Thought we missed his physical presence tonight. Against deep teams the pacey forwards have less space for effectiveness. Boly and Coady are strong centre backs that he could have troubled and Rashford could have run off him. I definitely don’t think we should sell him in the summer.

He was rubbish for months and we were all convinced Rashford is our best striker. Now it's turning the other way. All I take from it is our players are consistently inconsistent and we're in need of a striker who is superior to the pair of them.

I think if we play to Rashford's strengths again he'll look better. He always always looks better up front with people flying around on the wings. He needs a rest though.
He rarely looks good when people are static beside him or if he's playing to the side.
It always showed in his England performances where he'd look quality, then back to rubbish in Jose's setup.

At least he's got a rest from international duty. Hopefully back for Watford.

Because Aguero is the standard, and we are Manchester United. We have always had, and should always have, at least one of the top two or three strikers in the league. Our top scorers from our PL winning sides:

Robin van Persie
Wayne Rooney
Dimitar Berbatov
Cristiano Ronaldo
Ruud van Nistelrooy
Teddy Sheringham
Dwight Yorke
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer
Eric Cantona
Mark Hughes

Every one of those can be mentioned in the same breath as Aguero. Note that while not all of them were prolific scorers, they were all brilliant footballers who could be the difference in the tightest games, just like Aguero. If we want to be the club we once were that is absolutely the standard we should aspire to.

You can win a league with a Player like Lukaku. Also Rooney isn't better than Lukaku sorry not sorry.

The disrespect given to Lukaku here is criminal and it's sad. The guy is already a living legend in his national team, one of the overall top goalscorers in the prem. This isn't some average player that you are talking about. He may not be the best or world class but you can use him in a title winning side.

And to the person who commented about Vardy, the dude is a pace merchant and scores against big sides because many of the big sides leicester play against give him the space to use his pace.

I will also leave with this. If you can't work with what you have and disrespect players that have qualities you can't even see, you don't deserve a world class striker or world class players and the team will continue to be a club about history or banter.

People need to stop living in the past and realize that you have to work with what you have. There aren't many strikers on the market that are better than Lukaku and if you use what you already have properly and put him in a good environment he will have more vital events. This is the exact reason why players who haven't done well here in recent years have done well elsewhere. Toxicity, not just from the administration but portions of the fans as well.

Eh what ?! Whatever your opinion on Lukaku being positive or negative that bold part can't be true ?

Even the current MLS Rooney isn't far behind Lukaku.

At their primes Rooney destroys Lukaku and it's not even close. Stop looking at goals only.

At one point Rooney could dribble, pass long and short and creative, and shoot all at a world class level.

I think Rooney at his best was better than Lukaku is now, but the argument that you can't win a title with Lukaku has always been massively flawed. Of course you can, as long he is in a team that complements him (both ways of course). Teams with worse records than him have won the league.

The fwck is Lukaku better than Rooney - the guy isn't even at the same level as him.

As usual the ying and yang balance comes from underrating alongside overrating.

Buy a nice bottle of wine, put on youtube and enjoy coming up to date with Rooney videos, because you have obviously not witnesed this man’s career since his screamer against Arsenal. You’re probably going to need another bottle, btw.

Awful start to your redcafe career. You're going to want to start a new account then tour those YouTube clips @cathari suggested. Once you're repentant go to a church to see if any reverend is willing to hear you confess this sin then return

Agreed. I'm yet to see suggestions from people who think rashford/lukaku as our striking options arent good enough...who would you buy this summer who is realistically available and would be much better than the two?

You would think we have haris seferovic as our CF the way some people talk. (sry haris):)

Pretty much stopped reading your reply after this. Rooney is one of the best players this club has ever seen. It's not even close enough to be a matter of opinion or debate, if you think Lukaku is at his level then football might not be the sport for you.

Using the phrase sorry not sorry makes me think you are too young to have seen Rooney at his best.

I mean I’m a big fan of Lukaku but yeah, no. Lukaku might be a better goal scorer but in terms of the other aspects of football Rooney was something special for the majority of his career.

Better goalscorer than our and englands all time record goal scorer?

Lukaku in the form of the last few weeks is a very go striker though, i hope he can continue this sort of form for the rest of the season. Lukaku in bad form is very very bad...this' maybe the one similarity to rooney;)

Yeah I’d say he is. Lukaku is the fastest foreigner to a century in the prem and was 230 something days off of the speed Rooney did it when he, Rooney played in a vastly superior team.

As a footballer Rooney blows the socks off of Lukaku but as a goal scorer think i’d Give the edge to Lukaku on that.

I think the guy meant Lukaku is better than current Rooney. No way is he talking about prime Rooney.

That's laughable. Lukaku would score 50 in the MLS. Rooney in his prime is not comparable though.

Prime Rooney (04-12) is miles better than any Lukaku. That goes without saying. You could make an argument that he is our best striker ever.

Rooney from 13-18? No thanks. He was painful to watch, save for a few good moments. Anyone in their right mind would choose Lukaku over that version of Rooney.

What? Rooney was a far better player than Lukaku (unless you mean his last season for us). It's not even close, Rooney was at one time one of the top players in the world.

Luakaku is painful to watch too at times. This season he has 15 goals. In Rooney's final 5 seasons he was averaging that.

I swear there's no pleasing any of you guys. Seems like ye go all out of your way to keep thinking "He's not a good striker or United quality" blah blah blah. Just shut the hell up . He scores goals, when he comes off the bench, he scores goals. Or creates plenty of assists and chances. It seems like no matter what he does, you're mind will never change. You can't just flip flop you're opinions every single Match. He could score a hat trick one game and in the next match, he could assist a goal and still you'd complain about him not scoring.

Wolves 2:1 Man Utd
He’s shit, and anyone still under the pretence that he isn’t so they look like a better or more intelligent fan needs to wake up.
He fecks up bread and butter stuff in nearly every game.

And anyone looking to shout ‘agenda’ can look at what I used to say about him.

Gets into good positions constantly but really doesn't do enough when he does. Could have won us the match in the first half.

Jimenez is genuinely a beer striker. Holds the ball up 10x better, plays well with his back to goal. Plays one two with pass and runs off him.

We only had one pass and move off the striker today, when Martial and Pogba did it. Pogba decided to shoot stupidly and wide.

People say we got robbed with the Sanchez deal but forget the day light robbery of the century. £75 million rising to £90 million.
