Was terrible today. The ball is not his best mate these days.
Come on Lukaku we need you back in form...

I thought his general play was good. Confidence is low when in front of goal.

Can't believe how easily he gets dominated in the air.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mata would beat him to a high ball.
Hope he can sort his head out soon.

He doesn’t get dominated in the air more than any other top premier league striker. For example, he’s at 46% of aerial duals won compared to Kane’s 43% and Aguero’s 37%. Feel free to verify the stats. He also scores as much as any of them. He also creates at a decent rate. But there are always going to be baseless criticism of him when he doesn’t score and I’ve accepted that.

for me, he played quite well actually, also made assist to Martial goal. just we need and expect him to score goals in a match but he missed very good chance again and that makes me quite disappointed. Hopefully he can score goal against arsenal later.

He's always been a player that goes through purple and baron patches.

Not technically great, looks awkward with ball at feet even and that's my main concern against the better teams when space is scarce and more cute intricate football is needed. Still young though, talks about the game with intelligence and desire to improve so hopefully there's loads more to come (even if, in my unprofessional opinion, by his age you either have it or you don't when it comes to stuff like a first touch. It's not something that improves via further coaching).

Does works hard for the team which is great to see, even when he doesn't score the movement and presence are contributory factors in our play.

He will not be the first player to go through a dip in form. I trust he will get his confidence back soon and the goals will flow again.

I think he is incredibly shit at playing football, but obviously he's big, strong and fast, and can hit a ball sometimes!
No but I think he's a good player, but would Barca, Bayern and Real for example be interested in him? Not really. Good player, but not great. We're never gonna win Champions League with Lukaku as our main striker, that's for sure.
This is the worst part about signing someone for up to £90m who isn't and probably won't ever be world class. He won't take us to the next level.

He's big so he should win all the duels and stuff. Also the chances he created this game don't count because he looks clumsy.

What boots is he currently wearing? I noticed they were black but surely they are some brand despite no boot deal at the minute.

Against Brighton and Basel he was wearing adidas (white boots) so it might have been adidas again but from this and this picture it looks like there's a swoosh on it so Nike? In September he was rotating boot brand so I assume that is still the case.

He's low on confidence in front of goal, but he did good work in the build up to both Young's opener and assisted Martial's goal. He's going through a rough patch in his goal scoring, but I think he'll come good fairly soon.

How bad was lukaku. Such a waste. Really wanted Morata instead of him.

He was terrible not because he missed the chances. He was terrible because he did not much help out the team when we were under the cosh. He just could not be bothered. He lost possession and would not even sprint for the 50/50 chances. He is not a top class player. There are players who cant play football yet score incredible number of goals when it is created or when the ball is put in the right places. Lukaku is neither.

* No more Morata mentions, please. As the title signifies, this is Romelu's performance thread.

Kindly redirect any comparisons or allusions to Morata to the Lukaku vs. Morata thread. Those who flout that simple rule will have their posts deleted, and repeat offenders will be formally warned.

Thanks! :)

Size is his problem at the moment, he's too big.
wtf, were you saying this when he scoring regularly ? He has zero confidence at the moment, too hesitant, not instinctive enough.

That's really too kind. Just ban them without warning please

It’s not falling for him right now but he’s not hiding which is the main thing.

Still working really hard and he got 2 assists, that touch for martials goal was really underrated.

Yes he needs to find his scoring boots, it’ll happen. Was close with a few nice shots today, let’s hope he can end it against arsenal.
That was brilliant, first touch to a good space (was it him or Pogba :nervous: ?)

Think the chance he missed overshadowed a pretty standard performance.

Like others have said, head down, keep getting in the positions and it’ll come back.

For what it’s worth at times some of his passing was actually quite good. The finishing, not so good.

If that's a standard performance from him we need to upgrade yet again in the summer. He was constantly second best in duels, lost tonnes of possession with his heavy touch and generally looked 10 years older than he did in August.

Don't get me wrong, i love having him here, but we all know he can do a lot better than last night. Maybe he needs a rest?

Definitely him.

Quality turn and pass into Jesse for our 1st goal too.

And powerful run and a shot which Lingard should have scored. Good linkup play and run and before shooting from left side which missed the goal by inches.

I’ll never particularly warm to him, I’m just not a big fan and don’t think he’ll improve much from the player he currently is (not current form, just generally) but that touch for Martial’s goal - my word.

Didn’t think he had something like that in his locker. Hope he finds his goal scoring touch once more.

I thought he played well in the first half - worked hard, involved in a couple of goals and forced a decent save from his own chance.

Second half though... Might be worth benching him for Arsenal but don't think it will happen. I trust Mourinho to man manage him.

Credit where it’s due, but seriously? It was a very normal pass/attempt after really bad clearance from Watford, nothing special at all. I mean, it’s great stuff - but also something you will see in every lower league every week. By all means, it’s still an assist.

Yeah, this. No reason to apply some general statement to his entire 90 minute performance. He did well enough in the first half and he was mostly dreadful in the second. More of the first half and less of the second half please.

A lot of people in here don't understand what an assist is.

I think every single person on here knows what an assist is, so come down from your high horse. He did great for Young’s goal after Watford decided to commit suicide, but the assist came from Lingard. Funnily enough, Lingard’s pass to Young was atrocious, but the full-back messed up somehow and Young suddenly had the chance to pounce.

I was referring to those who claim he assisted two.

I disagree, I think you’re selling him short on that. It’s not simply the pass and touch, but the instant reaction to execute it perfectly. Not exactly Ibra levels of skill but still a very good assist all the same.

I was never a big fan of him at Everton, but I thought I was wrong after his start to the season. Disappointed that has fizzled out, hope he can get back on track.

He also scored a goal per game at the start of the season, but that only serves to highlight his lack of goals now.
Find the stats for the Watford game wrt aerial duels (I can't, and stats aren't a big deal for me)
It has been apparent that since losing his touch in front of goal, his effort to compete has dropped.

As I said, I hope he gets his head straight.
I don't know why you got so defensive, maybe you have spent more time discussing/defending him. This is the first time I've voiced any concern.
