Ronaldo | Refused to come on as sub, left OT | Axed from squad for Chelsea & fined 2 weeks wages

The Pogba comparisons didn't stick so they moved to Rashford, next it should be Shaw and his burgers, Maguire learning greek, De Gea stealing donuts or maybe Martial and his harem.
Now I know why he's always pulling things. :smirk:

Everyone saw this coming when Ronaldo wasn’t sold. He has the attitude of 12 year old spoiled child. Sad that the club still straddled ETH with him.
I doubt any Utd fan reckons ETH is in the wrong (except the Ronaldo fanboys but they aren’t really Utd fans).
Hope this is the end of it and we don’t hear about Ronaldo in the news till January when the cnut is sold.
12 year old?

I've seen more mature stuff in my kid's daycare.

As much as I still love Ole the way he managed the squad and this is night and day.

It has been dealt with. And its Ronaldo, not any other player, of course this will get a lot of attention and he counted on it, its just he thought it will play a lot different than this.
Maybe. Or he's forcing his move, burning every bridge to get MU to release him in January at a minimum cost (for him). How does that play out for his preparation for the WC, I wonder. He's not an idiot, he knew that ten Hag would drop him immediately and play him even less than before, now that he gave him a good reason to do so without much backlash.

Either way, I think that there's no coming back and he'll definitely leave in January. Can't have that going on the whole season, which will definitely happen.

Yes, he's definitely forcing a move. It's just he maybe thought he could go away with this and ETH and club's response wont be as strict as it has been. It's so daft from him cause he played few games from the start, admittedly cause Martial was out but even still. Acting like this he probably wont play much till WC if he'll even play a minute so it backfired colossaly.

Me too.

I remember a story someone linked a few months back about a young Ajax player (Noa Lang) who’d scored a hattrick on his debut. ETH shoutEd instructions as the player went past and the lad backchatted. Sent on loan a month later.

Also that player who was late twice in our pre season (rumoured to be Garnacho) and left out completely. Said to a mate at the time “I like him already”.

A paper said his five rules are…
  1. dropped if late for training or team meetings
  2. no drink alcohol in gameweeks
  3. eat what is prepared by the club (personal chefs are banned)
  4. BMI to be checked monthly
  5. should complain to Ten Hag rather than agents
Note that Shaw looks slimmer/sharper.

So what is your allegation here mate, that Shaw has Ronald McDonald as personal chef?

It's really difficult not to. By and large, he seems to be getting everything right. Not just man management and standards but also he seems pretty astute tactically. My hopes and expectations increase almost by the match. Not in a stupid way but just my levels of optimism that the managerial seat is finally occupied by someone with a clear enough plan and methodology who carries enough 'inner force' about him that he'll be able to implement it at this level. Good stuff.
Strangely, he was my first choice but it was mostly based around his tactics and how he had Ajax playing. My one “concern” was actually that he’d not managed big egos and/or dressing rooms yet (he was at Bayern before but not as manager), so that was a bit of an unknown but he’s basically been perfect on that score. Dropped out of form big names, kept playing in form “lesser names”, disciplining our most high profile player and not giving in to any reputations etc. Been absolutely superb and such a fresh situation to have at the club since SAF retired.

I've always maintained that him joining us wasn't a bae idea in principle but it would have needed him to be a version of himself he's never been (a humble team player who'd accept his decline).
It's sad he doesn't realize how much more appreciated he'd be if his behavior was spot on and more team oriented. This "I can't do wrong" mentality is very toxic, there is no accountability these days
Completely agree. This didn't need to be a bad move at all, but he lacked the self awareness for it. He's obviously someone who most players have idolized over the years and probably still look up to him, he could've offered real inspiration and guidance to the players and helped us during this transition, and he would've earned a lot of respect from everyone in the game for doing so, instead he made it all about himself, and I'm afraid that if he can't accept his decline it's only gonna get worse for him.

Yes, he's definitely forcing a move. It's just he maybe thought he could go away with this and ETH and club's response wont be as strict as it has been. Acting like this he probably wont play much till WC if he'll even play a minute so it backfired colossaly.
Dropping him for the next game and a fine was the bare minimum if the club didn't want to become a laughing stock and wreck the dressing room in the process. Any other player would have never played again and been sold in the next window. However they have to tread carefully given that well, it's still Ronaldo with all the stories that will come out the longer he's dropped, an there's a striker shortage. It will depend on injuries and team performances. Imo, he'll get games in Cups and the EL. In the PL though...

Ten Hag is handling it really, really well but for his sake and the team's, the club should absolutely get rid in January.

feck him, it really pisses me off that after that performance against Spurs the main headline is Ronaldo walking off the pitch 1 minute before the 90 are up. Let’s ignore him as those who have got kids know that when they throw a hissy just ignore them and they’ll get bored!

Sometimes I try to stay away from threads that only want to pour negative abuse on our players, especially if they had a bad performance, but it just can't be helped. I don't understand most of you (unless you are Liverpool fans in disguise); why do you all seem so happy pouring abuse on any player or even our manager after a game where we didn't do well?

Ronaldo's behaviour was wrong, but at least he apologized and even mentioned he did it in the heat of the moment. If he truly wanted to create chaos, he could have written something along the line of disrespect or worst still, just keep mum. Considering that he is a very big player and big players hate to stay on the bench (even Scholes once refused to play and Pep has said Messi hates to be subbed off), it is quite remarkable he has been very professional with his behaviour until the said moment at Tottenham game. Its a small matter made very big by the press (and even bigger by you guys), and it is over now. All big time managers have to deal with player tantrums and ETH has dealt with this properly, that's it.

I hope the mods take a look into this, because there are too many of you going everywhere to ruin the threads (Rashford thread, McTominay thread even ETH thread).
Talk about deluded.

Is that you Ronnie?

I dont get what is being blown out of proportion? Do you have any clue whats going on?

1. He didn't turn up to Pre season
2. He then posted that he is ready to start - its the managers job that.
3. After Vallecano game he left the stadium - got warned
4. He has been petulant all season
5. He didnt want to come on, left the stadium before the game finished.

Are you serious ? It is how you discipline someone.
Not going to defend Ronaldo on this as he is clearly wrong and deserved all the punishment. But it’s really been blown out of proportion to be fair.

1. Didn’t turn up preseasons - club has approved it to be fair (although he shouldn’t miss it for his own good)

2. Posting on social media - He post things all the time, not hard to understand why as he has the biggest brand in this entire world to manage

3. Vallecano game - that one was his fault. Manager already made that very clear he is not happy about this, but its only preseason friendly and he has already done his mins, so no biggie

4. Petulant all season - That’s on your own perspective only

5. Didn’t come on, left early - Unprofessional act. He is undermining manager’s authority for refusing to play, fully deserved all the punishment. (But Scholes did something similar in the past too, which said a lot as players are not saints and sometimes they do make mistake)

At the end of the day, club made the statement clear, Ronaldo is paying his price now and he does sound apologetic (by his own standard) afterwards. So let’s just move on. It’s not like he has purposely hurt anyone or go publicly shaming anyone at all. It’s more a case of him failing to control his own temper/ego at the heat of the moment, and did something stupid.

He didn't apologize anywhere. Reread the post. He half ass admitted it was heat of the moment, but he never apologized to the club, teammates, coach or fans. Who are all owed one. Until he does that, I don't want to see him put on a United shirt again. TBF even if he does, he's no use in a United shirt. But he's not fit to wear the shirt until he apologizes.

Which striker or strikers are we going to buy with 2 weeks of his wages?

1. The club approved it because they didn't want ten Hag's premiership kicking off with him having to reprimand Ronaldo. Ronaldo had the club by the balls and there was absolutely feck all ten Hag could do. I'm sure he would have much preferred all of his players present for preseason.

3. Leaving the stadium is a biggy, as ten Hag mentioned in his press conference just now. Preseason friendly or not, you can't just feck off whenever you feel like it. It's simple stuff.

Maybe not on your standard (or on most people standard here). But to be fair it as apologetic as you could get from him (yes he is kind of self-obsessed person).

The media absolutely love this...watching them salivating over the whole drama tells you all you need to know about modern football.

Football, politics, celebrity culture. If it generates clicks, the media are all over it. It's the same shit the world over.

Pathetic isn’t it? But it shows you exactly how big Manchester United are. This will rumble on until next week because this is what people want to read

Things are certainly being blown out of proportions. Ronaldo only walked down the tunnel into the dressing room and stuff.

Players do that all the time to get something. It's not like he left the stadium. Giving him a huge fine and being axed from squad for an important game is certainly an over reaction from the club.
Refused to come on as a sub and left the ground before the match ended.

So, no, not blown out of proportion.

What I find baffling in all of this is that Ronaldo could've waited just a few more games until the WC to exit (respectfully) where he would still have a great report with the fans who adore him, instead of tarnishing his legacy over something so stupid. Just goes to show how little of a fk he cares.

Maybe not on your standard (or on most people standard here). But to be fair it as apologetic as you could get from him (yes he is kind of self-obsessed person).

With the greatest of respect to you, just feck off for a while yeah?

1) You insisted it's no big deal that he walked off on the 89th minute instead of 4 minutes later and implored everyone to move along, nothing to see here and that club has punished Ronaldo.
2) When it transpired that he didn't come on when asked, you've basically said he's punished by the club and we should all move along and forget about it
3) You've taken his verbal vomit (I've been great and shiny, but stuff happens to the best of us bullshit) and said he apologized, just not to everyone but to him.

Ronaldo has created a ridiculous situation of his own making, on a night when we did really well against good opposition, resulting in an awkward situation for the players and undermining the manager's authority. Club has fined Ronaldo and suspended him 2 weeks' salary. We are without Martial and Ronaldo could have been an option to come along as a goal threat. He has deprived the club of that option as well. Stop telling us to move along.

2 weeks wages, so £1m or so?!

That's some decent business for us!

1. The club approved it because they didn't want ten Hag's premiership kicking off with him having to reprimand Ronaldo. Ronaldo had the club by the balls and there was absolutely feck all ten Hag could do. I'm sure he would have much preferred all of his players present for preseason.

1. It could be true, but it’s all down to speculation here. At the end of the day the club has officially approved that, so who are we to argue against the club’s decision. Personally I do think it’s the biggest mistake he has made in his career, as it has contributed greatly to his loss of form/fitness during the early seasons, and eventually leading to this mess.

3. Again that one was his fault. But it’s really just a meaningless friendly and he has already done his mins, that’s why I said it’s no biggie. In principle though it might be a biggie to some, but I think ETH did the right thing for speaking out in public against it.

The media absolutely love this...watching them salivating over the whole drama tells you all you need to know about modern football.

The most annoying thing about this is it just put a cloud on what was an almost perfect night of football.
Absolutely playing Tottenham off the pitch and being quite disappointed a mere 2 goal margin!

Ten Hag is managing this superbly. Bet he couldn't believe his luck when the summer shenanigans left Ronaldo clearly off the pace without a pre-season, as then it was quite an easy call to start him on the bench.

Then the action on the pitch is the alibi to not change a winning team.

It was never this bad before the Ronaldo & Messi era. Social media probably has a lot to do with that.
Which is American. They're at the root of all bad things!

It came out quite quickly that Ronaldo had refused to come on as a sub yet the noise was still mainly about him leaving early. Good to see the narrative changing and the crucial problem beginning to get the importance it deserves.

I expect his main problem wasn't so much as being subbed on but as it being as a time wasting sub a few minutes from the end. If he'd been asked to replace Rashford with 25/20 minutes to go he'd have been on in a flash. His ego just can't handle him being reduced to a time wasting sub. I wonder if that was the moment it clicked his top level club career was over.

I'll always love Ronaldo, but with the World Cup 7 games away we can make it work to move him on now.
However, ideally we'd still use him in the 2 Europa games, as Martial is flakey beyond belief, and Rashy we still don't really know if he can be a striker even this many years in.
So an option to keep them a little fresher would be important.

Just hope we're looking for options for Jan.

You could perhaps defend those incidents of they were in isolation. But its one player over a period of less than 6 months..

And number 4 definitely isn't just different perspectives, the Newcastle game was clear to see.
