Robin van Persie

Its probably worth it for the Arse to sell RVP at a lower price to a team they are not completing with directly... didn't we sell Heinze to Real for less than we could have sold him to Liverpool for?

... that being said, watch the Arse draw Juve in the CL group stage.

That was because it was Liverpool, not because we were worried we'd be strenghening a rival.

Arsenal arent competing with United or City. They are competing with the teams underneath

Pretty stupid thing to say Arsenal or Chelsea are quite capable of winning the league, even Spurs or Liverpool can make things difficult.

If I were on the Arsenal board, I'd prefer to sell to Juve for £15M than United or City for £20M. Regardless of their recent lack of success, they're competing with us for trophies.

United, City, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal all have a chance of some description. Very unlikely it'll go out of Manchester and if it does go South you would expect Chelsea, but certainly a possibility.

Well that was last season in which we pretty much handed you the league by beating City in Feb and Liverpool also beat you at Anfield.

We're talking about the sale of Van Persie here. Whichever club he joins, his departure puts and end to Arsenal's chances of winning the league.

That said, can't blame Arsenal's board for being reluctant to increase the gap between them and the teams that will finish ahead of them. Not for the sake of a few million quid.

Yes, he's not going to OT. In fact right this minute he's likely to be playing for us next season.

I don't even want us to sign him. He had one good season and he'll just get injured knowing our luck. He'll go to City or Juve, or play for Arsenal and be almost a shadow of what he was last season. I'd rather us sign a midfielder and left back, and flog Berbatov if we can in January instead.

Arsenal have a 50/50 chance of top 4 this year. Less without RVP.

Arsenal are more likely to drop out of the top 4 than to win the league so it's no surprise that the former prediction happens more often than the latter. Neither will happen though.

Arsenal haven't a fecking hope in hell of being anywhere near the top next year.

Pete knows this and so do the other Arsenal fans. They'll be at least 10 points off by the end of the season.

I didnt realise it was a one match league. I guess everyone has a chance.

Spurs could win the league last season apparently.

I know that maths/stats aren't your strong suit but there are two games there. And the point was that you were handed an 8pt lead and fecked it up.

One for us and one for City mentioned. One each.

And the point is only 2 teams were ever in the race for the title. Unfortunately we werent the best

Surprisingly enough they both counted towards winning/losing the league. Even a draw at Liverpool would have won it for you.

Anyway, before pete derails another thread...

Why do Arsenal's top players always want to leave? What is it about Arsenal that drives them away?

And the answer isn't their unwillingness to pay the top wages. It must be something else.

We drew with Liverpool at Anfield and beat them at Old Trafford. We lost at Anfield in the FA Cup

And the answer isn't their unwillingness to pay the top wages. It must be something else.
Of course not. City paid a fecked Toure £80K a week, a lazy Adebayor £180K a week, an underachieving Nasri £160K a week and a big match bottler Clichy £90K a week. But they all left for the glory.

Because people offer them more money and unlike you in the case of Rooney (compare self-serving rhetoric to RvP's) we won't be blackmailed.

It's not necessarily about blackmail though is it? We can actually say to our players that we'll be there or thereabouts for most competitions, most seasons, and that we won't be weakening our squad every season. Arsenal can't say either.

It has nothing to do with your annual capitulations since 2004?

Yes, it must be the wages. Has to be the wages.

You're soon to lose Scholes, Ferdinand, Giggs and, of course, Ferguson. And you can't just go out and buy the top Brit/Irish talent for record fees as you used to.

We could say that in somewhat of a similar time frame, you'll lose van Persie and Wenger. You've lost the likes of Henry, Fabregas, and Nasri in the not too distant past and still managed to stay where you're at (top 4).

With the players we have an resources available, I think we can lose the players you mentioned and still compete at the same level we're at now -- title challengers to the bitter end practically every season. We've also coped with losing big players before. As long as we focus a lot on more defensive and midfield cover in future transfer windows I won't be worried.

Most of the time I don't quite get what you're trying to do though, unless of course you are intentionally derailing the thread lol. For the record, we did draw at Anfield in the league this time. But I didn't think you'd resort to all the what ifs a season can throw at us. What if Newcastle didn't get the biggest joke of a penalty? What if Evra didn't hit the post against Everton? What if QPR didn't give Man City the ball back for 5 minutes? What if Balotelli was actually sent off against Spurs and didn't score the winning penalty? What if Vidic was fit all season? The list goes on.

As for van Persie, he's gonna be dog-shit and injured again :p hope you keep him.

But back to the point of why your best players always leave...

The summer when Flamini & Hleb left, Fabregas was our player of the season then, so our best player stayed.

The summer when Adebayor & Toure left, Robin Van Persie was our player of the season then, so our best player stayed.

The summer Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy left, Wilshere was voted Player of the season then, so our best player stayed.

So your point is invalid.
