The loss of a kid is nothing to sneer at and it affects some people differently to others. I have some friends who lost a child during pregnancy 10 years ago and they still celebrate the child they nearly had and they still grieve. Not everyone is as tough as you.

His behaviour hasn’t changed since he lost his child. This behaviour is exactly in line with how he’s always behaved. You can excuse changes in behaviour after a traumatic event, continuation of existing behaviour is a little harder to excuse.

Just read his statement, he couldnt even bring himself to apologise in it.
He’s like a politician who fecked up (and god knows there has been enough of them recently) who don’t have the basic common decency to admit they made a mistake.
It is an unforgivable trait in a human being.
This “apology” has made me utterly despise him more than if he had said nothing at all. feck off ronaldo. You may have money, fame, football skills but you have failed at being a team player and a decent bloke.
Never want to see him in a Utd shirt ever again.

I'm not convinced this is true.
Nobody who he was open to joining was interested in him. They all publically rejected him. So if he were to leave, he would've needed to join someone like Sporting (whose manager also didn't want him), or go to a Saudi Arabia for money. He didn't have options. United was open to letting him go. Not a single club (worthy of Ronaldo in his mind) wanted him. We'll see who takes him on now.

At least he admitted he was at fault.
He didn't even. Half assed statement that doesn't apologize for his actions or to the club or fans or teammates or coach. Just talked about his own professionalism over the years. Self obsessed.

He obviously admits he was at fault. Hence in “the heat of the moment”. It’s actually quite ironic because very few posters on here would admit they’re wrong…

Grow up Ronaldo!
Grow up Ronaldo!
Admit you fecked up
And quit throwing strops
Grow up Ronaldo!

You believe him acting as a petulant child is cause of him losing his kid 7 months ago?? It has nothing to do with it. Stop trying to justify his cnutish behavior by making up excuses and using a kid's loss at that.
Jesus wept. I am not justifying his behaviour, I criticised his lack of a real apology. I never said it was the cause of his behaviour. You made a comment dismissing the issue of him having a kid die and I pointed out that not everyone can get over that sort of thing right away. Did you skip comprehension in English class at school??

That's on you. There was enough reporting from very good sources that all the deals Mendes was pushing us to consider included us covering quite a bit of his wages. I think Athletico were interested at a lower rate but Mended insisted on the same wages he's on and wanted us to cover the rest.
You made this up. Read that back and think critically.

How do you know who he was open to join? Its a cute narrative based on questionable premises.

Clubs dont "allow" agents to speak.

Why would Ronaldo agree personal terms if United wont sell to that club?

I think it's just as likely that the people in charge thought forcing Ronnie to stay would lead him into being a useful player for us. Maybe ETH thought the same (per his own remarks). A mistake in hindsight.

Clubs allow agents to talk to other clubs, you do realize that Football has rules against talking to an under contract players, And what do you think Mendes offering Ronaldo's services means, you think that terms weren't the basis of it?

He wanted to join a champions league club. Narrows down the list considerably when you consider who can get close to half his wages. They all said no. Do you want me to list them and put links to the public denials? None of them wanted him. So who would it be? Please, state some actual options where he could've gone.

I wish that he will go and have a successful World Cup with Portugal after which he will leave in the January window for another top club, outside England, and have a few good years before he retires.
We are better without him both on and of the field, but I still wants the best for him.

Wrong. The interested party has to give notice to the club. But agents can speak with whoever they want and it wouldnt stop Mendes who represents many different players anyway.

He admits he didn't set a good example, but he doesn't apologize. Which is what was needed. Whether he did it privately to his teammates and coach, who knows (I doubt it). But he owes the fans and the club one as well.

He didn't make it up, true or not.

According to media in Italy, United’s offer could stretch to $119 million for Osimhen, and the English club’s owners, the Glazer family, are willing to contribute a significant part of Ronaldo’s salary in Italy, after negotiating with the his agent, Jorge Mendes.

However, according to the Napolés outlet ‘Il Mattino’, Aurelio De Laurentis, the club president, has set clear conditions, among which Manchester United would have to pay the entire salary of the Portuguese star, something that they reportedly would be willing to do since he is not moving to a direct rival in the Premier League.

No they can't, they do but they legally can't which is why they often use intermediaries. The registered representative of a player cannot talk to an other club without the formal agreement of the employer.

Player manager at Villa next week would be a good resolution. Guaranteed to play every minute and his ego can officially run a side at last. Would be ideal for all parties, except maybe Villa of course.

ETA - actually, turns out he could start tomorrow!

Look up the term 'legally'.

Erm, no he didn’t. Not even in the slightest.
I’ll give you a clue, an apology usually contains the word “sorry”.
Conspicuously missing from his “apology”

He writes he should set a good example but doesn’t always in the heat of the moment. He admits he’s in the wrong.

You have to be quite naive to think that agents, players and clubs don't talk to each other despite the laws. It's football. It's not exactly an industry well known for its respect of authority on or off the pitch.

I didn’t say he apologized in the statement.

I did say I expect ten Hag will have made him apologize to the squad & staff. Obviously in private. I expect a few words will have also been shared by his team mates. But admittedly this is all speculation from my side.

No - not correct you are missing the nuance in the statement.
Not once does he specifically say that he was wrong or use the word sorry. He’s a fecking weasel who cannot possibly admit he might have been a twat about something.
I hope ten hag makes him train with the u23s until the summer.

We should sell him to the Tories. Sort of better looking Boris.

Skipping pre season? Refusing to be subbed? Walking off down the tunnel before final whistle?

He's always been petulant but this is evidently going one step further.

A lot of disrespect for Ronaldo on here. He deserves better than that. Yes he should leave and not upto it anymore, but some of the stuff on here is out of order.
Sadly it's not, Ronaldo fully deserves everything that is being thrown at him. He's just a petulent child in a man's body. Sooner we get rid, the better.

given that statement was vetted by a PR company it is obviously a very deliberate choice to not apologise

I expect any PR company would want him to apologise in this situation, but he clearly just didn't want to

Absolutely I didn't. He was publicly shopping him around to Athletico, Chelsea and Bayern and each one publicly denied wanting to sign him. Then towards the end of the summer Mendes came up with a hare brained scheme to swap Osimhen and Ronaldo with Napoli and for us to still cover part of Ronaldo's wages.

Depends what his objective is. It looks as if it's to get out of United asap so not apologising would be the logical move. I expect the PR company will be guiding his every move.

If he really is so desperate to get Champions league playing time then he could sit down with the Utd heirachy and renegotiate his contract so that wages arent the thing making it hard for him to find a new club. Of course his ego is telling him that surely someone is going to want to pay him those wages because in his mind he is amazing. In many respects his attitude is a sign of stupidity considering the point in his career he is at. Lower wage demands would make it easier to find another club in the champions league willing to give him a short contract and then he could carry on chasing stats.

I think it's fair to say his objective is to leave as soon as possible

he already tried that in the summer, has only played due to injuries since and he's currently dropped from the squad for a big game

Can we not act like Ronaldo hasn't been a bit of a numpty throughout his career though?

Always been a self absorbed cnut......because of what he has done for us, supporters look past it and sing his name....great Utd legacy? Yes, but yesterday was over the top even for him. I know he is frustrated but he a footballing God who doesn't know he's past it. Can still play and contribute but not at the highest levels anymore. Doesn't want to play ETH football, wishes Ole were still here. Just saw Utd are may let him go on a free transfer. Good to have a manager with some bollocks to tell even the biggest names to feck off. We needed this type of manager years ago.
