Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

True. We played him in the wrong system but annoyingly it's not like we've done better since he left — our system is generally a mess so it's hard to say we've bettered ourselves by getting rid just yet.

This to me seems to be the reason for the polarisation. In a year or two we might be saying Lukaku WHO?! but right now we're basically watching our ex enjoying themselves while we silently hate how boring our own life is.
What? We literally made him our main target man. Every ball went to him and all he did was either feck up with a poor first touch/ball control or with a miss.

Just because he's scoring doesn't mean he got better it just means he went to a weaker league. He's still the same fecking donkey

Scoring league goal is one thing. Lukaku can certainly do that and many of them. Although can he carry Belgium to win the European cup?
Did they very well in the world cup with him although I think it was Hazard that was the big star.
I think they might win it and hold them as top 3 favorites for sure. So if they do it might change the view about him.
Although Hazard and De Bruyne will probably take most of the credit.

And should we also ignore that Lukaku has the joint 8th best goal ratio (level with Andy Cole) since the Premier League began despite spending most of it with West Brom and Everton?

Or @GifLord , does it have nothing really to do with his moving to a "weaker league"?

I remember noticing again and again when watching Belgium that both Hazard and de Bruyne often didn't pass to him when it seemed a fairly obvious pass. They know his touch is shoddy and they seemed to have limited trust in him. But in the right setup he can be highly effective of course.

I love a good Lukaku spaz out video as much as anyone, but it has no point in our discussion here in which you reckon he's scoring because he moved to a weaker league.

He'll still have a good spaz out youtube collection in Serie A.
People on here are literally jerking of to Smalling being this demi-god of a defender in Serie A.
Just put 1+1 together and you'll see at what im getting

He is scoring because he moved to a weaker league though. Are you saying the serie a is just as strong and got no bearing on his goal tally?

Behave now mate.

I just showed you that Lukaku is JOINT 8TH in the all time Premier League goalscoring ratio list. Him scoring in Serie A has nothing to do with it being a weaker league man.

What is it with some people on here, you can occasionally just say, "yeah I guess that isn't really true, but I think he's a shite footballer and glad we got rid". Instead you'll just dive deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole no matter how much someone actually proves to you that your post was nonsense.

EPL is extremely weak so it has nothing to do with that. He's playing in a system that suits him together with Lautaro who's a nightmare for defenders. A lot of Serie A teams play very defensively so its not as if scoring against them will be easier than bottom teams in the EPL.

Should not Salah be here? Feels like he is scoring around 0.7 goals per game so far for Pool.

Was he the right fit for us? Most likely no. But the ways some people go to discredit him although every evidence we have points to us being just fecking shit at everything that has to do with creating goal scoring chances is quite something.

Not sure what you mean by 'extremely weak' but i'm looking at the top scorers in Serie A and bar Ronnie they aren't exactly world beaters? Ciro Immobile, Ronaldo, Lukaku , Joao Pedro, Josip Ilicic. Quite frankly I'd be disappointed of Big Rom wasn't up there.

Keep repeating yourself without answering the question is a great tactic.

What question? Is Lukaku scoring because he moved to a weaker league?

No, he's scoring because:

a) he's a goalscorer and was also scoring at a brilliant rate (8th best ever) in the Premier League.

and

b) he's playing for a stronger side, who are coached better and who have a 69% win-rate this season.

This is pretty fecking simple stuff man.

Gotta be over 100 games else some absolute randoms will make it, scoring like 3 in 2.

Salah will be there soon and he'll push Cole and Lukaku down a spot.

Who are these random ones? Pukki? Higuain? Falcao? None of them good enough though. Pukki around Lukaku numbers.
Aubameyang should be on the list too I am sure about. Still two seasons for him. 50 games should be enough to remove one season wonders.

no.

you’re so busy posting meaningless stats that you don’t even bother reading others posts.

I asked, Are you saying the serie a is just as strong and got no bearing on his goal tally?

You want an answer that I don't agree with. You've decided he's scoring more cause he's playing in Serie A, I don't agree. He's scoring because that's what he does and because he's playing in a better performing team.

You are aware that goal scorers tend to score more in better sides that win more often right? Or is that news to you?

I’m not really bothered, but you’re still not reading or answering the question

I have read, and disagree.

Lukaku, if he had moved to Real Madrid or Manchester City this year would also have scored a feck tonne more than he would for an underperforming Manchester United, the guy is a proven Premier League goalscorer and in a team that wins 69% of it's games he's always going to score a feck tonne.

The guy scored 25 league goals for Everton, is Belgium's highest ever scorer, bagged 5 in a single World Cup. He's a goalscorer man. Why on Earth would you wanna spin it any other way?

If the question was "would Lukaku have scored as many league goals this season at Manchester United if we were winning 36% of our games" the obvious answer is no.

I've been reading through some of the post on lukaku and for me I get that he has a very good scoring record in his career around 1 in 2 . For me we will be a better team without Lukaku simply because his all round game isn't great .
My mate is a Everton fan and I always remember when we signed him he said I'm actually glad he is gone . I wondered why because he had a good scoring record but he then said it's so frustrating watching him every week and as a match goer I have to agree .

The guy can score but sweet Christ he is hard to watch 90 % of the time

I think historically it has been harder to score in the Serie A.
Think the top scorers normally do not get as many goals as in the PL. Although it is not the case this season so far.
Could be there is just better quality up front this season with Ronaldo, Lukaku and Immobile. Although Immobile has been there for a long time.
It can be hard to judge on that too since Messi is not scoring as much as usual in La liga. Although from watching I am not seeing amazing defending from the other sides.
Thus it might just be Messi having a tougher season.

PL defenses seem to be decent this year. Although we have still seen some total destruction. 9-0 win and 8-0 so far.
Thus don't feel scoring in the PL is much harder. Teams like Wolves and Sheffield has come from the lower leagues with solid defenses though.
Plus teams like Newcastle pretty much just park the bus against everyone without being actually that good at defending. Although think that could suit Lukaku well to play against.

The only outstanding defense in the PL this season is Liverpools. I would back Lukaku to be able to score against the rest, but mainly against the bottom sides.

You should probably mention he’s the 8th highest goal scoring ratio in the PL of all time.

Mate you are just wasting your time at this point. He is probably still confused why Veron and Shevchenko didn't make it here.
