Robin van Persie

I find it a bit odd that there's not more interest from around Europe.

Iirc, the foreign clubs can sign a pre contract agreement with him in Jan, with no fee involved. Whereas clubs from the same counry cannot. (i think, though im sure if im wrong it will be quickly pointed out.) :)

I don't think it's wages putting foreign clubs off, let's not forget they don't have to offer him as much, as he will pay less tax abroad.

For me it's about the fee being demanded by Arse to take him now. I think most will wait to see how it pans out and if he is still at Arsenal come the end of the window, they will look to use what money they have to tempt RVP in Jan, without having to pay anything to the Arse.

The way i see it.

There have obviously been plenty of interest, there has to be. United have to offer considerably more than those other clubs to even get Wenger to sniff at releasing him to us.
That is what we have done, we have offered a large fee. Wenger is asking around to see if any other clubs would offer anything near to what we have put up (reportedly 20m ? ), and he is having no success. Turning down 20 mil and taking, for example a 10m offer from juventus would surely be bad business and disappoint the board.

It is just a waiting game, it is 50/50 whether he will join at this point. But the next couple of weeks it will be revealed :devil::devil:

Fergie was reportedly spotted outside Euston station earlier, wonder what he was doing in London probably something to do with the olympics.

Have we?

That picture of Fergie seems like it was taken by someone that has no real interest in football (or wumming), so seems legit enough.

When I say legit, i mean it was taken at the place and time mentioned, as opposed to the random shot of Van Persie at an airport in the other thread for example. There's probably a whole host of reasons why he could be in London today, but I reckon it may well have something to do with RVP.

Why on earth would Fergie travel to London to sign Van Persie?

If the clubs agree a fee (and that's a very big 'if') then the next step would be for Van Persie to travel to Manchester for a medical. Fergie can meet up with him there if he wants to.

Well Fergie did escort Berbatov from the airport so City couldn't get in touch with him. Maybe he is gonna do the same with Van Persie but from London this time;)

Persie is still in Germany though, no? Unless Arsenal flew back to London yesterday straight after the match?

Well we flew back straight from Gothenburg and Hannover so maybe Arsenal did the same.

Many people compare this saga to the Rooney's one. If that was the case then Wenger would have to do extremely well to deceive Van Persie. Rooney won PL medal the very same season, but I don't think even Wenger can deceive himself, let alone Van Persie, that they stand any chance to do so.

I don't think Van Persie is only driven by money. Footballer of his quality and age should have already had some big trophies to his name and he knows it. Now or never for him I believe.

i think you may be over estimating a managers involvement in transfer dealings. wenger isnt in a [position whereby he dictates fee's. using your scenario whereby we offer £20m and Juve offer £10m then we will get him regardless of what wenger has to say

Muppetry aside for a moment, I feel it's significant that RVP threw his shirt to the fans yesterday, and appeared (yeah, I know...) to have been crying after the game as he applauded the supporters. On the arguably stronger first point: I mean, surely it's not common for players to throw shirts into the crowd after insignificant matches, especially after such a lacklustre personal performance? I just can't imagine him staying at AFC - for one thing, where are the statements from RVP, saying that he's pleased with the new signings and will therefore reconsider signing a new Arsenal contract? Why is Wenger not doing as one might expect him to, saying that 'RVP will NOT got to United'? These things in total surely mean van Persie's likely to leave, and soon.

Business deals can be done through all sorts of ways and means, depending on the complexity of the deal and willingness of parties to come to an agreement. Some deals are relatively easy and can be done over the phone / email, some may require teleconferences or webinars to get more stakeholders involved.

Some, as I would have no doubt this would fall into the category, involve a much more tactful approach. A face-to-face visit often results in previously aggressive or stubborn attitudes to be softened somewhat and can make coming to amicable agreements much easier. Storming out of a meeting is a much harder act to perform than not replying to an email or hanging up the phone.

Not that I think SAF would necessarily be the person who would take on the task of travelling to London to meet Arsenal's decision-makers, but I can completely see why United would make the effort to meet face-to-face, on Arsenal's patch, to try and smooth a deal through. If SAF is involved in that process then it can't be a bad thing.

Or... RvP is already sewn up and SAF is now off to meet Spurs to iron out Modric's transfer. ;)

I fully expect that Fergie has decided to take a more proactive role in closing the transfer deals after a string of failed bids in recent years.

Is there a possibility of RVP signing a contract with Arsenal before getting sold, to increase Arsenal's leverage in case he does leave eventually? Sort of like Ronaldo with us?

Not at his age surely. It will only drive the few interested clubs away.

Yeah, he does look resigned to leaving at this stage I think, he's also probably frustrated at the fact that nobody seems to want him!

Van Persie is in a awkward position, if he decides to see out his contract, he will be 30 and we or any big club will not be interested. Really he needs to move now. If he doesn't he is stuck at Arsenal, not that bad an option, but he may want a change and what in his mind is a better chance of trophies.

No, and that never happened with Ronaldo. He signed his last contract with us in 2007 after his breakthrough season, was linked away in 2008, indeed he was begging to leave, and was sold in 2009. No player with either a brain or a competent advisor would sign a contract purely to increase the club's power over their registration, it'd reduce his own options as far as moving goes, and it'd decimate any signing on bonus he got from the new club. If he cares about the club's money that much he could donate some of his signing on fee to them.

Fergie doesn't look too pleased there. What from that picture can we deduce that's Euston station anyway?

On the page he has other pics, such as this one which shows the Melton street sign at Euston station.
