Perfect time for him to get a goal to try and get his confidence going ahead of the Derby.

I think he should be more selfish and just bulldoze the City defence when gets a chance to run at him.

Did well today.

Has great heart. Didn’t let the pressure of the lack of goals recently weigh too heavily on his shoulders. Ok he spurned a few chances, but his team play today and against Arse was very good. Onward and upwards for him

Lukaku scored in both games against City for Everton last season. Can he score again on Sunday? We will need him to produce a perfect performance.

He also scored against them at preseason

13 goals now in all competitions. If he can hit 25, it will be a very good debut season for him. I hope he can get close to 30 and see where it takes us in May

His overall play is much, much better than I expected. Did very well against Arsenal(just look at the 2nd and 3rd goal) and Watford. When he was scoring, he was getting too much criticism for his overall play. When he gets his scoring form back again, then he'll be an absolute monster player for us.

Even yesterday his overall game was good. Still can't believe people used "lukaku is very one footed player" thing on Caf, watching him it's obvious his weaker foot is not a problem at all and he proved it again playing good through ball to Rashford with his right foot.

Really like how he works his heart off on the pitch!
Was great against Watford, Arsenal and also Brighton - when Rash got substituted due to injury and Zlatan came on he provided cover for Ashley on the left flank and won some crucial balls in an intense stage of the game. Really glad to see him score again and as others already said: If he keeps his team play & work rate at this level and starts scoring again he will be a key player for this Mou side!

It’s difficult to know what people want/expect from Rom tbh.

The bloke is 6”3 and must be 90Kg+ - any sports scientist will tell you that his body shape doesn’t well lend itself to chasing around after the ball like a dog in the park

I would prefer Rom to save his energy for those electric bursts of pace and power he shows when he isolates a defender. Utd haven’t had a CF since peak Rooney that could burst past a defender like he wasn’t there and it scares the life out of defences and creates space for other players.

With regard yesterday, was good again. One great through and one great cross that should have resulted in goals and took his single chance

His passing can actually be quite good.

Playing with the likes of Pogba, Rashford and Martial will bring out a better Lukaku in the long run.

Loved his goal yesterday. Some people want to see 30 first touch passes and a tap in. But I think there is beauty in a central midfielder passing through the middle of the pitch and a striker making a mockery of the defender.

Worked his bollocks off again and his goal was superb. Love him to bits and really enjoying him this season.

He actually plays some really good balls through to create good goalscoring opportunities. He has a lot more to his game than just goals in my opinion.

Actually think at times of late he's been deferring too much. Maybe it's because he's been a little short of confidence in front of net, but it's not the worst problem to have tbh.

Let's hope that's the start of a run. If so the timing couldn't be better

Good to see him get a goal, important for his confidence, but I'm more pleased with the improvement in his overall play lately. His movement has improved and he's finding himself in more space, he's not being closed down as easily as earlier in the season, and his passing is actually starting to look pretty good. He's looking like a more complete player now even if the goals have been lacking lately.

He's a big threat when he drifts to the right. He can beat his man, he can whip in a good ball, and he still remains a goal threat. I'm not totally against the idea of him playing there at some point if José does plan on playing him with Zlatan.

Reminds me a bit of Ibrahimovic and Rooney, running back to pick up the ball deeper than he should be.

Happy with his performances though.

It's much more preferable than that. He's still staying high and keeping CBs occupied and trying to play in others instead of taking them on or popping off from distance. I've said it previously in this thread, but I wanted Morata here in the summer over Lukaku, but have been so so happy with what I've seen of him so far. Happy he's at United.

But does he have a high ceiling for £90m?

He's a big guy but not a target man and so playing from wide might suit him more rather then potentially playing with his back to goal. The difference between his bottom and top level is quite big so it's important, he builds on this because we can't afford passengers.

I feel this is a big problem for us, the service to him is shocking at times. Honestly Coleman and Baines put in better crosses for him at Everton! We rarely get to the byline and put in a cross for him to attack, it's always either far too floaty or just nowhere near him, must be really frustrating.

How many of his Everton goals were headers ?

Not sure exactly, but watch this, you can see how many come from in the box through crosses whether high or low.

Hopefully he can do better as the target-man than last game vs City, where Pep's tactics were about instantly going very hard on Rashford or whoever 'small' attacker received the ball.

Freekick, no yellows, no counter-attacks and then back to putting pressure on United. We have to improve on this on Sunday - they completely killed our counter-attacks last time.

He has done every game he has played, and contributed in many ways, even during this current barren patch. Wish all our fans would recognise this, especially as other players have been chipping in when he hasn't been able to.

I've seen improvement in many facts of his game even during his short spell with us so far; he is still developing, and working with coaches like Mourinho and Henry, who knows what level he can reach over next 18 months.

Well he roasted City twice last season so here's hoping for the best!

The precision reminds me of Robin van Persie, the strength reminds me of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Something else that doesn’t seem to get a lot of mention about Lukaku is the leadership role he has taken for the strike force. He’s constantly talking to Rashford and Martial during games and he takes moments to praise them for ideas that maybe they don’t execute but was still a great idea, he applauds them, encourages them. It’s great to see that.

Haha I love this, always giving the thumbs up when someone tries to play him in. He seems like a positive, motivating guy which is great to have in the squad.

He's working hard and importantly, he has not been a liability during his slump. Rather, he's helped to create chances for his teammates to score. That's atleast partly mitigated his goal scoring drought.

Needs to score against City. Big players step up in these sort of games.

There was literally someone in this thread who found it to be the most annoying thing about Lukaku.

Hahaha really?

Yea you can’t make this up.

What annoys me the most about him is his constant clapping to a teammate if they make a chance for him, as if it's the first time he has actually played football, like he will literally clap and acknowledge the chance for about 20 seconds, was he not used to getting this many chance's at everton? I know he should applaud a teammate for good play, but to me he seems to steep from a confidence issue maybe. This is Manchester united, the chance's will come romelu, and again. and again, just get on with trying to put them chance's away!

Jesus, thing is it’s not only when they make a chance for him, if they take on something and it almost comes off he does it as well. Personally I think that is great to see and hope he keeps it up. He’ll even chew people out when he has to, seen him get on to Pogba a few times for overcompicating things.

Overall I wanted Lukaku last year as I thought he would benefit Martial and Rashford more by how he plays occupying teams and so on giving them pockets of space and so far he has done really well at doing that even when he isn’t scoring him being there is crucial to the way the team plays.

I agree. Young forwards like Martial and Rashford need a reference point in attack so they can get closer to the goal and roam. You can see how Higuain and Falcao helped Dybala and Mbappe last season. Lukaku gives that reference point to us and he himself is very young and people foret that sometimes.
