Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

The whole interview is on YouTube on Ian Wright’s channel. It’s a decent watch and has good insight about the atmosphere in Italy. He seems a lot happier out there.

Oh, don't worry, Lukaku will keep reminding us how he wanted to leave and Ole was on his knees begging him to stay.

I’ve said it before that Lukuku is the player equivalent of Moyes. Both went to a club that was far too big for them, both turned out to be shit and quite frankly exposed as distinctly average - both won’t shut up about it!

Ole didn’t want Lukuku, certainly not as a first team player. I’m sure he would have been happy to use him in the same way as Ighalo is used. But sure as shit, Ole was not begging him to stay!

Reminds me more of LVG. Did well somewhere else but exposed at United, then never ever ever stops talking about us.

Lukaku was just one of these players who plays well in a certain system - in my opinion where they play in behind or over the top from a deep position for him to run onto. Ask him for any hold up play, neat passing triangles, give and go’s with the other forwards and he couldn't do it. The ball bounces off him, even Everton fans lamented that years before we signed him. Dont think he has much of an intelligent football brain on him to be honest. A good player overall but not what we needed. Its not uncommon for big money transfers to not work out. At least we got, give or take, what we paid for him.

All the media interviews etc are just him arse covering that he didn't fit in and wasn't good enough to lead the line for us, and knew he was going to be a bench striker so left for another league.

Theres lots of previous people from the club who like to chat shit, just like him. look at LVG, who spent 3 or 4 hundred million quid on mainly bang average/shit/random/over the hill players, then gives interviews saying stuff like he ‘didn't realise Man Utd couldn't sign ‘any player they wanted’. That was his reason for failure. He couldnt sign a load of galaticos. Its Not that he played antique football, sold all the wingers and strikers, and told the club to abandon a deal for Kroos to sign Schweinsteiger.

Dont know why people listen to this stuff. You fire managers. If players are shit, you cant fire them, you sell them, exceptions being if its a big club coming for a small clubs player, or a real madrid in for Ronaldo situation. I think I know where Lukaku fits into that

I’m so glad he’s not here anymore. He’s the playing embodiment of Mourinho – an absolute misery who doesn’t seem to enjoy his very privileged position.

I don’t rate Lukaku as much as the next guy but the reaction to a video of him saying good things about us is interesting to say the least.

He wasn’t good enough, he’s gone now, and he’s not going to say he wasn’t good enough.

Im so glad he's no longer here. Was never the right fit for us. I hate how he says United gave him a platform, like he used us as some sort of career spring board. Inter is a step down, so i'm glad he's happy there, but good riddance.

Everton fans have very openly warned us twice about people moving from their club to ours. When we bought Lukaku, many said we'd been fleeced with how much he cost and when we got Moyes many said he wasn't doing as well as people though, but more had the club at the exact level they should have been. Both times we thought they were just annoyed at us, both times they were right.

And people still wanted Ole to keep this guy.

Who will replace his goals they said.

Rashford and Martial both outscored Lukaku's total from last season with only 70% of the season completed and Greenwood needed just one more goal to equal it.

Lukaku had a ratio of 176 minutes per goal during his 2 seasons here. This season Rashford's ratio is 124 minutes, Martial's is 158 and Greenwood's is 129.

Is there anyone who still thinks we should have kept him?

In terms of mins to goals ratio you can add Ighalo to the list as well.

very rarely do you see a player who has such a high ego be so utterly crap.

I really don’t feel about Lukaku scoring for fun in Italy. Just couldn’t be arsed at all. Why? BecUse anyone who doesn’t want to stick around and prove his greatness by lifting those around him, when the times are bad, isn’t someone I want at my club.

Lukaku doesn’t have it in him to be a true great. He just scores goals and he’s happy with that. He could have gone down as a club legend has he stuck around proven his desire to give his all for the club. But the cold hard fact is... he didn’t want to.

He could have gone down as a club legend

He couldn't and he knew it. That's why he left.

He's more comfortable scoring against the smaller teams in Serie A - there's a reason he only managed to score once in 20 games against the top 6 in the PL for us and still hasn't scored against the top 4 in Serie A yet. The very definition of a flat-track bully.

How big is he gonna be when he comes back from this. Sat at home until the summer with nothing but pizza and pasta for company.

The thing is I genuinely don't believe him. My 7-a-side teammates all have better touches than him.

Jose Altidore who was terrible in England and is regarded as a joke by many, has a better first touch and hold up play than Lukaku. And yes I am taking into account the mls being shit compared to England.

You guys are harsh on him. He's by all accounts a decent dude. If he didn't feel like he belonged here, it's a hard feeling to get rid of. That's the beauty of life, you can change and move to something else.

Been running his mouth again

Romelu Lukaku apologises for Inter Milan coronavirus claim

Romelu Lukaku has apologised to Inter Milan after claiming that 23 out of 25 players had suffered coronavirus symptoms in January.

Former Manchester United striker Lukaku made his claims during an Instagram Live conversation with Belgian TV presenter Kat Kerkhofs(Mertens wife) on Tuesday.

Inter were stunned by the suggestions as they completed their January games with virtually a full squad of players.

The club are understood to have reprimanded Lukaku.

Thank the lord we got rid when we did. I have said it many times but he's the worst striker I've ever seen as a regular in a Utd shirt, can't control, can't really finish, can't hold up the ball, just a really average player. Yet another sign that Ole is not as clueless as many posters on here.

Didn't Solskjaer want and ask him to stay?

I took that to mean stay here and fight for your place, but don't expect to be the main man anymore. It was clear to everyone last season that he doesn't rate him.

He is talking too much these days, he should shut uo. It's been all over the news with the news of Inter squad being sick in January, why was he the one who needed to spread it(or lie?)? he likes to run headlines lately, doesn't he?

OGS is not a stupid man, and unlike someone like Jose he doesn’t throw players under the bus.

it was clear he didn’t want Lukuku as a first team player. If he’d have come out and said “Lukuku is not good enough, and we are trying to sell him” we wouldn’t have got the fee we did for him.

Exactly, I don't think he'd ever say that. He's smart enough to know that if you tell a player they aren't going to play much football, they'll leave of their own accord. Look at how he managed Smalling out. As you say it's totally at odds with Jose, just look at how he treated Schweinsteiger.

Lukaku is a very good player (way better than most posters here would have you believe), but he really doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut.

Please do tell me how this 'very good player' was capable of putting in the worst shows from a Utd striker in my lifetime. The guy is a bang average footballer.

Mourinho lost the plot when we went from Zlatan to Lukaku (I know Zlatan was injured but still)

Even now I'd take Zlatan over him

To be fair, Mourinho actively tried to make him play as a different type of striker than what he is. It still doesn't excuse the shitshow that he gave us in his second season and he's not suitable for how we want to play now, but he is certainly better than what he showed here. He did show periods of it in his first season.

Lukaku is weird.

I wouldn’t say he’s the biggest dick going or anything like that. But he’s just a really weird bloke. Doesn’t seem to have the mentality for it at all.

The sort of kid who’d only come out to play football once in every 7 times his mates went and then cried when someone called him shit because he slipped over.

He's too soft. He doesn't have the mentality for any kind of challenge, like his feeling gets hurt over every little thing.

The club ask him to change his game a bit? He gets offended and wants out.
Criticise him off pitch? He comes out with these weird statements.

I would really love to know what happened to him personally here. He was popular with players when he arrived and was inseparable from Pogba on social media. It wasn't long before he looked like an outcast and if that Matic comment is true he's obviously not missed.
