If you look at his career he scores in clusters and has long patches without goals, fortunately he seems to be hitting a cluster at the right time for us, as his actual performance today was littered with technically poor and sloppy play, but he took both goals very well so I gave him MOTM.

Resilient performance, I don’t think I’m being harsh when I say we could have got a 2-0 lead in the beginning of the game if he was more clinical. But he took his chances at the end.

4 exceptional strikers goals this week, really high level finishing. Still had a ton of awful moments but he won us that game, kept going and taking his shirt off was probably him showing that the weight is coming off, he is feeling better, more confident and is showing his worth.

No I won't, because i was defending Lukaku for months while he was getting abused on here. He was a striker at an all time low of confidence under the previous manager, being misused as a target man. Everyone got a clean slate on here except for him it seems. A firing Lukaku is a very good striker just below the world class level. He absolutely has a place in our team. Posters would be like vultures in this thread, just waiting for a misplaced pass or touch and get a gif of it. It was pathetic.

That's pretty much a vintage Lukaku performance right there. Poor for large stretches of the game, then a 15 minute burst where he looks fantastic and scores a top class goal. Then back to being "meh", then pops up with a world class strike to win the game.
As long as he's finishing like that I can deal with the downsides. Also, since when did he get a right foot? That's three top quality right footed goals in a row, when before I could hardly pick out a single right footed finish of real quality from him. It really adds to his game.

People saying this guy is not good enough for Manchester United, amaze me. At the very least, he is more than good enough for our bench. Too quick and too strong for most defenders. 113 goals in the premier league. Top 20 striker in the league's history. Belgium's all time best hit man. Just 25.

That's just another baseless myth that people like to throw around. He's been useful plenty of times without scoring. Just look at our game at the Emirates for a recent example, he doesn't score but does excellent work to create two goals.

Fair play to the big man, he's really come through with the goods exactly when required the last couple of games. Think he only had a couple of previous braces for us since he arrived, amazing for him to come through with two more in quick succession. Three of those four were cracking finished on his weak foot too if I'm not mistaken.

It’s similar to the situation with Smalling’s passing. We know neither is fecking Ronaldinho on the ball, but we know they can do their job really well and so long as they do that, the rest is bollocks to me.
Also, I love how he’s worked on his finishing with his right. Now you don’t know which angle to close down. Very impressed with that.

Another one for the ignore list with breakout. Never put anyone on it til this season. He's the 4th or 5th now. Just can't be happy with everyone.
On his game his finishing is top draw. Where he is deemed not good enough is his general play, he struggles to hold up the ball and gets caught in possession a lot for such a big guy, his control when recieveing the ball is shocking.

My criticism of him was whether he could create things out of nothing. Both goals were great finishes if not moments of brilliance. Theres still many aspects of his game that are infuriating such as the first touch. Wonder what will happen once lingard and martial return.

Lukaku has found a vein of form again just when we needed him. Fair play to him. And even took his shirt off to show us what a “fat bastard” looks like. Having seen his physique I am now motivated to become a “fat bastard” myself.
