Rooney Charged: Faces Two Match Ban for cursing | Appeal lost

I know; it's like pleading not guilty rather than guilty then getting hit with a heavier sentence for not admitting it, as if he's some murderer or paedo...

Exactly, it's a bullying tactic to try and stop anyone questioning their dodgy rulings, in fact this whole respect campaign is a farcical production that is distracting from why the refs cop so much.

Court of arbitration is the best course of action. If we cant get justice from the FA, then we have to resort to court action. A few appeals to the courts could bring those gin slinging pink faced old farts ( Botham's words) in the FA down their high horses.

Dont think the CAS can do much here.

Eduardo got banned for diving in the CL which was a weird decision and there hasnt been consistency from the UEFA since.

These things happen. 2 game ban might be excessive, but I dont think its unfair to the point where the CAS will bother intervening.

Eduardo's was overturned wasn't it?

So, John Cross believes that the FA should stick to a 2 game ban on the basis that if they don't Manchester City will be outraged.

Sums up the ad hoc approach to the events of the last few days for me.

I agree with your sentiments, but who's John Cross?

And who is the chairman of the FA?

David Bernstein?

The former Manchester City board member and chairman was appointed the chairman of the FA at the start of the year. When leaving City he said: “I would like to thank our wonderful fans for their backing. They have been fantastic in their support, which has never wavered even during the most difficult times. I have been touched by their kindness and enthusiasm. I have supported Manchester City since I was a boy and I am desperate for us to succeed.”

We’ve seen just how desperate he is for that today, ensuring that Rooney is banned for the FA Cup semi-final, City’s final hope of silverware this season in their 35th year since they last won a trophy.

And you couldn’t make this up. The man who is so offended by Rooney’s swearing that he felt a two match ban was an appropriate punishment, worked for French Connection before joining City’s board and was behind their controversial range of t-shirts which included: “fcuk this”, “hot as fcuk”, “mile high fcuk”, “fcuk me”, “fcuk her”, “too busy to fcuk”, “fcuk football”, “fcuk fashion”, “fcuk fear” and “fcuk on the beach”.

What?! Fcuking what?

Did he preside on the first meeting that took place on Monday?

I have no idea , but it does not really matter does it , he has a job to do and we expect him to do it in an impartial way no matter who is involved.
I suspect he would of been , but I don't think he has any influence over the appeal panel.
I can see you point though.

Apparently the FA won't release the decision until tomorrow, though United will find it out today and it will be up for us to decide what to do with it. Including telling Rooney before the match or not. I'm half guessing he'll know anyway, as if it's a positive result, there would be no reason not to tell him.

FA apparently ready to rule on him by 10 am tomorrow. Extendend ban unlikely.. What to make of that I don't know, hopefully a suspended ban

FA are announcing the decision by 10am tomorrow but United will know later today so it's possibly they'll release it themselves before the FA.

I read somewhere that it might well be postponed so as to avoid affecting United's preparation for the Chelsea game?!

Not the actual decision, that will be taken tonight, but the timing of its release will be held until tomorrow.

That's what I meant - decision will be finalised tonight, but United won't be informed before tomorrow.

Not sure if that is reliable or not however.

I actually read United WILL be informed today, but it will be up to the club whether to tell Rooney, for instance.

crazy stuff.

I reckon it's been reduced. FA leak initial "no increase" news to soften the blow on the pro-ban people. Now the media are talking about either 1 or 2 game ban.

EDIT: Actually I'm talking bollocks. They could just have easily released the "no increase" news to get our fans feeling grateful or something stupid (see below post)

I'm not on a WUM but I don't know why everybody has gone crazy over Rooney's banning, it's conspiracy theory after another.

I love Wayne, wanted to cry when the man said he was leaving, happy he stayed but...

put it this way, when Drogba was banned who honestly thought a part of it wasn't for swearing directly into a camera?

Alot of people knew this was part of the reason when they were advocating that he should be banned.

I mean kids are exposed to swearing everyday but who wants their kids exposed to a well respected footballer like Wayne saying that right into the camera?

Alot of people, especially parents are going to be understandably upset and it's a reason why he was banned. He's a footballer, they all rant but most of it's inaudible, you can't say that directly into the camera, surely?
Who can advocate Wayne doing that?

I don't think it's a conspiracy, the next footballer to do what Wayne did will be banned. I have no doubts about it.

I feel sorry for Wayne, but I understand why he was banned.

Brilliant, No more than a two-match suspension for something no one gets suspended for! How lovely! We should be counting our blessings...

Swanson reported this on monday already that the ban won't be increased despite a potential appeal.

I'm fine with it if Reina, Crouch, VDV and every other pro footballer who swears on the pitch within 5 yards of a camera gets banned henceforth.

Yeah, reckon your edit is right. They want us to be grateful Rooney didn't get banned fir the season for daring to question their 'justice'.
