Romelu Lukaku vs Alvaro Morata 2017/18

For as bad as Morata has been, he still has a better minutes to goal ratio than Lukaku (in PL).

Surprised at how highly Costa is rated. Had a very important role in Chelsea’s last title no doubt, but never especially prolific here, often more trouble than he was worth and could be truly anonymous at times.

I was wrong on this debate.

I still think Morata is more talented but Lukaku has the mental strength and desire to succeed, even if his technical abilities aren't the best.

Lukaku fits United more and I'm now so glad we got him instead.

Could care less about that. Crouch probably has a better goal per minute than Kane yet I know who I’d rather have

Holy hyperbole Batman!

The longer he’s been away, the greater he’s become to fans who’ve forgotten the player he is/was. It’s crazy.

All depends how you look at it. You can also say Lukaku has scored exactly 1 goal in every 2 PL games, yet Morata’s record is worse than that.

Morata has started 19 PL games and has made 4 sub appearances totaling 75-85 minutes.

Costa is still in other level when compared to Lukaku/Morata. Guy is crazy good, just look at the upturn in performances of At. Madrid ever since Costa has come into their team.

I think Lukaku has the making of a potential top striker. Big physical striker who can set up his teammates and has a good shot on him and can impose himself in the box.

For as bad as Morata has been, he still has a better minutes to goal ratio than Lukaku (in PL).

The only reason for that is Morata is not playing much given his poor form, whereas Lukaku has continued to play through his dip in form and is now producing with goals and assists.

Lukaku will go down as one of the best strikers in PL history.

Morata will be an afterthought. Like Mutu and Kezman before him. He might have a good career in Italy or Spain somewhere though.

Does he? Was curious about this so I looked.

Stats I can find suggest per 90 minutes they score at about the same rate in the league (0.5 per 90) and Lukaku is more prolific in Europe (0.6 vs 0.3).

Lukaku still has a massive upside. Don't think he has reached anywhere near his full potential yet.

To be fair he already has 99 goals, by the time he’s retired he’ll be close to 200, which in terms of goals he’ll be right up there

If he stays in this league and that's a big if

Of course he will. Provided he remains here for the rest of his peak footballing years, he'll have notched 200+ Premier League. On what planet does that not constitute being remembered as one of the league's great strikers?

Which is what I highly doubt

I can’t see him going anywhere else, the league is perfect for him

I cant imagine we'd sell him to a rival and given he's played here most of his career why wouldn't he want to try to play in Spain or France?

Only 2 clubs in Spain can afford him and he's unlikely to ever be a target for them.

I reckon Atleti could afford him at a push, but he’s probably not worth that push.

Things change, I'm not necessarily suggesting a possible sale would come within the next year or so (it's mental to even discuss it right now) but in 3 or 4 years can I still see him being our main centre forward? Not at the moment no

Still not convinced about Lukaku. You could see Pogba having a go at him for his movement last night. Wonder how much more fluid and dynamic we'd be with a Martial or Rashford up front.

That said, we've definitely got a better deal than Chelsea!

Ofcourse. What I'm saying is, even if he leaves us, its unlikely to be because Real or Barca came calling.

Edit: Should make myself clearer. With him, I get the feeling he's never going to be a Real target as I said but at the same time, he's perfectly suited for the league and already at what must be good wages. Wages other clubs in Spain cant fork out. I can't see him not spending the next 5yrs in the PL, be it with us or some other club.

Kane is the only striker I'd swap him for. Lukaku is a beast and he will become a great for us I'm sure. I'm certain that when our overall play becomes a bit more consistent, his goal tally will increase by x-fold.

We have no dynamism in our attack at the moment. Just looks like 4 or 5 individuals trying to do what they like. It's up to Jose to make things click but I'm certain it'll happen.

For a first season, Lukaku has been brilliant in terms of goal-return.

He is a better striker than both. Thought we were passed this nonsense already.

Lukaku is a good striker for his age and He has plenty of room and time to keep on improving.
But yeah, He's not a flashy player and They are usually looked down upon. Donkey, one trick pony, etc etc.
His job is to create and score goals first and foremost. He's been doing fine in his first season at United.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here @Pete Dahh Sneak but getting benched for games against decent opposition is no doubt a factor, and certainly not one that should be used in an argument for Morata.

He's played every game against the top 6 except this game vs City...?

The only reason for that is Morata is not playing much given his poor form, whereas Lukaku has continued to play through his dip in form and is now producing with goals and assists.

He's scored 2 goals in his last 10 appearances. If anything, I'd say Lukaku has been given the chance to rediscover his form while Morata has been injured twice and hasn't been given any playing time really since he's come back.

For me he was never prolific (averaging 0.6 goals per game) but I imagine he won more than his fair share of points for Chelsea. When you say "more trouble than was worth", you must be speaking about trouble for CB's because that is part of his worth. He make them uneasy and puts them off their game. A real menace. He played an important role for 2 titles at Chelsea, one title at Madrid and a Spanish cup. In all those campaigns there were more glamourous teams than Costa's yet his come out on top. I bet Chelsea don't win a title for ages now he is gone.

Did you know Morata once went 27 games without scoring a goal?

Pogba was in no position to have a go at anyone given his performance.

Thats what was said about his time at Real. Bla bla bla.

Lukaku is clearly the better striker.
