Romelu Lukaku | Napoli watch

I recall him complaining about racism in Italy few seasons back. He might want to miss Inter games this season I reckon.

Jose would sign anyone as long as it means a body in. Me thinks a meltdown is incoming for old Jose.

Italy is a strange place with racism. I’m mates with an ex black footballer’s brother. He raved about his time in Italy. Said they treated him so well, even not knowing he was a footballer. The small things like getting a taxi, being treated like an equal, Italy trumps England in that regard. England think they are above the world in this but we’re horrible. Yes Italy have issues with hooligans and racism in football, but out of football they are ahead of us.

Say what you want about Lukaku, has any of our players took a near 200k a week wage drop, if wages are to be believed, our ex captain would need take note

I have some sympathy for Lukaku, his ego, his drive and basically living his career as a series of bad love breakups (Roméo... heh). Props for cutting his salary if true.
But I know which one of those two is the most massively disruptive in a squad and we're better with the Harr'.

Lukaku is also taking full advantage of the lower tax rate in Italy so the actual drop in net salary is a lot lower. Roma are reportedly paying him €7.5M/y net while his £325K/wk gross salary at Chelsea would have amounted to somewhere around £9M (= 10.5M€) after taxes.

Still a big drop mind you, but nowhere near as dramatic as cutting near 200K/wk.

What can go wrong? just a matter of time until he ruins the club from within

Wouldn't discount Lukaku doing very good for 6 months or a year.
The man is a modern day drifter, he'll move within two years.

He's the least clutch big name striker of all time.

Well I enjoyed that immensely. What a cnut!

If we brought him back, I actually think he could do a job for us. He's got the physicality for the Premier League, and has been a proven goalscorer. I say we pay whatever they want and bring him in

He has to be the most frustrating player at the minute.
Goes from the sublime to the ridiculous in a heartbeat.

He was a bit unlucky today, but honestly, in big meaningful games I’d struggle to think of a big name striker I’d have less confidence in.

I really dont like him as a player, and despite his overall good record I think he is not prolific with the amount of chances he gets. All that said, I strangely agree with you. Criteria for a striker this summer would be, assuming Hojlund is the plan, a player who can do a decent job when called upon for 2 seasons or so, premier league proven, and wouldnt cost a fortune.

EDIT: just saw white text

Say what you want about him but he’s a sponge for chances and if not for a tight offside and a ridiculous handball decision, he would have had two goals. Also linked up well a few times in the second half. He is not half as bad as the Caf thinks he is. There’s a reason he has scored so many goals all his career.

I was waiting for someone to bite, but that's not the response I expected!
Sure, he has pedigree, but he'd be an awful signing on personality alone. That, and he's a donkey

Dude has nearly 400 career goals, and a better goal ratio than Cristiano at international level.

Best example in the sport of goal numbers being vastly overrated. And international records being super inflated, Mitrovic has the same ratio as Ronaldo by the way.

Ya like I say, I really dont like him and probably cant forgive how he let himself go in those final months at united. It was disgraceful. If he hadnt left such a sour taste here, I think people might want another look, purely based on the criteria above of looking for a senior striker to give another option from hojlund, without stifling hojlunds progress. Also in a summer where budget is tight, if chelsea were very keen to let go for a low fee then its another temptation. Cant see it to be honest, but wouldnt be as averse as I thought I would.
