Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

Who needs to watch Inter when you have this thread?

The fact is he wasnt good enough for us. He didn't succeed under the manager who was in charge when the club spent 75 million on him and he was shite when Ole took over. If we replaced him with a striker who is somewhat renowned for scoring (Mandzukic, Vardy etc....) then this thread would go unnoticed.

Of course this thread would carry on. We’ve some fans who really hold a grudge against him, it’s pretty pathetic, but each to their own. Not sure what they were expecting, he’s a goal scorer who needs a team built around his strengths. Neither Jose nor Ole managed that.

Inappropriate Behavior
We have a moron of an ex Molde and Cardiff manager sadly.

I rather see Martial up front than him, we should have bought another striker of course but with Lukaku it didn't work. Also it's funny blaming our medical department on his diet. If he decides to eat unhealthy they sure as hell cant make him to to otherwise.
In any case we can blame Cardiff for that too.

Thread carries on cause every time he scores there are guys who are happy to point that out.

Not liking the manager is fine but is this necessary ?

I don't rate Lukaku but as I said in a previous post. The former manager of Molde and Cardiff naively dismantled the team without making sure that the player's he's selling were replaced first. Also as posted in a post you quoted Rashy is not a natural scorer. In fact people who actually trained the guy (ie Mou) believe he's more comfortable as a Left inside forward. Which really makes me wonder here by selling Lukaku and bringing no one did Cardiff started the season without a striker? In that case he's more naive and a train wreck then I previously thought.

You see I am not the guy who is enjoying this season despite us not making more signings. Maybe you can explain if you're still enjoying this trashing.

So you honestly think that we should have kept Lukaku on the bench (costing us around 100 million this year) even though he clearly didn’t want to be here? The player that you called a donkey should be kept around even though he’s not good enough?

If the alternative would be starting with either no striker or not an adequate cover for that striker then I would have surely kept him and I would have expected him to act professionally. We kept players against their will (ex Ronaldo, DDG) at a time we were way better off then we are now. Its not ideal but sometimes things don't work out the way you want.

Alternatively we should have either gone for Haller or we should have arm wrestled Inter to a loan with right to buy at the end of the season for Icardi. I know he comes with baggage but I assure you talent wise he's better then Lukaku is and he's got one hell of a point of proof. Whatever happened we shouldn't have started the season with just Rashford upfront especially since, by the looks of it, he's more comfortable on the flanks than upfront.

100m make look a solid fee but when one consider how much sponsorship money we might lose if we're out of Europe then its not as big as one might think. Also why should Ole put finances above football issues? Is he the Glazer's puppet or something?

Getting a lack of flack from inter fans I believe for his general play?
Mostly because of his (non)performances against juventus and dortmund honestly
He's been absolutelly horrendous before he scored that goal. Also how badly Godin's declined :wenger:
He was pretty good yesterday in the first 30 minutes or so. Once Brescia started to take over he disappeared along with the rest of inter, until his solo wondergoal which was the kind of stuff inter would want out of their 70m signing. Won them a game they looked increasingly unlikely to win

And that's the issue for Lukaku, while he is a good player, he isn't a great player and his shortcomings are very obvious which brings a lot of attention to his performances when he doesn't score but he is treated by some as if he was a great player. In a way you could compare him to players like Chicharito, Defoe or Robbie Keane, in a big club they are role players that will provide the needed goals against average and bad teams when your top players are resting or out of form.

The obsession with Lukaku's performances in Inter is slightly confusing to me. He is playing in a completely different team and league - it's not like he is tearing it up for a league rival or anything.

It was pretty clear that he did not fit our style of play, and I am certainly not missing his first touch messing up our play or his incessant pointing to where he wanted the ball. Lukaku is the type of player than can be effective if his team is creating chances - which is exactly what our struggle has been. I don't see how he would have improved us drastically.

In the end we got a good price for a player that did not look like a long-term solution. That he is doing okay in Inter doesn't change that.

I think its simply because we didn't replace him. He's a good goal poacher and he's better than nothing at all.

But it is not as simple as that.

No we didn't replace him. In an ideal world we would have.

But it's not as simple as just saying 'We need someone let's keep Lukaku.' There are a myriad of pros and cons. Just a few in thirty seconds here.

Pro - We would have had an extra player
We have had an injury crisis in attacking players
Lukaku is a natural goal scorer.

Con -We would have paid 100 million to have him here.
We had no way of knowing if we would get so many injuries.
He would mean Martial is out of position
He had started to speak out about his position
His style of play didn't suit us.

Now we can talk about replacing him, but again, we didn't get this done till after the transfer deadline. Could we have sold him earlier and got a replacement? Again it's hard to tell. What is Inter were offering us ten million less at the start of July? Would it be worth it to sell him for less money and as a result impact our future selling potential with other players? Did we have someone lined up who backed out?

In the short term it looks to have hurt us. As we progress - who knows?

I dont distrust Ole when he says that in order to give Greenwood serious playing time we needed to cut down on our forward numbers. He is not wrong either, if one thinks that Greenwood is ready is another matter. Ole seems to think so.
You cant really have both though, either you give Greenwood a more prominent role in the squad or you get a replacement for Lukaku which would steal serious minutes from Greenwood, and he would better off on loan instead.
I am not that bothered by not replacing Lukaku, we have a really exciting emerging frontline now. Plus we were unlucky with Martial getting injured. Add Sancho in the summer and we will be fine up front.
I am more bothered about not doing something/anything about the midfield this summer. Midfield will have to go through a real overhaul next summer when Matic leaves. And its not a good idea to leave that to one window, when we could at least has started recruiting this summer.

Rooney was 17 when he rose to prominence and after that spectacular goal against Arsenal no one at Everton, United and with England could send him back on the bench. If a kid is good enough then he will win his place. Therefore you add what you need and give Greenwood a fair shot. If he's good enough or he's ready then he'll win his place. If not then he'll sit in the reserves until he is or he's sent on loan.

Some people seem to forget that we're Manchester United. We can afford to buy a striker only to sell him IF suddenly there's someone better in the team. We did that in the past multiple times. For example we bought Smith despite having our sight on Rooney as well. The latter made it the former didn't. Its the price to move to a big club. FFS we allowed an English international RB walk on free because Sir Alex believed that Gaz was ready.

Wait, isn't this an obvious sarcasm? I mean we know Ban and all.

His overall play is still awful but he always score goals at any level

I think the point is if you are going to get rid of Lukaku don’t rely on a player who has a worst goals to game ratio as your main striker.

I slated Lukaku a lot of here, I didn’t think he was good enough to play as a CF for Manchester United, much like Fellaini. But if you sell those players and don’t replace them with anything we would be better off just keeping with what we had.
But it wasnt the goals, it was his general play that was the problem. Its not as if Lulaku scored so many that it made up the difference.
Anyway, Mertial is his replacement, not Marcus.

It means he was banned I believe. He really paid the price for his sarcasm not being understood this time.

but his profile is still active. Probably only a short term ban.

He went too far, calling our manager like that.

To me it looked sarcastic. He actually didn’t mean to call him a moron. At least that’s what i think.

Mate it's Ban. 99% of his posts here are sarcastic. Have been since Mourinho days. The rest of his post says it. It's misunderstood sarcasm.

doesnt matter. Some words on here should not be used to describe posters or players/managers. We are in a tricky situation, you run the risk of a lot of members, non members and mods not liking it. Sarcasm has limits as well

was it his/her fingers bypassing their brain and acting independently? Is he/she now the victim?
They typed it and posted it, so knew exact what they were doing.

Let's be honest in terms of words, there are worse words that were used to describe the previous managers while they were here and even current players, so for him to be banned for a sarcasm, feels very harsh for me.

Anyway think we shouldn't deviate from the topic further. Though from now on everyone of us should be aware when they write any sarcastic comment to make it clear. :nervous:

Listen I think it was posted as a sarcastic take on all the personal abuse that has been directed at ole this season on here by the fans. And if he was banned for calling ole a moron then there should be a lot of bans handed out for way worse things being said about ole.

There is quite a few others on here have done worse by name calling and trying to start arguments because you don't agree with what they are saying.

Just an example of the things directed towards ole.

Maybe bad example considering that poster is banned permanently.

I agree with the initial post, @Ban post was sarcastic but he does it all the time. Maybe this is just a warning sign to stop doing it.

How do you know?
Listen, you don’t know unless you’re ban or a relation of theirs.

People have a right to their own opinions, but the forum is going really down hill recently. Full of negativity and non stop trash talk whether for Ole, Pogba or the team in general. It's getting old and boring.

Everybody is frustrated and want to get back to our old ways of winning, but it's not a magic click of the fingers.

His post history. Fairly out of character for Ban, a guy who actually doesn't have a negative opinion of manager Ole, to say that seriously. Plus, he has history with that kind of posts. I think that might be why he was banned actually, not the calling Ole a moron part

If he deserved to be banned for that post, then a lot of posters must be flying pretty close to the Sun too. Some of the things I've seen said about Ole and others is unbelievable.
