The header that hit the post was a great attempt considering he was moving backwards. His header to set up Martial was perfect though, he looked better today than he has in the last few games but that's probably because we played better as a team too.

Thought he was poor in his hold up play today. I know he was isolated at times but he never looked like scoring.

I like Lukaku but Kane would fit us better.

Today, again, summarises Lukaku. He cannot hold up play, his touch always seems off when pressured, his passing is poor and his finishing isn't good enough to make up for his deficiencies. He tries hard enough but he is some way off a top class striker

Kane looks really good in the spurs setup and their style of play but we wouldn't know if he would fit into our style. But that's the thing isn't it. If we had bought Kane and he gave performances similar to Lukaku's, we would be saying Lukaku would have been a better fit. Lukaku is one of the top strikers in the EPL and I am glad we got him. He has done his best the past few games but you have to understand the way mourinho plays isolates him upfront.

His overall game was off today, but nearly scored from nothing. Great header really considering ball was behind him and the distance, an a really good assist. Comparable to Ibra last season really, he was always getting slagged off on here but yet kept scoring or producing key moments.

It's amazing that he's played well for us so far given that we almost never consistently cross the ball well or send decent through balls for him to run to. Get pogba back, get a decent LB and replace that useless Shitiyatran and he'll do even better.

He came alive in those last 15 mins, I didn't know he had this sort of resilience in him.

Nonsense post

Yeah his hold-up play is definitely his biggest weakness. His link-up play can be good at times.

He's been starved of service lately.

No surprises really with Lukaku. Top player and clinical in front of goal against teams outside top 6. However, he tends to drift in and out of games when our backs are against the wall. He needs to do more in these big games. Has to work, hold the ball up, improve link up play and ensure that he brings the likes of Mkhi, Martial and Rashford into the game. Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo et al. all had it tough but were much better at making their mark in the big games. Lukaku will learn and improve.

This was especially enjoyable as Redknapp had spent the entire broadcast up until that point telling everyone who would listen that you can tell what type of game Lukaku will have after watching the first 5 minutes of the game.
I'm convinced Redknapp knows f**k all about football. Even Souness manages to make more sense at times

Thought he did well today. Tough game for him but he never stopped working and contributed to the winning goal.

@ForlansHair
Yeah I feel we stuck it to Sky today. 8 mins in and Tyler introduces Jamie by saying we would have expected you to be talking about Spurs now but Utd have started well..I mean come on..
Or everytime Spurs had a bit of possession they'd throw up the last 5 mins possession graph as if to show how dominant they are.
It really annoyed me today but well done to Big Rom, Im sure Redknapp had his Lukaku bashing clips already picked out by then but Lukakus contribution shut him up.

Will support him as he’s ours, but he’s not my sort of footballer at all.

I hope that Rashford can push on and become our centre forward.

There's a lot of hype around Spurs at the minute - they're a good team no question but you'd think United were relegation fodder, given the coverage.

Forget recent history and that Spurs have won one minor trophy in 26, the narrative was completely off just by looking at the league table...we were ahead of them in the league in second place but apparently it was "a must win game" etc. Same with Man City - we are poor, dull and in desperate need of victory they are the greatest team to ever play in the league etc...basically they talk complete bollocks.

As for Lukaku, he's feeding off next to nothing, so it's difficult to criticise. I think he could do a bit more with getting involved in these really tight games but we don't know Mourinho's instructions, which could be to stay up regardless and be sharp when the chances come and space opens up. By that judgement, he did well in the second half.

If Lukaku starts on Tuesday, I think he will get a few, but Mourinho may rest him for Chelsea.

Absolutely zero service, even the goal was a GK out flick on from nowhere. Nine times out of ten the buildup is a crazy spannered ball into his vicinity that he needs to try and win. Still works his bollocks off, mainly with absolutely nobody around him.

In his post match interview with MUTV Mourinho was complaining that the fans aren't supporting Lukaku enough.

Would help if Mkhi wasn't shit. Pogba will help loads as well.

I might need to see it again but that was a decent cross. Lingard was poor but he dug out a deep cross from the byline and done well to get any pace with trajectory on it.

Not a terrible cross, but very difficult because he had to back up a little to hit it, so the amount of power he got from it was quite impressive.

Anyways, a slight slump in form and now suddenly hes not good enough . Come the feck on Caf, please stop with the knee jerk reactions

Wouldn't be surprised if Lukaku is gone within a couple of years.

I know we paid big money but, with the inflation in the transfer market, £75m isn't a ridiculous fee and we'd probably recoup most of that if we flogged him to a second-tier club.

He'll score bags of goals against the smaller clubs but Rashford is already a more complete player than him and he's much younger. Lukaku isn't really good enough for an elite club, whereas Rashford certainly is.

Personally, I hope we start phasing in Rashford as the 9, which would free up a spot for Martial on the left.

Are you seriously assessing his future based on 10 games?? Wow, you are brave. I believe he is the joint top goal scorer equal with Kane? Patience is a virtue i’d say!

So, to summarise, in this thread we have now heard that Lukaku has the following attributes;

1. Poor first touch
2. Cannot hold up play
3. Poor link up
4. Poor passing
5. Poor work rate
6. Poor Movement
7. Poor finishing
8. Tires late in games due to his size

I for one am amazed he even manages to find his way to training in the morning and put his boots on correctly. How the scouts at Anderlecht, Belgium, Chelsea, West Brom, Everton and Utd have got it so wrong on a simpleton is beyond me.

He must be the luckiest man alive to have contributed 14 goals on 15 games.

Yeah this was an extremely tough game for him(as it would for any striker), because Mhiki was terrible again. The back 3 and Matic/Herrera hardly take the ball across midfield(missing Pogba) and basicly zero crosses for him. He isnt the best in creating chances for himself. He worked hard, but these game are just very tough without supply.

With Pogba back, a new 10 and crossing wingers; we and Lukaku will look so much better.

Im happy Ibrahimovic gets back tho; He can give him good coaching and gives us an extra option. I would blame Lukaku for having a bad game. He did fine imo.

Apparently morata missed a host of chances yesterday but when next he scores a hatrick this place will be filled with the usual refrain of how we'd be better with morata rather than big rom

Anyways, hope he does get a hatrick on Tuesday annd then gets subbed off to get a rest for chelsea

Am also basing it on his time at Everton, so that's quite a good sample size.

As I say, he'll score bags of goals against the lesser teams but we need a more complete player when we're playing the elite.

He did.

One was a one on one with the keeper unmarked where he failed to even hit the target.

This place would have lit up had Lukaku done that.

I fear we aren't getting a new striker until we get a new manager. It's a shame because I like Jose, but Lukaku isn't good enough for where we want to go, imo. Neither is half the squad though.

Myth that never dies. Madrid are a shit small club isn't it, maybe City too. He scored against them in both games last season.

He needs to improve a lot of things. And IMO his movement off the ball outside the box is so poor which is one of the most important aspect that he needs to improve as a striker or even a player if he wants to be a top player, he needs to know how to read the situation well. I believe Henry mentioned this in WHU game as well, and I must say he hasn't improve it at all.
