Ronaldo (37) Slaps Phone Out of Child’s (14) Hand | Charged after 5 months of deliberation

Rashford exchanged a few verbals with a mouthy fan and there's uproar and outrage.

Ronaldo slams some kids mobile phone onto the ground and just a "oh it's nothing" from the majority

I swear I've seen more of these comments than actual comments saying its nothing

Lots of judgmental people around here. So he's not perfect and reacted poorly after a defeat. At least he cares. I'm sure Pogba was probably dancing in the dressing room...

He cares that his profile is been damaged by playing for us right now, whether he actually cares about how crap United have become is very much open to doubt, either way it's such a childish thing to do, and if I was him I'd just give them some money and right it off as a bad day.

Let's say that Ronaldo is brought to trial for criminal battery for this assault on a child. How much time in behind bars would we expect he be required to serve, if found guilty?

Give your head a massive shake. Ronaldo loves to win. He is upset about how poor we are and if you don't think so you're a fool

Fecking hell, talk about making a mountain out of a molehill, typical of Scouseland.

I have seen a grown-up man beating a ball boy around a decade ago. And my God, I have seen a video archive of a player giving a kung-fu kick to a xenophobe from before I became a Man Utd fan. Get a grip!

Not just in Scouseland but also on here to be fair.

“Assaulting a minor”

For slapping a phone off his hand. The world really has gone soft.
It’s the legal definition. It makes it sound like Ronaldo has absolutely battered him but nobody is suggesting that. Merely referring to in the eyes of the law what it is called.

Look up the definition of assault and then look up the definition of minor. It's factually correct, even if it does sound an OTT way of describing it

Dont forget when an Everton fan was trying to fight a player whilst holding his young child.

Yeah but along with the definition, common sense also prevails in courts, Ronaldo might get a fine because he's a celeb, but that's all.

It's terrible behavior on his part don't get me wrong, but a broken smartphone is not the worst thing to happen to a child.

Footballers are just like us, people with flaws.

Kinda funny isn’t it.

A bit in that

I just wish he’d rip into the others and explain what it is to play for Manchester United, it’s not just a pay cheque
Fair point. Not his job...but he did it in an interview. Alluded to giving advice in training and not getting listened to.

Bit weird some of the reactions here. I don’t know about the individual in the case but I do know that my brother who has autism sometimes doesn’t understand personal boundary and space in terms of things like photography/video (which he enjoys and is one of the few things he loves doing) and I imagine for this kid it was the same. He’s just seen his favourite team win an important game and he ends up being hit for the pleasure (unintentionally) which has caused him to feel uncomfortable going back. The gesture to go see a United game and apology is a rubbish one too. He doesn’t support United or Ronaldo, I doubt he cares at all about him or them. He just didn’t expect to be hit and I doubt anyone else did either. Frustrations happen but if you lash out and cause injury/distress on another when doing that then you deserve the punishment that will come your way.

But what do you think is a fair and reasonable response? I don’t like Ronaldo, certainly in terms of my perception of his personality, and I couldn’t give two hoots if he got a ban by the FA, but let’s make the punishment fit the crime. Even though giving him a warning as to his conduct wouldn’t actually mean much (he’d brush it off and it would only become a factor if he did it again next week), I just can’t see how any of the FA, police, or Utd could reasonably go further. And as I say, I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t like him, I’ve no agenda.

I’ve already tried this! You will unfortunately find that being completely correct in your explanation has zero effect, and within about 10 posts someone else will say exactly the same thing, almost always with a following reference to being soft or a snowflake. But respect for fighting the good fight!

A fine or a 1-3 match ban would be fair considering it took place directly after the game and therefore still within the context of the ‘match’ and offering the lad tickets to Everton rather than United.

I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere here but didnt hazard boot a ball boy a few years ago on live TV no less.

Yeah but the ball boy was deliberately trying to stop him getting access and Hazard does so much charity work he should be allowed to curb stomp teenagers too. Catch up!

And when a Spurs player jumped into the stands to fight a fan. That was the one I really couldn't believe he got away with.

This is all over the news because of who Ronaldo is and who he plays for. A nice wedge of cash for the kid and a new iPhone and this will all be forgotten.
