Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

Also coincided with him looking like a whale.

I don't get too torn up about us letting him go (not replacing him is what pisses me off) ... but seeing how much slimmer he looks for Inter does annoy me.
Ditched the northern bettys hotpots for Italian salads. Maybe it all happened naturally

I keep reading that he had an undiagnosed digestive problem in his time with us that led to his weight gain.

If true, our medical team have really let him down. Not a surprise there I guess, given how crap they are.

Yes having Lukaku and the others we sold has won us alot of league titles in the last few years.

Do you buy new furniture for your house before getting rid of the old one first?
Normally yes on the last part. Normally I do both in the same week at least. Not going a year without a bed or tables that is for sure.

Same thing I get a new house before I leave my old one. Although often you try to do both at similar times since you might need the funding from the old house to afford the new one.

We have to enough money to buy before we sell players.

Yep, our fault he got fat

The problem isn't Greenwood having minutes, the problem is that Martial is our starting 9. Comparisons to City, Arsenal, Liverpoo, Spurs is also not a comparison at all. Think about it, Aguero, Aubameyang, Kane, Firmino, Martial. One of these is not like the others.

Yes neither is Lukaku is he? Just because he is scoring goals in Seria A, which we knew he would should not change that we needed him out.

Yeah I keep seeing this too.

It doesn't look great for our medical team either which way because either a) he has a problem that they didn' t know about... morons , b) he got really feckin' fat and they couldn't be arsed to do anything about it... morons ... or c) they didn't think he was fat at all... blind morons.

We do but in all fairness to Ole, he took a gamble hoping Martial would be a no.9 and it has backfired.

You try to do it in the same window, but Lukaku deal took so long we were left with not much options and did not want to over pay in the summer market.

We should have brought someone in, or give Greenwood more minutes in the no 9 role imo.

He's not very fat now. In fact he looks much fitter than ever before. Did our medics give him the right diet advice?
He said he purposely bulked up for the national team.
Yeah our management are probably to blame for letting it happen but then it’s a club v country thing.

I just find it funny how many of our fans are in such a rush to always blame and talk shit about United staff. Now it’s our useless medics fault, and it’s probably Oles fault that it’s their fault

Of course they feckin' are.

We pay his wage and he plays for us 90% of the year. If he bulks up for the national team, tell him to feck' off and slim down.

So is it the management or medics? You’ve blamed both in 2 different posts

Our medical staff have a long and glorious history of being utterly woeful since 2014. Our bad fitness is now the stuff of legend.

I'd have them all fired any day of the week.

If it was a club vs. country thing then it would be down to our management, as that would be a player decision which our management should challenge. However, as I don't think that is the case, i'd imagine it was more a medical/dietary issue, which would be down to the medical team.

The two different posts were about two different issues, and thus would have different areas of blame

Though, as an aside... Is our overall management not in charge of our medical staff? Or do we run our team as individual silo operations that only get together at bi monthly meetings?

I never got this "bulking up for the National Team". Has anyone confirmed this other than him?

Why would they ask this of him? Did they hire a fortune teller that predicted they were going to draw Japan? Also, with Hazard and De Bruyne being the key players, it doesn't make sense to add a bully ball striker.

He was much closer to that level than Martial though which is why we should have adequately replaced him, we've spoken before on my feelings on that so won't go into it again. Ole was naive to trust Martial and some of these other wasters that have let past managers and the club down time after time, and it could very well cost him his job.

That's as reliable as you can get isn't it.

I mean... he could possibly have just been making excuse for getting fat on his own time?

Either which way, what doesn't make any sense is us allowing him to remain in that shape (unless we wanted him too? which would be stupid) for the whole season... especially with the shape he's been at Inter this season.

Yeah maybe.

He also spoke about how there is change in diet and the training is changed to bring him more to shape. Also tbf to club, he already lost weight in the preseason training, there was video of him where he looked like almost close to his best and then Conte factor helped him to get proper fit.

They did, and our backroom is no doubt crap. That being said, if Lukaku wanted to make a change, there's nothing stopping someone with all the resources in the world and plenty of free time doing so of their own volition. He could have tests galore and employ nutritionists left, right and centre if he felt something was wrong.

I'm not convinced the digestive problem thing wasn't a bit of PR though, to pull his name out of the mud a bit after what the did to his teammates, his general attitude, and being overweight for so long.

I cant believe a proffesional athlete needs the worlds best medical staff to stay fit and lean. Im mean fecking hell. Does no one ever go to the gym?

You are silly. There are different levels of fitness. To be at the peak need to be a world class football player I am sure diet, medical and fitness coaching can certainly help a lot.
It probably keeps Ronaldo and Messi at the top even at this age.
I think Lukaku did go to the gym too much since he got too big.

It was not even great in terms of avoiding injuries back then. Even Rooney often didn't look fit although his diet/drinking might not have been the best.
Ronaldo was and is a beast though. They did a good job there or Ronaldo just trained like a madman.
Giggs a physical beast too playing for so long.

Apart from them I do not feel we won things on being physically better. It was more on ability and great coaching/management.

The players took more responsibility then too, Rooney aside, who was just gifted. Giggs attributes his longevity to his yoga. Ronaldo had his own nutritionists. We definitely played at a higher intensity so I'd assume our general fitness was better. We rarely visibly looked tired despite this if I remember correctly. We have seemed to have more than our fair share of injury crisis' for a long time though.

I think SAF rotated the squad well to avoid tiredness though particular on older players like Giggs, Scholes etc.

I do think we lacked a bit physically near the end in midfield and up front. We struggled in the big games then more. Not just the time City smashed us at Old Trafford I think not replacing Fletcher when he got ill was a problem. Park was too old too and Anderson just didn't seem to care about hit fitness. Scholes and Giggs had naturally become even older.
Although Giggs could still perform at great levels in the odd game. Like against Madrid in the Nani red card game he was brilliant.
Rooney was fine, but had started his decline physically from being a total beast.

Not sure this was down to fitness coaching or medical staff though. Probably just a result of having old players past their peak.
Although the young ones like Jones got injured already back then a lot. Cleverley fine physically just not good enough.

That stupid stat proves you wrong, hence it’s stupid.

I attend games, I’m a season ticket holder, but tv or live, anyone with an ounce of sense knows we’ve missed a proper goalscorer this season, especially against the ”lesser” sides.

Did we need an upgrade on Lukaku in my opinion? Absolutely.

You are quoting that stat like it's solely because of Lukaku that we have a worse win percentage which is complete nonsense.
If you where a season ticket holder then you would realise the hell we went through with Lukaku in the team
Also when we where flying under Ole Lukaku was benched most of the time .
Yes I agree we 100% needed a upgrade on Lukaku but we also needed to let him go

The caf has a very short memory. Lukaku although the goals he scored was very frustrating to watch.

We need a upgrade but Ole thought Martial and Rashford could do a job with Greendwood filling but unfortunately, they have hardly played together.

Totally agree. It's just the usual cry about anything on here . Lukaku would score 10 in 8 games then not score in 10 while contributing absolutely nothing because if he isnt scoring he's crap

This gets bumped when he scores. Yet another no-show against a big team in a big game. Got subbed off.

He'd be a good back up striker but doesn't seem inclined to take the role. Everton is his level as a starter every week. Better strikers than him have accepted a roll on the bench at big clubs, look at Berbatov or Solskjaer or Sheringham.
Maybe he'll do better by virtue of a relatively weak crop of strikers atm.

When We play against Inter in the Europa League, I hope We give no space for their attackers so They have to resort to long balls to Lukaku. The ball will bounce off him and that's them fecked.

And we kept getting reminders in here about how we never replaced his goals.

Rashord - Hasn't played now for 2 months and might never play again this season, has more goals than Lukaku had last year.
Martial - Equalled Lukaku's goal output from last season with that goal against City yesterday.

I don't know why people wanted to keep the guy. He was never worth the hassle.

This guy scored once against top 6 opposition during his entire time here whilst Martial and Rashford have done so 12 times this season...

Yet we'll still have 'fans' and rival fans claiming we're worse off after he bangs some in against Italian minnows  :wenger:
