I didn’t. The pass to Alexis was very good. His passing is underrated and his crossing is always very good.
Lukaku's crossing from the right is regularly very good.
I must admit to being uncomfortable with the level of stick he gets. Yes he is clearly low on confidence, slipping down the order under Ole, but there seems to be an edge to the vitriol against Rom that I frankly find distasteful.

Yes, perhaps why I am eager to defend him so much :(.

What edge do you think is distasteful.

He makes himself easy to dislike, he talks a great game in interviews but on the field, he appears overweight, lazy, (doesn’t press with any urgency, doesn’t make near enough runs). His control recently has become quite laughable, letting balls bounce, missing them completely.

Even though he he can cross a good ball and he didn’t have that bad of a game against Fulham, he didn’t really do anything of note. What will stand out is his consistent miss Controls again though, that’s unfortunate but what gets picked up on.
Really, we’ve been spoiled for choice in that position for so many years I think Lukaku just sticks out as not being as good as, even if he still is a decent player.

Players like Benteke, Andy Carroll & Lukaku are good players but are squares in round spots when making a step up.

Lukaku is back to where he started under Jose - where if he is to stay here then he has to be a RW/RF player & can't solely lead the line like he expects himself to do.

Even that you wonder if we are on an upward trajectory - how long would it be before we have enough RF/RW's to overdo him?

Whilst I don't care for other clubs all that much - it's not like the guy is useless - he has the ability to play football in his team, his environment & his tactics. The problem with Benteke, Caroll & Lukaku is that environment is not found at the top clubs.

National teams are on another level completely & I'd hate to say that Belgium should have won an euro or a WC by now. Whilst Lukaku scores goals for them; the whole team suffers playing a type of football that looks like the national team of Everton than say United, City or Liverpool.

He does have a very good cross.

Nobody hates him, or any other footballer probably, but especially not ours. But he’s shit, or at least we think he’s shit, and we want him to leave, because he’s shit.

Don’t wish personal loss or anything on him, but his 2-game absence in December was the second best thing to happen to our season, following the managerial change.

He runs his mouth too much in interviews. Too much talk about how much harder he works than everyone else, about how he’ll run through walls for the manager, about how other players are grown men and need to man up. He talks too big a game in interviews and then the player on the field isn’t representative of the person in the interviews. I frankly find that to be distasteful.

Someone needs to make a compilation of these gifs and send the file across to OGS / coaching staff via email. Enough is enough.

So I went and had a watch of some of Lukaku's earlier matches. Only so far as his earlier premier league days, not Belgium. And I'm pretty sure of what the issue is:

Lukaku is too feckin heavy. The amount of weight he has put on, whether fat or muscle, is close to 20 pounds, well over a stone.

It's inconceivable to me that modern sports management in football would allow him to get like this. Being a proteinaholic is a bit rampant these days. But you'd think as a professional footballer when your thunder thighs get too goddamm big to move and control a ball anymore you'd stop bulking. Those gifs are infuriating and embarrassing.

I'm going to go ahead and hope he loses weight over the summer. If he does then he maybe has a chance at salvaging his United career. There's a decent footballer under there...I think.

As an aside, this whole weight issue made me think of Beckham back in the day. He put on a bit of muscle in the gym, so little I never was able to tell. Yet it was enough that in interviews he said it was his worst season and due to the just little more weight he was pushing in the gym. Lukaku's weight gain is so noticeable. Even more so than Chicharito who I noticed add some pounds and since seem to lose a step in his game.

It's all just so so ridiculously feckin stupid in an age where we have great tech and sports science.

Usually im not one for censorship on forums but mods i think we should implement a ban on these stupid gifs and videos taking the piss out of Lukaku.

Its not only tiring but i would go as far as to say its verging on bullying now.

You could make these gifs about any outfield player on our team. Even our best player/players but its always Lukaku that gets it and its wrong.

Adds nothing to the discussion and a lot of its nitpicking and reaching.

Were posting videos of him mistiming headers now.

Interesting. I don't remember that abut Becks. I think Lukaku is a MUCH better than he's showing but the muscle gain had zero positive impact as far as i can see and to be honest he never seemed the Drogba/Shearer type who would be really physical with defenders anyway. Makes the whole thing seem pointless.

Meh. It'll be hard to bring similar gifs for the rest of our players as funny as the Lukaku's ones though.

I enjoy them as much as I enjoyed Jones meme faces. Lukaku the meme striker.

I was trying to find where exactly I read that, but it has been a decade and more since. Did come across him saying something similar again in an interview a few years back:

Beckham learned the hard way that he needed to leave out hard-core weight training. “My game’s all about moving around the pitch,” he says. “I went through a stage a few years ago where I lifted a lot of weights and put on about a stone [about 14 pounds] and ended up not being able to run.” Analyze your goals across the board, and ask yourself what can be left out. Do you really need a master’s degree when 2 years of work experience might serve you better? Do you really need to bench 250 pounds to improve your weekly hoops game? You’ll save time and enhance the talents you truly need.

I honestly dont think it would be people just target him and it needs to stop.

I mean how many times have we seen Rashford needlesly run the ball out of play with his kick and run,(he even fell over his own feet like two weeks ago didnt he?)or pogba misplace a simple pass.

Im watching a couple videos of pogba now which could easily be memes.

This is our own player that a lot of fans take pleasure in nitpicking and bullying.

Both Pogba and Rashford were actually criticized a lot for these when they made them, me included.

The problem is Lukaku used to cover for these pathetic moments by scoring goals, but once he stops scoring as this entire season, he has nothing to cover for them and his flaws start to become more and more obvious. Other strikers go on drought at least once a season but in this period they are still pretty useful for their teams. Lukaku is not at all, and thus these awful moments become the main focus.

We paid 85mil€ for him, he's one of the highest paid players and what are we getting in return? A shxxfest of performances since the start of the season. Just look at this sxxt
And it's not just season. Last season he fecked us against city where he literally gifted them 2 goals, missed a ton of chances when it mattered the most - Sevilla...
If he doesn't drasticly improve till the end of the season i hope we get rid cause he's making utd look like a laughing stock.

The forum is created to discuss stuff like this, if you are not happy to see people show how shit Lukaku's touch is, you can ignore the thread and move on.
Worse thing is, nobody will take him off us, unless at a very discounted price. We will be stuck with him for at least another year, where I hope he shreds 20 pounds off his body and recovers some of his limited technical abilities.

There will be plenty of clubs who will be ready to sign Lukaku, especially PL clubs. He has scored lot of goals and it's hard to find a regular goal scorer for clubs outside top 6.

Everton strikers combined scored 6 goals in league this season and they paid big money to sign Richarilson, Sigurdsson, Mina, Pickford, Keane. So it's not unrealistic to think Everton will pay big to sign him if he is available, only problem is Lukaku thinking he is above that level.

Bullying  Think you need to grow up a bit

We have the replacement already. His name is Greenwood. The player(s) we're replacing are Mata and Sanchez. Hopefully this will be a RW.

If only OGS would give him a chance, instead we get the so so performances if Lukaku and Mata, which gurantees them a place in the match day squad

 Good lord.

Not sure why anyone finds it surprising that Lukaku gets a shit ton of stick.

No matter how he was playing, he was usually the first name on the sheet under Mourinho. If we gave Martial or Rashford a random chance up front and they didn't perform well enough, they were hung out to dry by Mourinho as he was happy to use it to tell the press to mind their business as they had feck all knowledge about football, like his "now you know why Lukaku always plays" reference. Add in Lukakus interviews, which was him bigging himself up, talking about his mentality as being rock solid, being willing to run through a brick wall for Mourinho and that's why he's a favourite, that players need to grow up and be a man, to deal with their own shit with Mourinho. People started viewing him as a teachers pet, and rightly so, with his performances being nowhere near good enough to warrant the preferable treatment he was getting. Factor in his comments about Juventus and it's hardly a surprise that he's not the most loved player at United.

In terms of his form now, no idea what's going on with him but it's blatantly obvious that he's in a shocking state at the moment. It was pointed out quite early that something didn't seem right, he looked heavier, but it took ages until people were willing to accept that he had gained muscles, Lukaku himself confirmed that later on, but we're well past the point where he should've been able to trim it down. The various clips of him letting the ball bounce instead of trying to control it reminds me of childrens football, it's the very definition of a "what the feck" moment when you see a professional footballer on more than one occasion lets the ball bounce to make it easier to control, the worrying part is that even then he fails miserably, often being outmuscled by players half his size and/or mistiming the header after the ball has bounced.

More worrying is the fact that he looks lost, he can come on in the 70th min and 5 minutes later he looks like he's been playing for 100mins. Lack of runs, often standing still, doesn't look like he's anywhere near finding his form again. It's not like i think he has a long term future at the club, but short term it would be extremely valuable to have an in form Lukaku as an option, especially now that we have a great chance of knocking out PSG and finishing 4th.

Agreed. A lot of posts in this thread are posts you would expect to see on a rival forum about a rival player.

It has been close to two months since he admitted he added some extra weight for the WC which ended up influencing his UTD performances in a bad way, but he's still bulky after two months have passed. I really expected him to start shedding some muscle, I know that's not easy when you're a pro athlete but he gotta do it.

Where to start with Lukaku ?

First, he's low on confidence, that's evident. Nonetheless my main problem with him is his movement (lack of?). A lot of people say that he gets no service. This is not true, to get service, you need to move to be able to get the ball. He is way too static to be the main striker of this team.

Some people seem to almost revel in his mistakes, so they can abuse him more. As @Tom Van Persie says, I can think of few oppo players that face the level of vitriol that Lukaku does. The lazy stereotypes about black players seem to be in full flow as well.

Agree. It's particularly striking given we're currently in the best run of form we've seen in years. God only knows what will happen if results take a downturn and people are looking for a player to kick.

Hopefully he finds his mojo. Whether you like him or not, in peak form he is a decent attacking option and something different.

Agree with what? That he’s being called lazy and useless because it’s a black stereotype? I whole heartedly disagree.

I call him lazy because he appears just that, for the reasons I pointed out in my first reply to you, Jippy.

Some may go over the top and revel in it, that I don’t agree with. I’m sure he can be called lazy and useless without it being because of stereotype though.

Don't think it's a black player stereotype though when people are calling him lazy. He comes on as a sub and barely moves most of the game. That's why he's labeled lazy. No one calls Lingard, Pogba, Rashford or Bailey lazy.
