Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea

I'm assuming this is in response to my views on Rashford. I'm not totally against stats, it just gets irritating when posters use Rashford's stats as a way of absolving him of any criticism. You can criticise Lukaku's weaknesses by all means but he was voted Serie A's MVP and led Inter to a first title in a decade. Surely that's more meaningful than a meme video?.

He got MVP because he had good stats (and Inter winning the league)

I agree about meme video, it can be created for any player.

Lets see how he plays, he has improved for sure but not like what this thread (or few Chelsea/ManUtd fans) wants everyone to believe. He still has the same issues, he is fitter which helps his balance. So less awkward moments compared to this time at ManUtd.

How much have Chelsea paid on centre forwards now? and only Costa + Drogba have been successes. I do think Lukaku will join that list, though.

I would think at least for this year our rivals hope he is at least a little successful so Roman does not get motivated to go after Haaland next year. :D

If you had any chance of getting Haaland next year you wouldn't be spending 115m euros on a center piece type striker.

You’d only miss out on him, if he was interested in you, you would have waited.

I would take Lukaku back in a hearbeat at United. He was scapegoated a lot which in turn his mood turned sour and his form went out the window. We seem to forget that he was pushing for a move away, we didn’t necessarily boot him out.
We have seen it many times before with great players when they want to leave. Form drops completely. I would bet Harry Kane might not be in the form of his life next season if he stays at Spurs.

He wanted to leave because he knew he wasn't in Ole's plans

If he felt the love I'm sure he'd of stayed

Please provide me with your proof to make this conclusion. It sounds like revisionism by someone who scapegoated him.

I agree with the general point you're making but this Lukaku is a lot better than the version we signed from Everton. His hold up play is much better and he's lethal running in from the channels. He'll also be playing in a similar system to what he did at Inter and Belgium so the goal tally might be similar but his general game play is much better.

When he was here, absolutely correct but he's able to play more intricate stuff now. He's by no means Berbatov and still has horrendous touches at times but I've seen him link up much better with teammates at Inter and Belgium than he ever did with us. Who's to say he won't improve even further with Tuchel's coaching.
That’s because it’s a lesser league with a slower pace. For all his time in England he has always been as clumsy and agricultural on the ball. Lukaku isn’t an unknown factor coming to England, we now exactly what he is.

You're wasting your time, give it 6 months and Chelsea fans will be spewing about his control, link up play and contributions against the big teams. Right now they're trying to convince themselves they've signed peak fat Ronaldo because he spent a year in a league with a handful of decent teams.

Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he made his decision to leave Manchester United as early as March last season, with the Belgian keen for a fresh start somewhere else because he wasn’t in good form nor playing regularly at Old Trafford.

"I'm not playing well, so I'm leaving" - Elite mentality right there.

I would add Anelka, Crespo and Eto'o to the list.

You guys have had some proper legendary strikers, and almost none of them have been as good as they should have been. So weird.

The Chelsea fans on here will never admit anything is less than perfect, Lampard was still the next big thing in football management until the day he was sacked

Yes we just scapegoated him. He’s the best striker we’ve ever had.

There are so many big buys this summer that have me genuinely curious about how they will fit it!

Lukaku could bag an absolute tonne of goals at Chelsea, but how will Grealish, Varane & Sancho do?...its really exciting to see who will be the best buy come the end of the season.

I'd imagine Chelsea fans are feeling excited when looking at his highlights. It's only when you've to watch him week in week out that it becomes apparent how limited he is outside of the games against cannon fodder. Will forward to seeing the realisation unfold.

You do realise we've been having the Lukaku conversation for over ten years, far longer than United fans.

The "loan him back to Anderlecht" debate, the amateur West Brom and Everton "loan watch" scouting, The touch compilations. The Lukaku vs Costa argument. The Timberland boots and jeans memes. The "why does he keep pointing at open spaces, even when the pass isn't on - put your hands away, you great big wassock" comments.

At this point, I don't think there's any "realisation" to be had. He either sinks or swims, and the bar for Chelsea strikers is not the highest.

The ironic thing Is, I was pointing out Lukaku flaws here when you had him and I faced a firing squad, which included some members commenting on this thread.

2 years down the line, Lukaku will be telling how he always wanted to play in French league.

But overall, I think he will be ok-ish. Given that Werner is not scoring at all, Lukaku will be touch better. I don't think he will be super crap.
What surprised me at United was how Lukaku could be dispossessed and even pushed off the ball by guys that appear tiny in front of him. He needs to play in a lot more protected league to score lots.

Those fans exist in every fan base mate. I was never sold on him to be honest. Solid striker and I'm sure he'll do well for Chelsea as he's better than what you've currently got but those 3 goals against West Brom won't make up for him stepping on the ball when the's through on goal against Liverpool

#Lukaku at Linate, before leaving for London: "Greetings to the # Inter fans who wanted me to stay? I'll send a message in a few days "

Except they actually WILL make up for it. That’s exactly how football works. You don’t get extra points for scoring against the bigger teams. If Chelsea right now were offered 25 goals in the PL from him this season but none against the big six, they would bite your arm off!

You don't get more points because your £100m striker scores 2 goals when you're already winning 2-0, that's still 3 points. Lukaku never comes through when you need the goals.

Imagine you are Romelu Lukaku and you check out Redcafe for fun, only to find out that crossy1868 butchers you performance down to scoring irrelevant goals as a Striker.
