Why after every mistake he makes does he wave his arms at the nearest united player to him, trying to blame them for his mistake. It’s extremely annoying and can’t be good for morale.

His link up play is improving, his first touch doesn’t seem to be but overall he’s doing ok.

I think you're the only annoyed by it. His teammates hardly care about this.

He seems to be linking up with martial better than anyone. That was some fine assist after dragging 4 players on , he had good enough vision to play the ball to martial instead of lingard.

If only other players can do the same to him more often

Once again his overall game was very good. Whenever someone says "if he isn't scoring, he won't contribute anything', it's easier to see they have never watched his games and just go by some twitter videos (mainly some Chelsea fans).

His overall game was very good, his work for the assist was top class. Shame Pogba and Rashford were poor with their decisions, he could have scored 1 or 2 goals.

His link up play and technique doesnt surprise me at all.

He needs to score more often for me. I thought he could’ve pulled the trigger a couple of times today but decided to wait for his teammates, which is great but I want to see him put his foot through those.

I felt for him against Burnley, he had 2 really good chances with Pogba and Lingard just needing to make simple 5 yard passes to find him in a good position but both just decided to go for the contested shot. I think Lingard's one must have also annoyed Mou with the way he got subbed off immediately after that.

Superb assist for the goal. Looking forward to Sanchez coming in and giving us so proper speed and balance across the front line. It will be as though another piece fits after the Zlatan to Lukaku move was made. Buzzing.

Good assist. I’m not convinced he’s ever going to be top class, but he’s done well of late. He doesn’t get much service.

I don't know how caf can sometimes have such an agenda that rather than praising the player for a solid assist they'd go after the player because they think he is not and never going to be top-class.

Lukaku is probably the 3rd best striker in the premier league after Kane and Aguero. His link up play, his passing and his work rate is second to none as a striker. He might never be "world class" but Jose has never needed world class strikers to win Champions leagues. :)

I thought he did alright. Not his best game, but hold it up well and involved in the goal. Din't watch it with the highest concentration though.

Im really happy with him. The service he gets is absolutly woeful. Rashford especially could of laid 4 or 5 on a plate for him over the last few week.

My original post was more a nod to the fact that I’ve been quite critical of Lukaku since he’s joined us, but I have to give credit where it’s due.

He’s not scoring prolifically, certainly compared to the top goal getters this season, but I do think he’s shown some good qualities in terms of his general team play.

Would like to see him up his goal tally and maybe the additional freedom and service from Sanchez will help in those regards.

Which players are most culpable for not providing him with the kind of service he requires? More importantly why are they failing to do so?

The ignorance over Lukaku's contributions by opposition fans is staggering. I was talking to my cousin yesterday and a friend of his (my cousin is an Arsenal fan and his friend is a Liverpool fan) and they were both surprised when I told them Lukaku has scored 17 goals this season and made 6 assists. They both assumed that all the forwards at their respective clubs have outscored him. These people genuinely considered him a flop who Mourinho is struggling to get the best out of. I see a lot of shit like that on social media as well. I expected flak during his barren spell but its not even banter with these people anymore, they believe what they read

well you have your answer there.

Everton fans said he was lazy and never worked hard. Either they were lying, or he's turned over a new leaf since he joined United. Works his ass off even on his bad days.

I've always said he prefers to drift in from that right side, reason being is that he has more time on the ball, but mainly space to maneuver, and for a guy of his height/stature this is very important.

He's been doing it a lot less often recently, thankfully. I think his teammates were starting to get fed up with it (remember Herrera screaming back at him on one occasion). Overall, I think his attitude has been really good for the last few weeks.

28 PL assists since 2014 - no striker has more.

He's so unselfish and works so hard.

It'll be really interesting to see him form an understanding with Sanchez.

They're both very hard working and both unselfish yet goal hungry. Imagine being a defender and lining up against Sanchez and Rom, and then realizing Anthony Martial will be roaming around freely as well...

He has impressed my greatly. Works hard, seems to be level-headed and has done really well to get out of his slump. It shows strength of character. Alot of good things to come from him in my opinion.

True, I remember the Herrera incident. Don’t get me wrong Lukaku’s attitude overall is good. But he did demonstrate at team mates a couple of times again vs Burnley. I suspect it’s just because he wants to do well and he’s frustrated occasionally. But criticising team mates in the heat of battle can be a touchy subject even when it’s constructive criticism (which this doesn’t seem to be).

Overall though he’s having a good first season with us. His general play is improving massively.

Lukaku is exactly the striker United, Mourinho needs (if not the fans). Unlike Ibra, he keeps his discipline by staying upfield, without dropping too much to keep the shape and the CBs in check. He gives good runs and physicality up front even if his aerial abilities are not his strengths.

He can still improve though, mind.

Nope. He needs to be more vocal. It’s the kind of thing Zlatan would do. And that shows. I have no doubts that Rashford and Pogba wouldnt have taken a shot if it was ibra in lukaku’s position and was unmarked in the box

I completely agree. It's like he sees himself as a misunderstood football genius at times. :wenger: He is a lot better than most people give him credit for, and has a keen football mind, but his remonstrations reflect poorly on him. That's why for his sake (and that of his teammates) I'm glad he's not doing it as much as he used to.

I get the sense that he realizes how much more productive he can be when the team around him is really high standard (with Belgium, he's got Kevin de Brunye, both Hazards, Dembélé, and Witsel), so he gets frustrated when his service isn't very good. And, to be fair, it's been pretty poor at times (even though United's recent play overall has been good thanks in no small part to him).

Never quite understood this criticism. I think it's more perception as he's a big guy and his endurance or ability to keep whizzing around at full pelt like a Suarez or Aguero is not really there. Comes across more lazier but he's got a much bigger frame and therefore it takes more energy to move it around. It isn't for want of effort and certainly not something we could criticise him for in a United shirt thus far.

Lukaku works really hard for the team. He has a fantastic mentality. He just wants to win, he is so unselfish.

It really is a fecking shame that our main striker is ATM the least selfish out of all of our attacking players.

Lukaku's assist count should increase with Sanchez's arrival. Surely Sanchez is not going to miss all the chances that Rom creates.

how`s he the striker we need? i thought a strikers job was to get goals. don`t get me wrong he`s not playing bad but tends to miss some sitters for us. hopefully with sanchez along side him might free more space up to run into.

According to PL stats, he has only missed one more big chance than Kane, and less than Salah, Morata and Lacazette.

I’m not sure what constitutes a ‘big chance’, but yeah.

He scores goals, helps build play and makes movement to try help our other forwards.

That is exciting

And then Pogba steps forward to cause some havoc :D

He needs to start scoring regularly in the league, at the moment it's one every 2 games which is quite average. He's way behind the likes of Kane and Salah in the goal scorers table.

Kane - 21
Salah - 18
Aguero - 16
Sterling - 14
Lukaku - 11
Morata - 10
Rooney - 10
Vardy - 10
Martial - 10

Morata who everyone agrees has been out of form for quite a while yet has scored 1 goal less than Lukaku. At this rate, martial might overtake him!

On the other hand, he rarely gets anything in return. Yes, he's not perfect but our service is terrible. Never a pass into space, hardly a good cross. It's incredible really and our attacking play must improve a lot!

No one bid for Icardi last season so he wasn't that available. Your point is illogical then.

The available good strikers in the market were Lukaku, Morata, Belotti and Lacazette. Did you see the Morata and Lacazette performing any better than any Lukaku ? I'll say Lukaku is on the same level of Morata and ahead of Lacazette. Belotti didn't move because of the ridiculous fee asked for him from Torino even though he only had about one good year in his career and not to mention he's similar to Lukaku in almost every thing.

If you see any other top striker we could have got who was available, better than Lukaku and would have costed 75m or less, enlighten us ?
Just though I would nugde this, in relation to players only being available when bidded for. After our hijacking of Alexis Sanchez, it seems our higher ups cannot believe their luck, in exploiting this opportunity. I believe money talks and we should always park some money on the table and see what the player/club says.
