Robin van Persie

Tevez will stat but I wouldn't like to be dependant on him if I were in Mancini's boots. However with Aguero, Balotelli and Dzeko still at the club there is hardly any need for a new forward which is why I don't think they'll go for van Persie. For emergency options they still have Adebayor and Santa Cruz, although one of them will likely leave.

There's a bit of a question mark over Dzeko isn't there?

Yes, but no one wants to pay Dzeko's asking price. Milan wanted him but won't pay €20m. I think City might want to keep him eventually.

He'll go back to his comfort zone in the Bundesliga for half what City paid for him

Dzeko will be off, and no point including Ade and Santa Cruz both of which will probably leave, the latter especially has absolutely zero chance of starting games, but niether does Adebayor.

Tevez, Aguero and Balotelli can all play behind the striker so there is plenty of room for Van Persie. First choice I'd imagine would be Aguero, Silva and Tevez behind Van Persie with Nasri and Balotelli on the bench.

Plenty of room. More room than at United.

'I think this season we’ll see a better Chicharito.

'For the last four or five years he’s played all through the summer. This year, with the co-operation of Mexico, he’s had a proper rest.

'We wanted to give him as much rest as possible. He had a couple of weeks off and then joined the Mexico side for a couple of qualifying games before getting another few weeks’ rest.

'That was important for him and I’m sure he’ll reap the benefits.

'We’ve already seen the fruits of that in the early training sessions and I think he’ll have a top season.'

Ferguson seems to have plans for Hernandez this season, not sure how signing RVP would go along with that.

He's signing this week according to this
Didn't the IPO guff say that your spending 'might' go to £40M ie not enough to do that. The Star's source of Arsenal stories is taking Peter Hill-Wood to Rules and pumping him full of claret, fortunately he doesn't know much about the football side.

Still not convinced by this but it's £40m net, in addition to what we've done already.

These two purchases would be £50m, then factor in sales of Berbatov, Macheda and Bebe. Probably brings it to about £40m.

City will certainly scupper us for RVP though, I reckon.

It said £50m net. I think we'll recoup 15m in sales(much more if Nani goes).

He wants £100k+, which he deserves, but the Glazers might be hesitant to offer him that much.

That was a speedy response. Cheers for clearing that up, I never thought you'd get rid intentionally.

Most fans don't want him to leave and think that he'd deserve a pay rise to make him the second highest earner.

The contract talks have been going on for months now and every few days a new article crops up linking him to other clubs.

We would be mad to get rid and I hope that a new contract is signed in the near future.

Worth pointing out that he doesn't say he's signing this week. He says Fergie is hoping that deal can be completed next week. Also says that a transfer fee hasn't been fixed

He will also be on hand to press ahead with Van Persie's move.
Ferguson is optimistic that any further hitches will be overcome for the Holland striker to become a United player before the season's curtain-raiser in a fortnight.
The Arsenal striker, the current Footballer of the Year, has been courted by Manchester City and Inter Milan and his inclusion in the squad's pre-season preparation in Germany has increased speculation that he may even sign a new contract at the Emirates.

But he has not concealed his desire to move to Old Trafford and that is the ace up Ferguson's sleeve.
The United boss will have to compromise on his refusal to comply with the Gunners' £25m demand, with the final figure likely to be about the £20m mark.

Given that this will probably be the biggest contract Nani ever signs I think he's entirely justified in wanting 100k+. I'd hope we pay the man and keep him here, but all the Lucas stuff makes me wonder.

RvP U-turn! Robin van Persie now wants to STAY at Arsenal as Gunners eye £7m move for Ajax star

Van Persie’s complaints about Arsenal failing to buy at the top end of the transfer market have been silenced as Giroud, Podolski and Cazorla have been brought in...

I wouldn't be surprised.

From the moment he stalled over moving to City and you signed Cazorla, with us getting all stingy about his fee (precisely what he supposedly wants to leave behind!) I've thought as long as his bad handling of the exit can be left behind he probably would stay. That's a mouthfull and lots of ifs, but everything seems to be falling together in place for him to stay at Arsenal.

I've started getting excited about this potential signing again for some reason. IF we are to sign him, can anyone see us playing something like this?

------------------------De Gea-------------------------
----------Smalling---Vidic------Ferdinand--------
Valencia-------Carrick------Scholes------Nani-----
------------------Rooney---Kagawa------------------------
-----------------------Van Persie------------------------

Maybe we don't actually have a left back situation, and Fergie's going to set us up with 3 at the back...:) I don't know why that formation wouldn't work so long as Valencia maintained a decent level of defensive responsibility. That is a fecking amazing team, in my opinion.

You make it sound like it'd be a complete disaster. In that defence, you've got two of the best centre backs of the last decade, and someone who looks like he'll follow in their footsteps. The attacking prowess also is scary, and Carrick and Scholes is definitely strong enough in the centre to help control the game.

It hinges on whether or not you think Valencia is capable of providing a balanced ratio of attacking/defending down that right side. I think he can and, even if we may at times lack a bit of width on that side at certain points in games, the strength of that line up going forward is just shocking. It's strong all over to be honest, and is well worth trying against at least weaker opposition at some point in my opinion (assuming we sign Van Persie...).
