Just saw the Bertrand kung-fu kick on Romelu. How they feck are we not hearing more about that twatish attempt from Bertrand ?
Absolute joke.

What are peoples take on selling him now? Surely people aren't that easily swayed in two games cause it's got awfully quiet? Not read any Donkey comments?

He's improved immesively since Ole has taken over. Not just goals but link up play and being played in non familiar positions and he still looks for different ways to contribute . 2 assists vs Arsenal, amazing through ball to lingard againt livepool, game winning goals vs Southampton. Shows he's got more to him than what he shows

I still think selling is the best option because i prefer a front three of Martial/Rashford+ new right sided attacker. His big price tag + wages might be a bit too much to keep on the bench if the transferfee + wages can be better used to get a new rb/midfielder/right sided attacker.

If he continues to score, not sure he'll be on the bench. You would have to trust that Martial and Rashford do something haven't done and consistently score goals. Also the ability to play well consistently and play injury free. I get what you are saying but we aren't West Ham who have to balance the books to buy/ sell, if we got 70m for him, would make any difference on our transfer strategy, selling players never have.

He's a quality striker - a 1 in 2 player for the majority of his career.

And he's probably (along with Pogba) the player who's form suffered the most with Mourinho's losing of the plot.

He's a better CF than Rashford in my opinion. It's just that his worst run of form coincided with Rashford's best - but both in form, Rom is the better CF.

For me a front 3 of Rashford, Martial, Rom is the way to go.

Or a front 2 of Rashford and Rom.

Because Lukaku didn't start rolling around. And then people complain/wonder when players milk tackles. Absolutely disgraceful knee high lunge and the ref didn't even send him off because Lukaku played on.

Because he's massive and didn't even feel it. Most of others would be snapped in half and the ref would have shown a red. Happens all the time and everybody knows that yet they do nothing about it. Likewise, Fellaini was often punished for aerial duels or strong players for shoulder-to-shoulder challenges towards weaker ones. The only notable event I remember was when Valencia used his strength to brush off Baines at OT some years ago which resulted in a goal. Was sure at the time it would be called a foul but thankfully it wasn't.

Still think he's got to prove himself. It's good he's scoring again but he needs to keep up the goal rate until the end of the season and then have a huge summer of preparation, he needs to be way more involved in overall play to lead the line for us as our main striker. Personally i think Rashford will develop into a second striker/wide forward and Lukaku will leave in a year or two, and we'll bring someone new in. He won't take sitting on the bench and we shouldn't be willing to keep him there, and i don't see the ability in him to be a consistent threat against all teams. We need someone on a Sergio Aguero level.

That saying, it should be zoomed into and discussed post game but obviously it wasn't. He did get yellow so now they can't do anything about that I guess? The lino bottled it and should've immediately pointed out the the main ref that it's a straight red. I guess he didn't because if he did and it was ignored, then you can do as much.

Barcelona are regularly having a 100m player on the bench, City have how many 50-60m players on their bench? Real with Bale also. Chelsea just sent their 65m striker on loan. And we can't keep a 75m striker on the bench sometimes? Get over it, we can do whatever we want as long as the squad is managed properly and all of them get game time and are happy.

His movement has improved. He knows he will not play if he's static.

I want him to be instructed to target Kimpembe

I can understand he was a off form during the first game but I wanted him to start over Rashford as the central striker - or atleast a striker to kind of shock their CB's.

They are used to defending against strikers like Rashford, Martial - the mbappe or Neymar mould of an attacker. I wanted Lukaku to start and just make that defensive aspect a bit harder for them by atleast providing some constant physical work to deal with in and around their box.

So I am actually not to frustrated about martial or Lingard not starting for us - because I don't see them having the ability to score 2 goals against PSG and their technically specified defence. Lukaku on the other hand gives me some hope for doing some dirty work for us.

Let's sell all our 'not good enough for a starter but still useful' players and then complain we've got no cover for the first-team attackers. Logic. Look at the top teams. They all have similar level (or better) options on the bench.

Nailed it. Going by what I read I would've thought the squads of top teams consist of 11 WC players and the bargains on the bench.

Oh i dont mind having a expensive player on the bench but i would prefer to have quality on the pitch before getting expensive players to sit on the bench. You kinda do need expensive players on the bench these days anyway. If selling Lukaku helps to replace Lingard with a really good right sided attacker i would gladly sell him.

Lukaku is a difficult player.. he usually scores goals and, yes he sometimes does good things in the build up, but he also misses big chances (chances a pure goalscorer really shouldnt miss that often) or ruins promising attacks because of his lack of a good first touch.

I never called him a useless donkey but if he was sold to improve the team in other places i wouldnt mind at all. If he stays and keeps scoring goals i also wouldnt mind... if he stays and plays like he did earlier this season i want him out today.

I also have to admit that he isnt really my "type" of player. I do prefer a more footballing type of player instead of the power and pace type of player Lukaku is.

We need the best striker in the league level? Easy then? Does Rashford or Martial need to do the same then? Aren't the expectations the same for all the strikers including scoring goals?

Fair admission and I like my forward to score goals.

This is what I don't get. If we are going to bin Lukaku because he is not Aguero, then fair enough. And who are we going to get that is Aguero level? Because we have no strikers at Aguero's level at the club right now.

He did the same against arsenal last year man. His game hasn't changed for years, just different elements of it get more exposure in different situations

I've always been a huge fan and still am. Nothing has changed, just back out of a bad spell with a bang. I've been away this weekend but think I saw he's on the list of top 10 scorers? Not bad for a 25-year-old. Haven't read but he must be one of the youngest if not the youngest to make the list? His scoring record is unbelievable considering his age and that most of his career has been playing at clubs outside the top 6. Hoping he can really kick on now.

That's what it comes down to. I can just about tolerate the heavy touch and lack of finesse, if he actually moves and puts a proper shift in. Lose weight if it helps. My biggest criticism is lack of movement and graft.

There were still times when he was static. Pereira being hounded by two defenders on the touchline adjacent to their box and Lukaku as the closest player stood expecting a miracle. Pereira was dispossessed when he was desperate for an outlet and that Lund of brainless forward play isn't good enough given it's a basic.

I just wish he'd stop fecking pointing. Everytime he fecks up a pass or a touch he just stands stock still with both arms outstretched gesturing to whoever is closest to him that it's their fault for not being there. He does it even when the ball is still in play. It really winds me up because I feel like he's trying to play up to the crowd and say "look it's not my fault the attack broke down, it's his!"

If we want to win the league and get back to where we were then yes, we need the best striker in the league, or close to it. Van Persie, Berbatov, Rooney, Ronaldo, van Nistelrooy, Yorke, Cole, Cantona. We have always had absolutely brilliant strikers leading our line. In fact before Moyes turned up you had to go back 17 years to find more than one season where we didn't have a 20+ goal striker. We've had 3 in the 5 years since. Unless things change we're currently on course for 4 in 6.

Like i say i don't think Rashford will make it here as an out and out striker, and neither will Martial. They will be second strikers or wide forwards. Lukaku's biggest problem is he doesn't add much beyond goals. Strikers go through bad patches but when he is in one it's like playing with 10 men. We need someone who can interlink with the team so when they're not scoring they're still effective and the team can still play.

I will keep hoping for a striker who has high footballing ability and will score goals. Those players are pretty rare though... City is very lucky that they have Aguero.

Maybe Greenwood can be that striker one day.. he seems to be getting a lot of hype and i seem a lot of "Robin van Persie mk.2"

Not true. To win the league we need a side that can consistently generate chances and score goals. Having the best striker or a striker on the shortlist would help your chances, but it's not the prerequisite you make it out to be. We've won the league before without having a dominant out and out striker. Saha in 06-07. And Ronaldo rarely played as a striker with us.

In 06-07 we had Ronaldo and Rooney both score 20+ goals. Saha barely played.

You don't need a dominant out and out striker but if you don't have one you do need an incredible front line of other types of players. Those two were coming into world class territory that season. Lukaku isn't doing that with his level of technical ability, he's probably only ever going to be an out and out striker.

He showed this last season though... I don’t understand...

How many defence splitting passes did he give last season like the one we saw at Liverpool home or Arsenal . Maybe few crosses but that's it . I certainly think playing in the wings had some positive effect on him .

Newcastle and Leicester away from the top of my head... they were just not converted.

Not in the league. And Saha played many games that season, especially in the first half.

Agreed on the second bolded, but then why are we... focusing on Lukaku only, as if he is the weak point of the front line we have? Some may think he is, but if you can tell me with a straight face that our attack sans Lukaku is that level of incredible, then fair enough.
