Romelu Lukaku | Chelsea

People aren't taking into style of play. Part of the reason he looked so good for Inter is because they played 5 at the back and hit on the counter, which Lukaku thrives at. It'll be similar at Chelsea. They're basically signing a left footed version of werner that can actually finish.

Against teams that sit back he'll look crap because intricate play was never a good part of his game, but give him space to run into and balls to finish and he'll do well. If it was United re-signing him for £100m to play in a 4-3-3 it would be a terrible idea, but for Chelsea it may just work out well.

Under Tuchel last season we did excellently against all the top teams. Won most of those games and even kept clean sheets in nearly all of them. The problem for us was against the shite sides of the league where we allowed them hang around and hang around and then get sucker punched because we couldn’t put away the many chances we had to score. Being so awful in front of goal gives even terrible opponents confidence that they can beat you.

So if Lukaku is simply a flat track bully who beats up on the minnows of the league as Redcafe says I think most Chelsea supporters would take that. We lost to some truly shocking sides last season because of our horrendous finishing. Lukaku hopefully remedies that.

We ain’t asking him to be Messi who picks the ball up on halfway and dribbles past 4 players.

Yeah you'll be satisfied since the bar was set so low by Werner (6 in 35!). But £100m though, fecking hell! He'll be scrutinized for every touch.

Lukaku is very good but not top class. We know this very well by now. He will be a much more reliable goalscorer than Werner though so it is understandable as a deal, but more than anything it shows the scarcity of strikers that are available.

Slightly surprised that Chelsea have the second best xG in the league since Tuchel took over. Less surprised that they have underperformed it massively, scoring 25 goals from an expected 38.

Getting a goalscorer in really is massive for them, even someone who "only" tends to score against weaker teams.

Lakaku has failed his Chelsea medical after doctors were unable to find his touch.

Imagine you are Romelu Lukaku and you check out Redcafe for fun, only to find out that crossy1868 butchers you performance down to scoring irrelevant goals as a Striker.
Knowing him, if he did see that, he'd make an Instagram post comparing himself to all the other strikers at Chelsea and tag me in it.

I am going to play devil’s advocate here. One could argue that you created all those chances which you couldn’t ultimately put away because of your technically sound football players which a flat track bully would not be. If you add something and remove something you don’t know what the final product will look like.

Bingo, we have seen it happen in even better teams than Chelsea and with more proven players than Lukaku. He could be a success or he could throw the team off balance, I think this is one the transfers where both possibilities are equal.

This is a key point. Its far too simplistic to say 'Chelsea's missed chances + Lukaku = more goals'. What we saw at United was a player with a very poor first touch and a sub-par ability to execute passes and that undoubtedly impacted on our team as an attacking unit.

Not really. He scored one goal against Juventus his entire stay in Italy, a penalty that he had nothing to do with winning. That and his performances at the business end of their European campaigns are why Inter fans are happy to see him go for a monster fee. I watch Inter almost every week. He's the same player we let go.
What :eek:which inter fans are those :lol::lol:

The ones i work with and play football with every week, i live in Milan. They're happy with the team for winning the league but they know Lukaku is not perfect, once mega money was on the table they were content to let him go. Lautaro is the player that's really loved.

Surely they’re selling him because they have no other choice with their owners in serious financial trouble. The club they owned in China won the league last season then immediately folded.

“Last season was phenomenally successful for Zhang on the pitch as his Chines Super League Jiangsu Sining won the Chinese Super League and Inter Milan won Serie A. However, as soon as they won the league Zhang disbanded the club as Suning’s financial situation collapsed.”

I'm going out on a limb here and say either you're making this up or your friends and co-workers are the odd ones here

Most probably those Milan guys wear red and black and happy to see their local rivals' leading scorer moved away from rivals. Similarly chelsea will be happy if Spurs sold kane.

I kinda get Chelsea's logic behind this. It has a history of becoming a graveyard for good strikers. But Lukaku had already been dead at United so technically he will never die again, dispelling the graveyard effect. I knew Roman was into dark magic, spells or some bullshit like that.

Has he learned how to receive the ball yet?

On a more serious note, for such a big guy over 190 cm and with his his muscle mass, how long can he stay sharp? For sure he's at the top of his career and I guess his value isn't all that unreasonable in todays market but to me it seems like a big risk spending 100m plus however much on salaries on a player which they probably wont be able to move until his contract is up.

One where the overwhelming majority of inter fans are apoplectic and want suning gone over this

So a few thousand miles away somewhere, then?

I'm not saying they don't like him and want him gone. I'm saying every Inter fan i know can see he does have flaws, and when there is the prospect of 100m+ euros that could be spent on other players, they're ok with that.

Inter fans are defacing posters of Lukaku in Milan. You don't do that unless you are butt hurt about them going.

They're painting over them to erase him from the club's history. They don't like the way he has handled it. A few days ago he was saying how he loved Inter, then he came out and said he wanted to go to Chelsea.

Your friends are uninformed. This frees up maybe €30-35m for Inter once their other obligations are taken care of.

Part of the initial protests were started when the owner was very honest that most of the Lukaku money would go to paying down debt.

So Roma magically descends and takes Tammy off Chelsea's hands for an almost club record fee and offsets the amount that they agreed to pay for Lukaku in the Covid market.

So normal!!!

Mourinho is probably still on Roman's payroll.

No, in the city, where inter fans are on the verge of rioting against the ownership(and would, if it weren't august and the city wasn't half empty)
