Romeo Lavia | Chelsea bound?

Nearly 2000 mins in DM/CM in the PL at 19 and people are seriously unsure if he’s any good?

He is good - but he isn't good enough to play DM for a team fighting for top-4. He is inconsistent as you can expect for a player that young - at his best he was really good, at his worst he gave goals away by making the wrongs choice less than 30 yards from his own goal. I would like to have him - but I can't justify us signing him for £50 million. Especially if we sign Amrabat who will make him a 4th or 5th choice.

I’m not saying we should be in for him though now. At this point it would be a waste for what I think we need.

Lavia for me has the potential to be one of the best in the world but in an ideal scenario he would get another season of men’s football under his belt before we would be in for him.

It's a ridiculous notion. I'd take him as a backup with Evans coming in and selling Maguire bringing total cost down.

Would be one of my top signings I think he’s absolutely brilliant with the potential to be one of the best DM’s in the league.

£50m will look like a complete snip in 12 months, Liverpool will have DM locked down for years.

We’ll soon see because he will be first choice DM for Liverpool this season.

Independent says we’re interested (again). Doubt it myself.

Yes, and he will be great, now and in the future. Obviously, he will make a mistake now and then, but it's not like Casemiro doesn't do that (or any other player).

The ideal Casemiro understudy - shame he is seemingly off to that lot

Not only so but one that represents value. In an era where any promising player is quoted as 80 million without a release clause, Lavia is a great solution to a future problem. It's also problematic that a midfield signing last season for over 65M is already essentially in need of a long-term term replacement.

Still hoping he doesn’t go to Liverpool, I’m glad we’re playing tough. He’s an outrageous talent, best player I’ve seen in a Southampton shirt since VVD. He’s got the same almost arrogance to his game in which time just seems to go in slow motion for him when on the ball. He has every attribute to end up the best DM in the league if not the world. Incredibly frustrating that we got him when our team and management has been at its lowest.

I hope he ends up at United or abroad somewhere, or in a dream world, City after a season in the championship.

Don't have to lose sleep over missing out on young CMs. There are ones popping up every season whether it be Tchouameni, Caicedo or Lavia this summer.

Ugochukwu from Rennes that Chelsea bought isn't too far off, bit more leggy but a decent prospect nonetheless. There are others like Kone, Samed, Youssouf or the lads from South America, perhaps even more not on everybody's radar. Right now replacing Casemiro isn't the top most priority so understand why we are not going after him like crazy.

Agreed.

Sadly Casemiro was only ever going to be a short term solution. I would say he has almost been worth it already, given how pivotal he was to getting back into the Champions League and also his cup final goal.

That being said, it would be better to not end up in a similar situation again!

There's some horrendous over rating going on in this thread.

Lavia at half the price of Caicedo is very good value. Given that the job spec is a back up, I’d certainly be targeting him instead of Amrabat personally. He can develop to be far better, while being able to capably cover right now.

Beiing the main DM in a aggressive team that gives up loads of space like ‘Pool with noone to learn from , and having that pressure and responsibility thrown at you at his age, can also quickly go the other way

Where are all the posters labelling Liverpool ‘embarrassing’ and pointing out that a ‘well run club’ like Bayern would have just paid the asking price within 12 minutes so that the player can, of course, be signed for the start of preseason?

His club did get relegated. I'm not saying that's his fault but the fact that he played a lot as a 19 year old isn't ipso facto proof that he's a great player.

That would be nice, but most likely just our name used to hurry Liverpool up. Funny it’s coming from the scouse journo.
Which gives more credit to it being true than it not

Why are they so hugely reluctant to just lay a few million more for a player in a position they desperately need filled? Even more puzzling when they’ve just received massively inflated fees for Henderson and Fabinho. They don’t even have to dip into FSG’s pockets. Just use that money the just got.

Feels like if they don’t hurry up and pay the £50m another PL club will soon.

Shifting the deadwood and snagging Lavia from under them lots nose would probably make this the best window ever on paper.

Midfield duo of Lavia and Mainoo would work well for next 10 years.

It's a shame would have been a good move for an understudy to Casemiro. It's an area where there's no value unless the move for a DM comes from the scouts.

Nah, we aren’t getting him. We will get Amrabat. Signing both Amrabat and Lavia doesn’t make sense.

Their midfield is going to be so light, a lot of pressure on their defence to control games and impose their domination.
