I know we need a CM more but it would be worth it to see Pete Storey in meltdown.

ALEX FERGUSON is in London today amid claims he is still pursuing Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

The Manchester United boss will be among the guests at the Labour Party Sports Dinner this evening at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

And sources insist Fergie remains in the hunt for Van Persie after the Dutchman refused to extend his deal with the Gunners.

United’s rivals Manchester City are determined to step up their interest in last season’s double player of the year once they have finalised the £6million sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Spurs.

Van Persie, however, is believed to be concerned about boss Roberto Mancini’s policy of rotating his strikers and possibly being a sub.

United do not want to be sucked into a tapping-up row like City and are reluctant to pay £30m for a 29-year-old.

But Fergie would love to pair him with Wayne Rooney to form a formidable partnership as he bids to take the title back to Old Trafford.

Whatever he decides, Van Persie wants his future to be sorted out before Arsenal leave for their Asia tour, which kicks off with a match against a Malaysia XI on July 24.

The Gunners are due to face City in Beijing on July 27.

United fly out to South Africa on Monday at the start of their own pre-season schedule — which also includes a stop in Shanghai, China.

If the tabs are right, competition will be hot for 2 forward positions next season.

Rooney
Hernandez
Welbeck
Kagawa
Lucas
Van Persie

Probably a bit more than we need. :smirk:

Apparantly he might stay. Bit of a Rooney saga if you ask me.

I hope he does stay at Arsenal - don't want him at United.

Yeh that's what some dude was saying on SSN yesterday.

Something like the timing of his statement was odd as the senior head that deals with contracts was on holiday then so he just thinks it's his way (or Rooney's way!) of bumping up the offer.

Last time we played Spurs they got a two goal lead with a deflection and a blatent dive for a penalty and we still caned them 5-2. Even in the games we've lost over the last couple of years they've been outplayed. And they always fold up against the better teams whereas we are quite capable of beating City, Chelsea or Man Utd.

Oh ffs, Id 8 2 be as deluded as you.

It's been stated that he'll be in Emirates for the Labour Party Function(who he has backed in the past). So ofcourse, he's there for RVP according to Sun.

It's going to happen....

BELIEVE.

I don't want to believe. I don't want him at the club. Also, there's absolutely no chance we're even interested IMO.

He's 29 (I think) and last season apart he's incredibly injury prone.

He's either stay at Arsenal (probable) or go to Spain.

Yeah they should have left that bit out to fool the muppets. It completely ruined their story.

A team isn't just players. Also, after losing RvP, i don't see where the goals are coming from.
Where Arsenal win, it's not that convincing either. Where they lose, it is.
Ekotto is miles ahead of Santos or whomsoever is at arsenal's LB position.
Vertonghen and Kos and Vermaelen and Kaboul are all similar, for me. Maybe Vertonghen is the best of them, who knows? Plus, Arsenal don't have much depth there, Spurs have more. Song isn't that much better than Parker, Wilshere's young and coming back from injury. Modric rapes Arteta. RvP's gone - Adebayors miles better than Giroud/Podolski. Bale, again much better. VDV/Lennon on that wing are better than Walcott for me. Ox will develop but is still young.

Plus, Arsenal just don't have goals in them, after RvP leaving them, most likely. They just don't. Apart from Arteta, they seem scared to shoot. They always square the ball to RvP. What're they gonna do when he's gone?

That's just bollox. Arsenal always have goals in them because they win the midfield and make chances galore. Only Man Utd have scored more since the PL began.

Song is much better than Parker. Walcott's stats blow VDV and Lennon's out of the water (Lennon was out for a while though). Vermaalen is a class above those other defenders. Most important, Wenger or AVB?

Arsenal takes it for me, despite losing RVB. What's the Modric situation anyways? With him gone, I don't see them finishing above Newcastle.

Yep, it is bullshit, of course they will still score highly. Much in the same way when similar rubbish was being said after Ruud was leaving, where will the goals come from etc...

Yeh the "where will the goals come from" is moot really. You move on and get replacements in. That's football.

Yeap, RvP had a very poor end to the season as well, missing chance after chance. Form he continued with Holland.

We were never as reliant on Ruud as Arsenal have been on RVP in the season just gone. In fact, the main reason Ruud left was because Saha and Rooney were doing so well for during his final season. No sign of anyone at Arsenal looking even close to stepping up in Van Persie's absence.

That much is true. Podolski is an okayish player but I don't rate him that much, Giroud I haven't seen so I can't comment. Let's not forget just how much RVP carried Arsenal last season.

Since the PL began....Oh thats ok then. DONT WORRY CAF, OUR MIDFIELD WORRIES ARE OVER!! It doesnt matter that our midfield is one of the weaker ones we have had in twenty years, we USED to have Keane/Scholes/Beckam/Giggs so everything must be fine.

I don't have much of an opinion on either of them but it would be incredibly risky to expect them to take over from the league's top scorer in their first season at a new club, playing in a different country.

If Arsenal are going to cope without Van Persie they really need someone already at the club to step up. Ironically, Bendtner is probably the most capable of doing so IMO.

They have two unproven strikers to count on for goals. Not entirely unreasonable to suggest they both could flop/take a season to settle. Arsenal will always create chances, but it remains to be seen whether those two could put them away.

Chamakh.

The rest of the team will chip in to replace those goals easily, at worst they will fail to replace 20% of his goals immediately.

It's not like without RVP they play with 10 men is it, as much as he scored the most you have to remember he gets the most chances too, chances that will still be there for other players without him.

Every time Arsenal lose one of their key players I think it will be the straw the breaks the camel's back but, while they are not the force they once were, they have not completely collapsed. I am sure someone will step up and they will cope without RVP, just as they coped without Fabregas, Hleb etc.

We were never as reliant on Ruud, In his last season he scored 24 goals in 47 appearances.

A 19 year old Rooney scored 19 in 48 And Saha scored 15 in 30

This season Van Persie scord 37 goals in 48 goals, other then him Walcott has scored 11 in 46, then three other players scored 6.

We he hasn't gone yet and we've bought two players who scored 39 league goals between them last season.

I'd add Flamini, Nasri, Cole and Gallas to that list and ask have they really coped though?

They've gone from meaningful title contenders every season to scrapping for CL qualification, miles off the pace at the top of the table. Something which I would directly attribute to losing the players mentioned above.

It's Premier League goals that need replacing and we've all seen more than enough examples of how difficult it can be translating goals in foreign leagues into goals for Arsenal. Not least with the last couple of attacking players Wenger signed from Ligue Un.

The brilliance of Wenger: how would you be doing if you'd lost Ferdinand, Rooney and a few others in the last five seasons?

When was actually the last time they mounted a proper title challenge?
In 2007/08 I think. From title challengers the fact that they qualify for CL is heralded as a good season for them. They haven't coped well at all.

The brilliance of Wenger: how would you be doing if you'd lost Ferdinand, Rooney and a few others in the last five seasons?

The brilliance of Fergie is that we've never managed to lose most of our players and has delivered trophies which incidentally Wenger hasn't delivered and that's why players are leaving your club. Ronaldo is ofcourse an exception.

Right. They are not the force they once were but they have not completely collapsed. It is death by a thousand cuts, really, isnt it. The point I was trying to make, but not succeeding, is that I dont think there will be a spectacular difference. Itll be more that they will fall another yard or so off the pace. Still just about good enough to finish above Spurs, so they are all happy. But a little bit further away from us and City. And then it is on to next summer, when Vermaelen puts in his transfer request, or will it be Wilshere, or will it be Song....

The brilliance of Wenger: how would you be doing if you'd lost Ferdinand, Rooney and a few others in the last five seasons?

We've lost multiple players for a long period of time the past few seasons. Quite comfortably topped the injury charts last season with goalkeepers rotating. Only 2 players managed 30 or more starts in the league and there were 16 players that started 10 or more times.
That's serious first team instability.
