Ronaldo | Refused to come on as sub, left OT | Axed from squad for Chelsea & fined 2 weeks wages

What I find baffling in all of this is that Ronaldo could've waited just a few more games until the WC to exit (respectfully) where he would still have a great report with the fans who adore him, instead of tarnishing his legacy over something so stupid. Just goes to show how little of a fk he cares.
Agree with this 100%!!

Which makes think there's something else going on in his head (Ronaldo's)

I'll always love Ronaldo, but with the World Cup 7 games away we can make it work to move him on now.
However, ideally we'd still use him in the 2 Europa games, as Martial is flakey beyond belief, and Rashy we still don't really know if he can be a striker even this many years in.
So an option to keep them a little fresher would be important.

Just hope we're looking for options for Jan.
I don't trust him at all.. he'll sulk on the pitch.. I'd rather keep him away from the first team squad..

Things are certainly being blown out of proportions. Ronaldo only walked down the tunnel into the dressing room and stuff.

Players do that all the time to get something. It's not like he left the stadium. Giving him a huge fine and being axed from squad for an important game is certainly an over reaction from the club.
Who has done this before and not been punished?

Not going to defend Ronaldo on this as he is clearly wrong and deserved all the punishment. But it’s really been blown out of proportion to be fair.

1. Didn’t turn up preseasons - club has approved it to be fair (although he shouldn’t miss it for his own good)

2. Posting on social media - He post things all the time, not hard to understand why as he has the biggest brand in this entire world to manage

3. Vallecano game - that one was his fault. Manager already made that very clear he is not happy about this, but its only preseason friendly and he has already done his mins, so no biggie

4. Petulant all season - That’s on your own perspective only

5. Didn’t come on, left early - Unprofessional act. He is undermining manager’s authority for refusing to play, fully deserved all the punishment. (But Scholes did something similar in the past too, which said a lot as players are not saints and sometimes they do make mistake)

At the end of the day, club made the statement clear, Ronaldo is paying his price now and he does sound apologetic (by his own standard) afterwards. So let’s just move on. It’s not like he has purposely hurt anyone or go publicly shaming anyone at all. It’s more a case of him failing to control his own temper/ego at the heat of the moment, and did something stupid.
So would he be ready to finally accept and take on a lesser role as back up/sub or is he going back to the delusion of thinking he's above it?

It's like these journalists/pundits are brain damaged, Ronaldo was alright last season and Rashford and Martial were terrible. This season (which is not the same as last season, a distinction I'll make for them) Ronaldo has been terrible whereas Rashford and Martial have been good.

what in the Stockholm syndrome is this

The media absolutely love this...watching them salivating over the whole drama tells you all you need to know about modern football.
It’s just so fecking stupid. Problem is, people lap it up, that’s why the media does it. If people don’t care, no one else would bat an eyelid.

How as a United fan people with any degree of intelligence listen to this shite is beyond me, absolute crap from every show.
From what I see it really has plummeted to below gutter level. Even its white van man target audience complains it's beneath them now. That it's probably more popular than ever speaks volumes about the state of the UK.

I guess he won’t really accept the reality now, as it doesn’t align to this character. But it’s also clear he does not fit in ETH plan, and he is no longer at the age suitable to play week in week out in the toughest league.

Hence I think it’s best for us and for him leave in January, to enjoy his last playing years in a farmers league, and to enjoy his well deserved retiring years in more honorable manner.

It's good to see Ten Hag handling this situation well. Also nice that the club are obviously backing him with his decisions, even today it could have been easy to start the press conference with "the club has put out a statement, we aren't going to take questions on Ronaldo". Instead you have the manager confirming he refused to come on and go into more detail.

Not just that. He has to reduce his wage demands DRASTICALLY. He cannot think he's still good enough to be among the top paid players in any team fighting for anything. He'd have to more than half his demands. Nobody is gonna be willing to pay him more than 200-250k a week.

And he has to accept that he just cannot be the main main in any team. Even Messi had to accept that and he's younger than Ronaldo. He can be third fiddle at best.

I also don't get why he wants to play 90 minutes every week. He should want to play 15-30 minutes a week and 60 every other week. He is in the managing retirement phase of his career and he needs to accept it. His career is coming to an end. He can face it gracefully or he can go crying as a disgrace.

Why shouldn't the media report it? It's an incident that has spawned 2 official statements in the span of 12 hours and the possible exit of the most well known footballer. It's not exactly media generated clickbait. There's nothing unfair about the media situation.

I don’t get that too. In fact, having played 2 games in last 7 days is already more than what he could manage at this age. ETH did let him play in alot of games this season, so it’s all down to his own ego there.

By January, he either had to accept to lower his wage demand massively (~100k) if he is going to Sporting etc. If not, he could go to Dubai and getting paid 1m+ per week, but he migh risk letting Messi taking some of his record and legacy, which I don’t see him willing to give that up. For sure he could still stay with us until end of season to prove something, but he may have to accept to play a smaller role.

People don't like to hear it, but Rooney was 100% right back then.

The way he went about it was wrong, but he was right with his complaints.

It's all about opinions. Many could argue that Ronaldo is right too - he's disillusioned with the lack of ambition in the club and how far we are from being competitive. The reality is that we were much more competitive when Rooney was unhappy than what we are now. I think the major difference here is that Ronaldo's actions were a very public 'eff you' to the manager in front a packed house at OT with a massive worldwide audience watching. Totally unacceptable and personally I think he shouldn't play for the club again.

Look at what you did Ronaldo. Look at what you did that someone actually took their time to create this abomination.

1. The club will obviously say that, as soon as the team was in Manchester, he turned up then expecting to start.

2. You dont post things like The King plays or silly like that.

3. It was a biggie, the manager said, no one should be doing that, regardless of mins, its called building a culture. Ten Hag brought up that game again today in his presser saying that was a warning.

4. No, you can see him when he is taken off.

5. He didn't just refuse to come on, he walked off, out the ground with 5 mins to go, what excuse do you have for him there?

Clearly, its a repetitive thing, he done that against Vallecano so, its not a heat of the moment.

He saw the team perform at their best, our best performance without him, he saw the headlines being about the team and took the selfish option of creating his own headlines to overshadow the teams great work.

Look at the team when he scored his 700th goal, all supporting him, but when the team wants his support he fecks off?

I dont think there's any point in discussing anything about Ronaldo with that poster.

This narrative that we are better with Ronaldo is hogwash. Our general play suffers when he plays, and now his finishing isn't up to snuff also.

I'm sure these people calling Ronaldo to play actually want the club to fail... or just not worth to listen to.

1. You could be right but that’s speculative.

2. Normal people won’t post that, but not him - he does that all the time, it’ not really worth pointing that one out, it’s already in his package when we bought him here.

3. Yes in principle I’d agree, but end of the day it’s only a meaningless friendly and he has already done his part. Its not really a serious offence there, but definitely it’s a bad thing to build for the culture and deserved a warning.

4. Just one game but not all season. Hence I’ve said at the start, the way people took it, it’s blown out of portion.

5. Again not going to defend him in this. That’s all his fault.

But I do agree he is acting ungrateful to his teammates after they all celebrate his 700 goals just a week ago. He owed his teammates a respectful celebration there.

I do like the fact that his narcissistic personality is somehow a defence for his bad behaviour (usually brought up by people who admire him) like "Well that's just who he is so what do you expect?".

Of course. You have been defending Ronaldo who acted like a drama queen
Nah. You have not been listening and just acting like an assuming prick here. No way I am defending him for what he did last game, but just merely pointing out how things are blowing out of proportion and people acting like drama queen here.

Unfortunately, the first nail on Ronaldo’s coffin was declaring he wanted out and not being able to get that move. It gave full leverage to ETH to treat him like any other player. So while it looks like Ten Haag has been unprecedentedly strong here by putting his foot down against a player of Ronaldo’s stature; it was made considerably easier the moment it became clear that CR7 didn’t have many options beyond staying.

He then had to sit put and follow the managers orders and there’s nothing he could do about it. That’s if we are to believe the narrative that no club wanted him at least.

It's not our of proportion though, thats the point. This happened earlier in the season against Rayo Vallocano.

The manager made a clear point to the team then; you stay with your team mates until the end, no leaving early.

He refused to play, then went directly against those rules. This time though he singled himself out. Clearly it is a big deal to the manager.

I am not disagreeing to that and I am fully behind ETH on this one.

But I mean, when Antony go on strike at Ajax, or when Scholes refusing to play a game under Fergie, things weren’t blown out of proportion as much as 1/10 as this one. Surely the name is different this time so the interested it’s generated would be on different scale. But still, you get what I am trying to say.

Ronaldo is lucky that he didn't do that to Mourinho or someone like that. ETH has been extremely kind, up until this point and he is still giving him enough space to comeback.

Nar, I think @Rob Bowman makes a good point here. Sometimes egos get the better of even the most humble players & result in them acting unprofessionally.
Ronaldo was acting a knob with a bruised ego, just as Scholes did back then.
Big difference is that Scholes was in his prime and more “justified”, thought still shocking behaviour mind, he and gaffer had to work things out. I think at this stage, ETH likely can’t wait till Jan to move on.

Yeah that was my point. Thanks for saying better than I did.

Part of being a good friend involves telling your mate when they’re in the wrong. The fact that Rio, Evra etc. seem unable to do that isn’t admirable.

Wonder what Fergie thinks of this since he told ole to bring him back to the club

I think Sir Alex always knew Ronaldo was a knob but lived with it because Ronaldo was so good, and he had a measure of control over him. It takes a big personality to deal with someone like Ronaldo and ten Hag’s response has been perfect. Sir Alex likely approves.

I thought this whole leaving the pitch thing was blown way the feck out of proportion because it was simply just Ronaldo being Ronaldo, he's a selfish cnut and always has been.

However I had no idea about his refusal to be subbed on, none of us did until it was revealed today. For this he should in my opinion be thrown out of the team completely until January and we should try to mutually break the contract.

Unforgivable stuff from the cnut here. This club has given him so much and the supporters have always stood by him and given him true love and support. You do not pull of this kind of bullshit he has done. Can't stand the jackass anymore get rid asap.
