I can't believe Ive read a post disregarding 11 goals in 15 goals as simply a stat.
Apart from the goals, what makes this goal machine a top striker?
Remember not to bring up his goals...
edit..This was from March last year.

For a man with a shit first touch and hold up play he sure does create chance after chance.
Must be deflecting off his ass.
Why don't you do it?There's been moments and glimpses in every single game for us that I've watched him and truly wondered if he's ever played football before. It's not really a major criticism of his, but when things don't go well for him technically - they REALLY don't go well and it's absolutely comical. I wish someone can compile a video/gif of all his technical mishaps into one. He does not look like a footballer at all at times.
Very good point.
I fear that Ronaldo and Messi have messed up the people's view on what strikers should do on the pitch. It's not enough to score goals and give assists (which Lukaku has been doing consistanly every year) but they also have to be some sort of playmaker. A few weeks ago you could read on here that his hold up play is actually pretty good and he didn't seem to be lazy at all. Now that he has been left isolated at the front the last few games he's all crap again. If he could only cross to himself ...
The fact that he's so big doesn't help either because then a lesser control will stick out more than with smaller more nimble players. If you only play with one striker you need to have a midfield that's playing close to you and is willing to run past you so you can flick off the ball.
Out of 10 league games Lukaku has scored in 6 games and in 2 games he assisted our only goals. But somehow he isn't a top player.
In CL, In 3 games he scored in 2 of them and also in Super cup.
So in 14 games he started, he scored in 9 games and assisted in 2 games. Only games he didn't was against Leicester, Liverpool and Benfica.
But somehow people are still moaning about him. It's not just the number of goals he scored, it's about in how many games he scored or assisted which is very good record for us.
I can see both sides of this & I think he's got a lot of untapped potential.
He wasn't great yesterday but still did some good things - I also think him being there is a threat to the opposition & helps our team shape (aeons better than having Zlatan there, but without the Big Swede's technique (and inability to run anywhere, ) I suppose[/QUO
Hope so palFair enough. I do think he now has more support than he ever did when playing for Everton so I don’t think it’s a like for like comparison. Also the times I saw him at Everton, he didn’t play at the same level of desire and genuine love for the club as he is displaying for Utd. Don’t remember him banging the turf at the final whistle in determination and passion for a good result. Let’s give him more games - I think he has more than earned that. He is not a playmaker as such - he just needs service and he will bang in the goals against any team! I think once Pogba returns - you will see service being resumed per 6-7 games at the start of season and more magic from him in front of goal. Could be famous last words!
Amazing how you weren't calling for these "technique" videos' when Rooney could hardly stand up playing football, let alone scoreThere's been moments and glimpses in every single game for us that I've watched him and truly wondered if he's ever played football before. No he is much more than a goal poacher. Hernandez was a goal poacher. He couldnt do much else. Lukaku does so much more. Firstly he is quick, he can turn and run at defenders, good header of the ball, physical beast and can bully people, can score from outside the box, his mere presence forces defenders to strategise how to mark him. You get too close and he will turn you or hold you off and give him too much space and he has the confidence to run with the ball.Lukaku is a goal poacher. He'll put the ball inside the net (which is exactly what we need) but we can't expect him to contribute alot in our game play. He might develop into a more complete player in due time but that will require time

You deserve a million bucks. Why don't you do it?

Definitely, the most extreme case being his encounters with Blind while playing at Everton where he wouldn't use his strength or speed to bully him. He has the ability to outmuscle almost everyone he can't outrun and vice versa, but rarely seems to want to exploit that advantage. My only complaint is that he doesn't use his physique enough. I think he could knock defenders around more than he does. Which would compensate for those moments when his footwork is a bit off.

You could do this for any player.
Very fecking annoying. He's a real striker and knows where the ball can be best played for him. Our players are soooo frustrating when they resort to the safest and often most pointless passing option. The main thing that gets on my nerves is when he asks for the ball , arms out etc and his teammates play the safe ball to someone else instead , we have a bunch of " safe passers " in our squad and it's so annoying.
Funny enough when I used to watch Everton the same thing would happen.
If you're about to reach the final 3rd of the pitch, your striker should be given first priority( unless it's an obvious chance).
It's a good thing that he can learn from the master himself - Fellaini.I'm not sure what people are expecting from Lukaku.
Everyone knew he wasn't some technical wizard. He's a battering ram who can put the ball in the net.
The only thing I'd critise him for is he isn't great at bringing the ball down from a goalkick or a long ball forward. If he improved on that he'd be a monster.
Barring the moment where the crowd groaned at him for giving up on the ball, he was a handful for what most consider the best central pairing in the league plus dier. Once again for 60-70 minutes he was isolated up top until martial came on and got closer to him.
The second half especially whichever cb he pulled on to he was a real problem for them as you saw by the way he made alderweireld look like a little boy with the header against the post.
Pogba being out really harms the way we play, there’s no quick transition anymore everything feels like it’s at walking pace as matic and Herrera don’t have that 3-4 strides with the ball that make the midfield and defence turn. Mhki has to drop deep and collect the ball closer leaving lukaku occupied by the 2/3 centre halves, whereas before Pogba would commit the opponents midfield allowing mhki to go beyond and give the defence something to think about.
Here you go again...Here's our striker for the next 5-10 years folks (unless Mourinho leaves). Fantastic..

Toss off and go and support Man City mate.
