It's like he expects his teammates to pass the ball so perfectly as to hit his foot perfectly and control itself.

It really does seem like he's got to put more effort in. I don't know where that's coming from because early on I thought he was a grafter
It's crazy to me, this gif is amazing. The ball is right there in front of him and he does squat

There was an incident yesterday in the 71st minute where the ball was hoofed up to him. He let it bounce about 3 meters in front of him and then did a little jump to try to connect with the ball as it rose up and over him but still somehow he still lost out to the defender who was standing behind him (and who was about half his size in all directions). As an isolated incident, it wouldn't be much to remark on but the fact that game after game, he does this sort of thing and demonstrates a complete inability to trap/lay off the ball is pretty unbelievable for a professional footballer at any level.

I'd love a gif of that. I was genuinely shaking my head in hysterics. It's like a tellytubby with no coordination chasing the ball.
I remember this too. I cringed, he really struggles with reading the flight of any aerial or bouncy ball

I think there's a good player in there somewhere. He'll turn up eventually. He looked quality in the world cup.

He's not dealing well with losing his place. Maybe there's some bad feeling after he backed Jose to stay in the job.

The way people go on about Lukaku’s Belgium performances you would swear that he’s Cristiano Ronaldo for his national team.

That Belgium team consists of Hazard and De Bruyne, two players who are both a one man team in their own right. Put the two of them in my national team and fecking Kenwyne Jones will have the scoring record of a world class striker.

Unless we’re planning on bringing in KDB and Hazard I fail to see how his record for Belgium means that he’s magically going to become a striker worthy of United.

I agree with your overall sentiment but De Bruyne doesn’t carry city. They have been without him most of the season. City has Sterling, Aguero, Silva x2, Fernandinho etc. Unless I misunderstood what you mean by “one man team”.

Absolutely spot on. Said that several times but was labelled by some one here without mentioning names an agenda driven.

Not this season specifically, but over the course of his time at City there have been games where he’s been a one man team. Even if he doesn’t need to do it regularly, he’s still capable of it if need be. Similarly when he was at Wolfsburg.

Edit: When I say they’re one man teams, I mean that both of them, individually, are capable of driving an entire midfield and attack all on their own, without any other player having any significant impact.

The standard to which we now hold a Manchester United striker is “winning 10 aerial balls.”

Cantona, Cole, Yorke, Ole, RVN, Rooney, Berbatov and RVP all hold their heads and weep.

This has gone beyond scraping the bottom of the barrel. We’ve dug out the bottom of the barrel and are now digging up the dirt beneath it.

The defender is pushing Lukaku from backing up further. He still wins the ball after the bounce. How much do you expect a striker to do with hoofs like that?

These gifts come every match it's more funny to watch than being annoying now. Pathetic striker.

You really have blind spot with Lukaku.
How low are your standards for our 75m main striker?

I don't see how it is low standards when talking about one specific moment. He has a defender up his ass and has to recover a hoof ball, I don't see what people expect him to really do there.

Why doesn't he just take the ball out of the air like any quality striker would? Genuinely don't want to sound personal here but do you just not like criticising players? Or Perhaps going against the status quo? The problem I see is that game after game his performances are diabolical and really for Utd standard are indefensible and yet there are still a number of people (including yourself) defending him. I really want to know what you see in him that firstly, is Man Utd quality and secondly, is worth defending so vigilantly. Whenever I have asked questions such as these in this thread people have disappeared without reply which really doesn't make their arguments hold up well.

I don't have a problem with criticising players, I just don't like when a player is targeted and hounded by our own fans for everything. He is not in his best form but we should support him. People just WANT a reason to call him a donkey. Could he have done more yesterday? Perhaps. Was he abysmal like people are making out? No.

Yes I will defend Lukaku, no one else will.

Don't

When balls are continuously hoofed up to you it's not always gonna fall perfectly for you. Like I said he won 10 aerial balls yesterday but this is what people want to pick out. It's not easy to continuously play those balls, and I'm sure it's not something Lukaku prefers.

You keep saying he won 10 aerial balls like it’s some kind of achievement. Even if he did control those ten aerial balls it doesn’t detract from the fact that game after game he makes mistakes controlling the ball. Can’t you see that?

It’s honestly more of a surprise to me these days when he does win a header or control a high or fast ball, especially on the run, he really struggles.

The problem is Haram, people like myself are not judging these things in isolation but are instead seeing the accumulation of consistently poor actions and performances that are not befitting of a Manchester Utd forward. The clip above in isolation is forgivable, in fact I could point to 100 of those for Rashford as well, the difference is that he doesn't sprinkle in moments of magic or pure quality like our other players can. I can only speak for myself, but I am fed up of seeing his name on our team sheet and knowing before a ball has been kicked that we might as well be a man down because our number 9 neither has the quality or intensity to impact games. I didn't think he was good enough when we signed him, I have given him every chance to win me over but at the end of the day a space is a spade and Lukaku is just a poor footballer.

It's not one moment because he's produced similar gifs like this throughout the whole thread. Every game, another new gif. The ball even after the bounce was His to win. He gets outmuscled by defenders half the size and is consistently lacking in vital areas. You're making it sound like he's feeding off scraps.

I never said he was perfect and I never said it was an achievement. He didn't play badly yesterday.

Ok, fair enough re the achievement.

Still, you say he didn’t play badly, he didn’t do anything, bottom of the league team and his chance to show some worth with rashford stealing his starting spot and he produces that performance. There was no energy, pure laziness or stupidness in the box. (When Pogba made a storming run into the box and was begging for someone to cut it back to, Lukaku had the ideal opportunity but stood on the back post behind three players waving. Bernado silva I think it was made that exact move in the box today Lukaku could have made.

As a one off fair enough but the consistency of his shitness is now outweighing is ok-ness. I seen you defend him earlier saying he had two world class assists against arsenal or some sort defending him against someone pointing out how crap he’s been. That’s extreme reaching there, his pass for Lingard was an obvious square ball with all the time in the world, hardly world class. Similar situation for mata yesterday but with less time and on the move and he played it behind him, stopped the attack but luckily had a pen from it.

It’s not that I’m eager to slate him, I feel more sorry for him now. Now that we’ve been getting results my frustration has turned to humour and I can laugh every time he’s seen bumbling about trying to control a bouncing ball.

You need to quote where I've said the pass to Lingard was world class.

Ok, ignore the rest while I have to find that.

Edit: @haram I’ve had a quick look and can’t find it so I apologise if it wasn’t you that said that

There’s a lovely gif further up the page showing what he does when it’s played into his feet too, tbh.

I didn’t. The pass to Alexis was very good. His passing is underrated and his crossing is always very good.

While I think he had an okayish game against Fulham, some of his plays are just infuriating and I just can defend. He can do better, which is even more frustrating.

He's a professional pie muncher with no coordination

Take the £30m hit and sell him to whoever is stupid enough to want him
