mobile than Mata in that position. I don't think Mata has a future here tbh, as much as I like the guy, LVG doesn't seem to rate him highly. I hope he takes his chance though.

His loosing of possession cheaply cost us a goal against Leicester last weekend. Keeping possession under pressure hasn't been one of his strengths.

Really? You're actually blaming Mata for that and not Rojo?

So Mata doesn't warrant blame for being weak on the ball? Cambiasso merked him and started the move that led to the goal.

I'm not bothered he won't play against Everton. I always think he underwhelms against them. Would have liked him against Chelsea though.
