He was superb first half, second half looks tired. Shame he wasn't subbed out instead of Martial.
 
Undid the good work he did by standing still like a waxwork and missing that sitter.

Still, can't ignore what he did earlier. Okayish game from him. Needs to start scoring.
 
He got his chances but he didn't take them and it's not just today but every games this season.
 
A couple of good moments, but utterly dreadful for most of the match. What bothers me most though is not his heavy touch or that comical moment when Rashford served him a free goal, it's how fecking lazy he is at times.

He either needs a rest or a kick up the arse, something needs to change that's for sure
 
Was dream signing this summer. Doesn't look good now for him. He really really needs to start scoring. I can't defend you that much romelu
 
Great in the first half but wow was that an embarrassment of a performance in the second half. We're stuck with two forwards up top, neither of whom can pass a ball or show any composure whatsoever.
 
Should stop opening news papers and media. Keep working hard.

Was not his day. Bad overall . Needs to find a way to not bulk under pressure.
 
Really off the boil at the moment.

That one Rashford laid off to him, with an almost open goal and a badly placed keeper to beat, reminded me of Rooney v Tottenham on the opening day a few years back.
Unfortunately there was no clown defender to tackle it into the goal this time.

Still, got an assist, and if we're scoring 4 with the main man not on it, that can't be too bad!
 
Serious questions must be asked about his suitability to being our long term, first choice striker.
 
He could and should have had a hattrick tonight. Missed two sitters in the process.

Really hope he doesn't turn out to be our Benteke.
 
No hold up play. Lost alot of duels. Should've scored. Needs a rest.
 
He's starting to get very annoying and frustrating to be honest with his critics. I shouted loud when he missed this chance. Ok you're not good at holding or linking the play but ffs finis this sitter !!
 
He’s playing with zero confidence at the moment. He’d have buried that chance a few months back without even thinking about it.

It’s a tough one. He needs to be taken out of the team to get his head straight, but being dropped could reduce his confidence even more.
 
Was presumably left on in the hope he could nick a goal or two and boost his confidence (and form). He looks tired to me though.

I compared him to Smalling in the summer, and again last week. He’s like when you stick the big defender up front in the last 10 minutes, except for 90 mins.
 
Wasnt a fan when he signed, but he started with a burst of goals so I kicked my self for being a negative sod. Now though, meh..
 
Jose must manage him better. He looked tired as feck and his confidence looks shot so why keep on playing him for 90mins.
 
Unlucky not to score. Dont get this putting him on the wing when Zlatan comes on. Should really give him a rest.
 
It's so clear that Mourinho wants him to start scoring again, and of course it would be good for us, but he really shouldn't start in the next two games. We can't afford his wastefulness, and he offers close to nothing in terms of hold up and link up play.

Ideally he starts on the bench for the foreseeable future and get the chance to earn his spot by taking his chance coming off the bench. I really hope Martial gets to start up front for us against Arsenal for starters. He's shown how good he is in a central role in the last few matches. Zlatan is clearly not in shape yet, but I'd also rather see him start than Lukaku.

But I'm confident that Lukaku is going to start against Arsenal.
 
Starting to slightly worry now.

I thought he was fecking dreadful in the 2nd half. Not just the missed chances but his general play. It's just not been good enough.

I hoped him breaking the drought against Newcastle would sort him out but he still looks completely bereft of confidence.

Maybe a big goal against Arsenal or City will get things going for him again.
 
Is there anything to be said for putting Martial up top instead of him against Arsenal?

I love Lukaku, I was and still am delighted that we bought him, but a rest may do him good.
 
Think the chance he missed overshadowed a pretty standard performance.

Like others have said, head down, keep getting in the positions and it’ll come back.

For what it’s worth at times some of his passing was actually quite good. The finishing, not so good.

Indeed. As were his lengthy goal droughts. It was widely predicted in the summer that we'd see more of the same here. We just have to be patient in his dry spells.

Yeah. But should we start with Ibra vs Arsenal or Matial?
And if it's Martial and Marcus who goes on wings. If we'll play 3-5-2 than it's easy, Val and Ashley on thw WB positions.
 
Eff his confidence. Every player & their mother gets dropped when playing poorly.

Martial was dropped, rashford was dropped & both are far from first team players yet. Mkhitarayan was dropped. Young was not even in the first team & worked himself up from albeit with poor LB's in front of him.

These players are not babies - he is a 80 mil pound player or something isn't he. Improve or there is plenty players waiting on the subs bench alone to take his place.
 
He missed that chance but he was still a handful and played a big part in two of the three goals. Not a problem and should not be dropped, especially as Ibrahimovic is clearly not match ready and Rashford not really on fire either and does not offer what Lukaku does.
