They have two unproven strikers to count on for goals. Not entirely unreasonable to suggest they both could flop/take a season to settle. Arsenal will always create chances, but it remains to be seen whether those two could put them away.

Chamakh.

that may once have been true withthe likes of fabregas, arshavin, rosicky, nasri, pires, etc etc in there side. less so if they are reliant on wlcott (may leave himself) song, arteta etc. they also used to get away with defensive frailties as the opposition who be reluctant to through man forward for fear of being ripped apart, i think they'l go into next season with a average back 4 average midfield and average at best frontline. i would fully expect arsenal as there are to finish outside the top 6

People forget that we mould your play around Robin and hence he scored so much. There ARE goals which he created on his own, but loat of goals were also created by his team-mates and when Robin doesn't get the service he gets with Arsenal, you can see what he did while at Euros.

If Robin leaves, we will change our style to concentrate on other strength and continue to score as many as we always do.

We all thought Arsenal would have a shit season last year when we won against them 8-2 but they recovered and ended up third. I have a good feeling that they will recover from the loss of RVP as well and challenge for a top four spot again this season.

They can't keep losing their best players and maintain position.

Trionz, If you lost RVP and didnt bring someone in, would you back your team to finish in the top 4 again?

Arsenal regularly get written off yet always managed to finish in the top 4. I expect this season will be no different.

I think plenty of credit goes to their rivals not doing as well as expected. With more and more cash invested they cant continue to mess it up every season

Well we apparently do.

True but the gap has grown between you and the top two teams. You got lucky last year with Chelsea being a circus and spurs being affect by Harry being favourite for the England job.

That said Chelsea players arent getting any younger and the lost of Modric will weaken Spurs so you clearly have still a excellent chance of getting third.

It's true that Chelsea and Liverpool spectacularly underperformed last season making top 4 easier than it should have been for both Spurs and Arsenal but the simple fact remains they still finished top 4 and have done every season since God knows when. You can only beat what's put in front of you as they say.

I was talking of someone with quality close to RVP.

It is truly very difficult to replace him.
I can see no striker of capabilities matching Robin's that is available, so i am happy with Podolski & Giroud.

We are yet to replace Fabregas or possibly never will be, but what we can do is delegate creativity elsewhere and compensate.

Same can be done with Robin. Before this season and half of previous, Robin didn't make a really significant conribution to our goalscoring, so it's not impossible to think of life without him.

It was though with Fabregas, we still miss him.

Your question of can we make Top4 without a player of Robin's qualities, in short, a truly worldclass striker, will still be answered by me as Yes.

You can say, we were unlucky that in our worst possible start to the season,
1. Chelsea bought a promising manager at the back of his team going unbeaten in domestic league plus Europa cup triumph, they bought Meireles in summer, Torres, Luiz in January the previous season and Cahill in January.

2. Spurs & Newcastle had their best ever team in ages.

3. Liverpool spent 100m on players.

That's 4 teams competing against us for 2 spots; and eventually we came through.
For whatever amount of feck up they came up with, we managed twice of that and yet we are lucky.
They have been useless to capitalise on what we went through.

For me, next season we will be doing lot more than just mind the gap.

As long as Wenger is there I expect them finish comfortably in the top 4 - though it might take a monumental feck-up of a league season from Chelsea (...again) or City for Arsenal to finish above them.

Spurs are no threat to Arsenal of course; whatever happens at either club, Arsenal always finish above Spurs.

Without RvP, Wenger will adapt the side and move on; that's what you expect from a manager of his class - he is by some distance the second best manager in the league after Sir Alex IMHO.

United
City
Chelsea
Spurs
Arsenal
Liverpool
Newcastle
Everton

Doesn't take a genius to work out that there'll be a point in time where the effect of losing so many quality players in a short period of time will catch up with you. From then, it's a slippery slope to Liverpool.

to be honest, Sagna & Robin are our last bunch of truly worldclass players remaining at the club.
Robin will be our last major concern of 'replacing', after that anyone can be replaced easily.

"slippery slope to Liverpool."
I feel humiliated.

Sorry, I meant the gradual slide to mid-table obscurity.

I don't think you'll be relegated within the next 1-2 decades.

as long as Wenger is there, Arsenal will not become another Liverpool.

He knows how to have his teams play good passing football. He will find good young players to replace those who leave. But Arsenal cannot compete with the likes of City and Chelsea...and tbh, I hope they don't sell their souls like those clubs.

Yeah, replacing him with someone of his quality was never going to happen. Still, i hope you lot finish in the top 4 but it'l be tough with Chelsea having added a few very good players and Spurs hanging on till now to what they had + adding a few. You'l be rejuvenated by Wilshere coming back though.

The most interesting scenario would be if they didn't make the CL. If so, I could see the likes of Song leaving. But the real disaster would be Wilshere getting itchy feet.

Wilshere is a cert to leave in 2-3 seasons if they dont start winning things if am honest. He's too bloody good. He'l have all top sides wanting him..

Yep, there a good team from the way they buy and promote, hope they don't go down that route

Song is already making preparations. I believe he has Darren Dein as his agent now. He's another who will forget that it's Wenger who made him, will get a big money move and then fade into obscurity (a rich man though!).

As for RvP, we still have the same players who created all those chances for him. We now have two additional quality players to get on the end of those chances so I'm alright with it. We will miss those wonder goals that only RvP can belt in, but we might also get a few more goals from simple tap ins and headers from the new lads.

Can't Arsenal ban their players from having Darren Dein as their agent? It's getting ridiculous now...

Like ourselves post Ronaldo - the quote came from Deschamps originally, from memory - you'd probably lack a bit of 'fantasy' from previous years. I've not seen a great deal of Giroud but he looks a very straightforward, no-frills striker. And we all know Podolski is a good player without really being in the top bracket.

Who will get the captaincy? Vermaelen?

if he gets over this awful injury, he is going to fulfill his potential. Think he will be some player. Not convinced he will up and leave...He is an Arsenal lad and the club will be able to pay him enough to keep him.

The one area he may find wanting is if Arsenal struggle each year to win titles.

I think Arsenal are not too far off the top. If they get a good run and keep a relatively injury fee squad, they may get near the title.

I am not convinced City are goingt o sweep all before them. They have an awful lot of players to keep happy...may be a disaster in the making.

would not be surprised to see Liverpool among the top 5.

Think they have got a pretty steady manager.

It'll take him a season of two to offload the dross and bring in players who suite his style. And we're yet to see how he can do in the transfer market at that level. I can't see them finishing ahead of Arsenal or Spurs for now.
