Romelu Lukaku

What were people expecting of him when he was basically the only Everton player in our half for most of the game? Gotta be fair to the lad.

really hope we don't sign him

over rated, uninterested, all brawn, no brain or considerable technical ability

He was too selfish tonight, but I still think he showed some quality.

He'll be a top player, if he isn't already one.

I think he might got to PSG. He'll score plenty in France and I just can't see any of the big clubs in Prem being interested in him. He's just not good enough. For 6 years we've been hearing about his potential, but the truth is his best season in the Prem was 4 years ago when he was at WBA. He might have scored a few more goals this season, but he's played many more mins. He's just not even remotely comparable to the likes of Sanchez or Aguero, who are just brilliant technical footballer.

he's a great player with a great return every year over 4 years in the toughest league itw and he even heavent played for a top team, I wouldnt make him the priority signing but he would be an option...

Maybe I'm a bit too harsh, but considering his pricetag, he's a bit overrated. His first touch isn't that good, doesn't seem to have the right 'split-vision', maybe not the right 'understanding" of the game at the highest level? Just a feeling I get. But he's still Young and can hopefully improve more, I hope so.

But I hope someone else will replace Ibrahimovic whenever he leaves. I'd rather see the club buy a player on Ibra's level, close to the best in the world. Lewandowski would be a great signing, but probably impossible.

Did you not see him constantly letting the ball bounce off him? He gave it away so many times and shot from ridiculous angles.

His hold up play is not good enough for a team that has tittle winning aspirations, let alone posing a threat in The Champions League.

Agreed. Plus his ball control too.

His problem is that he thinks he's world class. Very few other people do.

Hes a good striker in the same way Bony or Santa Cruz were good strikers.
Hes not good enough to start for a CL team and I dont see anything to suggest he'd be particularly good cover or a sub.

I think the issue with Lukaku is that he's excellent on the counter and a great finisher, but not clever enough with his movement or technically gifted or a creative enough passer against teams that sit deep, and not many big teams constantly play on the counter with space in behind. He'd be a great signing for Atletico, maybe a decent one for Dortmund if Aubameyang goes or for Chelsea if Conte leaves, but I'd be wary if I was Arsenal or Guardiola.

I don't even think he's that good on the counter. He's quick and carries the ball pretty well but he never gets his head up. So many times he squandered a counter because he took on an audacious shot instead of playing the ball to Barkley or Mirallas.

It was his poor decisions on the counter that stopped them being any sort of threat.

People are being harsh IMO, great player for years to come. Maybe he'll never be among the absolute best strikers in the world, but he is already the tier below with time to further improve.

If the situation was different I would have loved to have him at Spurs.

Can we please put an end to the myth that Jose fecked up by selling him on from Chelsea. Looks like such a Donkey.. he was awful last night and Bailly/Rojo handled him with ease. He is not good enough for United - end of.

Anyone who spends £50million on him will waste their money and he'll be a flop.

I still believe he'll bang in goals for a team that always plays on the front foot and doesn't rely on the odd half chances. He'll look like a donkey at times, but with quality around him and a more attacking approach he'll easily score 20+ for a team like us. At 50 mil, I'd be fine with a transfer but that seems unlikely.

He wasn't good yesterday. Yes he was alone upfront, but I don't like his style and I don't want a striker in his style.

He can be a very good plan B, but Everton would sell him at 50M£ for sure.

But... at the end of the game, he was chatting with his mate Pogba and we could read what he said... It was not very nice to Koeman tbh.

doesn't seem likely that Mourinho would want him now, would be like admitting he made a big mistake

Scored more in the league, for the last 3/4 seasons, than anyone has in a single season for United since RVP.

But he's a donkey, righhhttttttt.

I don't see enough of him week in week out but I am sure if he was on our transfer wish list that Mourinho would have been keen to see how he performed in back to back big matches like he's just had. We're looking for a player who can change a game even when the team are not fully at the races and I don't think Lukaku is there yet.

He is. Such a predictable forward against top sides and at no stage did I feel he was difficult for our defence to handle. He thrives on space but once that is taken away from him he is definitely short of top tier of strikers

He's a physical beast who wants to play like the technical player he is not. Should just play up his physical superiority over defenders, but doesn't. He's at least as big and strong as Ibra and much faster, yet look at the difference for the CBs

He's no donkey though, he's very good, at least as far as the PL is concerned

It's a tricky one. Last night was yet another example of how he can't perform like he does against the lower sides, in the bigger games. I think he has played poorly against the bigger sides more often than not.

On the other hand, his total volume of goals might be enough to put away the smaller sides in order to give us a platform to afford a draw or a loss against whoever the title challengers at any given time are.

21 goals, yet he's a donkey. I would love a donkey at United, and throw in a mule as well. He's astonishingly quick over distance. Rojo is pretty fast, but Lukaku breezed past him, with the ball no less - Smalling bested him last year though, and I think Bailly held his own well. He is very isolated up front when Everton chooses to play so defensively though. Not sure about him. Like Fellaini and Ibra, he loses a fair few aerial duels, and unlike Ibra, the ball isn't exactly glued to his feet either...

Let's be honest the guy was isolated all of the 2nd half. First half he was quite a threat and linked the ball up well, just took the wrong decision on a few times.

2nd half he had both Bailly and Rojo to beat, that isn't easy. He had our whole half to run into and try to score, we didn't make it easy for him.

Everyone loses aerial duels

Jermaine Defoe does good against top sides, maybe we should get him.

Lukaku is the best striker for his age and would fit us perfectly. He might be this flat track bully.. but if we had a flat track bully for this season we would be top.

I thought he played well for them but would tend to agree that he wouldn't suit Utd I don't think.

He is a bit lazy and lacks movement at times - also he is prone to keeping his head down when he runs the ball and doesn't always see 'the big picture' and as a result makes the wrong decision as was evident several times last night. Other than that he is a beast.

I'd still take Kane over him personally because I believe his all-round game is just better.

Disagree completely. He lacks the nous to play for a top club. Our biggest problem this season has been playing against packed defences and you need strikers with great intelligence and excellent technical ability in tight areas which Lukaku does not possess. When our European rivals possess the likes of Suarez and Lewandowski .. it would be so United of us to spend big money on a flop like Lukaku and further set us back.

For me anyone who thinks Lukaku is a top tier striker lacks understanding of what it takes to be a top class forward. It's like when Liverpool tried to bring in Benteke just because he was doing well at a smaller side.

I take the opposite view. Lukaku is not going to be Suarez's level but would be a safe bet to score a lot of goals for us.
