Perhaps it's not really racism but the point is that Drogba and Lukaku are almost entirely different styles of striker. Lukaku isn't good on the ball and doesn't hold up play well. Lukaku is a pure finisher and that's all he does really well. Drogba on the other hand was very good in his all round game and even if he wasn't scoring he could still be playing very well, the same can't be said about Lukaku. If anything I'd describe Lukaku as being more similar to Chicharito, in the sense that both are exceptional finishers and goalscorers but no other part of their game stands out and neither act that well as the focal point of build up in attack.

So really, it seems like people just compare Lukaku and Drogba because they are big, black and used to play for Chelsea. If Lukaku was white and didn't used to play for Chelsea I'm not sure people would compare the two. Not saying it's necessarily racist but it's clearly not great when people do that

I have to politely disagree with the highlighted bit. Lukaku is actually good with the ball. You need to watch him more. He didn't use to be good but he has clearly been developing that aspect of his game. Also, the Drogba that was good all round was not the same Drogba that first arrived at Stamford Bridge from Marseille. He was almost clumsy with the ball particularly when attempting to dribble but he improved on it. His set pieces were also not deadly until some seasons later. Drogba is the classical example of a player who got better with time. He worked hard on his game to become the Drogba that was feared.

We can get the best striker in the world. Not gonna change our W/L record until we improve their service!!!!

Ibra had good service last year, he missed a bunch of chances he should have not been missing and ended up top of missed chances chart

That was the theory last year with Ibra and it didn't happen. They really do need to step up. A good pre-season should help though. The last one left us totally under-prepared.

But I also believe our team will be better this year

Great signing imo. Strong, powerful, quick, good in the air and scores goals. His hold up play isn't fantastic but that can be improved upon. He's premier league proven and I think will score close to if not more than 20 goals next season. Lindelof and Lukaku is a great start, add a holding midfielder and a wide attacker and we will be a force next season.

Considering we forced Lukaku to join us instead of Chelsea and tricked Pogba to join us instead of Madrid they sure look as two happy chaps.

Probably because we hold their family as hostages.

You missed out Rashford, Martial and Shaw who all are very talented. Rashford is clearly in manager's good books.

"Spine". Was only looking at the presumable starters in positions through the middle of the pitch.

I loved the Luke Shaw dream as much as anyone, but if it ever does happen for him it won't be at United under Mourinho unfortunately.

Exactly.

Also people complaining about the price, what were alternatives? Morata and Belotti would've both costed give or take 5-10 less etc but they'd have been more riskier than Lukaku.

I'm pretty happy at this.

Me too.

No players are risk free. My opinion is you mitigate that risk on occasion by buying players who have done it in the league already.

For 24 he's experienced in terms of games played and goals scored. There's no guarantee but we're going to give him the platform to kick on. Hopefully he does.

Yes, but there is lots of good football discussion on the Caf as I also said. Look, I'm posting nothing negative, I wont upset those that don't like my views, I'll just casually discuss football with no hassle.

dude don't tie yourself to some throwaway remark. we all use hyperbole sometimes, to actually stop watching the team you support because they signed a player you weren't keen on is crazy. Lukaku wasn't my choice either but just gotta hope for the best now, if it doesn't work out we'll move on. technically gifted players/teams are by far my preference but yeah, just say you were emphasizing how much you didn't want lukaku and don't deprive yourself of watching/discussing United

Even if this happens, and not just because of footballing similarities, it doesn't make the person seeing those similarities racist.

In your opinion.
Generally I don't like to debate with people who say things like 'can we stop throwing around the race card'? on topics of race.
Implying that there is a 'race card' to begin with is a pretty ignorant way to view racism, in my opinion.

We can agree to disagree on that. :)

Really happy that is close to being official. It's great test for him. Also, glad we are playing the high level of opposition that we are in pre season. It will give him an indication of how difficult it will be at United and the high level that will be expected oh him, week in week out.

Now for his first assignment...convine Radja to come and sign for us. The other lanky Belgian we have has failed to do so far...

Kind of irrelevant when it's from considering Rooney never looked like that,

It was just a confirmation for the poster I replied to, as he suggested that may have lost some size since wearing the Everton shirt..."change of strip has suited him well!"

Lukaku
Martial Mikhi Rashford
Herrera Pogba

Xxxx

Mouth watering

He's pretty quick, right? Will complement Rashers and Martial, yes? We played superbly with pace.

According to sky, that's not what they said, they said Rom said " It was work and there's a meeting tomorrow " and pp replied "what did you say ?" and Rom said the same again.

They need to learn the language before translating it.

it's funny, if i say berbatov reminds me of Zlatan no one would say it's "racist" . I don't see why it's seen as that when the two people happen to be black , it's so daft.

It's all part of a broader tapestry..

It's sort of how people might start to get tetchy if "comparisons" were made to Gareth Bale or Oliver Khan but not David Beckham. Heskey has been the target of all sorts of race based vitriol for much of his career and so these sorts of comments will on occasion be part of the conversation whenever the topic of what makes Heskey "Heskey" comes to mind (which is what the making of a comparison entails).

The question that needs to be asked is not why someone would "knee-jerk play that card" but rather where and who is responsible for that card's existence in the first place.

Aren't Americans a bit funny about having people back in their country who have been charged for something???
Unlikely. It'll be a misdemeanor at most, probably a telling off. They don't care about stuff like that. Felonies are another thing though
