Robin van Persie

If the reports are true and Wenger's trying to stop him joining us then it only means Arsene lost it completely. It looks as if he gives priority to his personal, still running animosities + inferiority complex over his club getting more money.

Give up, Arsene, admire you for the brand of football and principles, but you ain't gonna win the thing you want. Not in 3 years certainly, you know that (or maybe not?) Van Persie happens to know that as well. Even my chatte knows that.

Maybe he's hoping that if he can keep him, the team might click and do great(which is a good possibility due to the good signings), and Van Persie may change his mind and decide to stay. Will we want him next summer of he stays? A 30 year old, injury prone player, especially when Welbeck and Kagawa will have (another) year under their belts? Not as likely, and tbf I can see Wenger's reasoning. If Rooney had one year left, and said he wouldn't renew it, would you prefer to sell him to City, or keep him for a year and hope he rethinks it?

The difference is City ARE our rivals, both on and off the pitch. In fact much bigger than Arsenal. I didn't say I want Van Persie here as well, I'm sort of divided on that. Don't want to see Welbeck's development being stagnated.

Considering that, I would much prefer to keep Rooney in such circumstances. As for their good signings I'm not sure. I get this feeling that whoever they get they would still be incapable of winning the league. It's strange, that impossible to describe frailty I can sense when I watch them year in year out for what, 8 years now?

In my opinion, Arsenal are using the "We will never sell to Manchester United" line, not because they will never actually sell to us, but to drive the price up and to get other clubs interested and hopefully create a bidding war. Van Persie is leaving and Arsenal have prepared for that, but they are damn sure going to get the most amount of money they can for him.

Where United have handled this brilliantly is by publicly announcing we want to sign Van Persie. If Van Persie has his heart set on coming here, a higher bid from City or Juventus won't make a difference (think Berbatov's transfer saga) especially when the transfer period is almost over. This will probably go to the last day.

We may not think Arsenal are our rivals, because they aren't, not for a league position anyway. But we are their rivals, and that's why they are so against selling to us. As Im sure you're aware, at the start of the noughties, we were huge rivals, with the Keane vs Viera rivalry representing it. They hated us, we hated them, mainly because we were the two best teams in the land. We have moved on however, and are still in the top two, while they have went backwards, and havent been top two in a long time. Therefore, we dont care much for them, while they naturally have us as rivals, as why not strive to be better than the best?

I think Cozorla is a great signing. If they can get Wilshere back too(not guaranteed at all tbf), and with Podolski and Giroud added, they could win something next year(providing Van Persie stays). Not the league obviously, but the FA cup definitely, especially if they stop faffing about with it, and try to win it. They need to concede that the league is out of reach, and try their best to win the cup.

It will be august 31st in 2 and a half weeks before we hear any more of this story as Arsenal have already bought his replacement and dont need to sell quick so that they can buy someone else and bed them in before the season starts yet they will pretty much have to sell him in the end yet will probably wait till the last second to try to get us to panic and pay the extra cash they are looking for so this transfer has midnight august 31 written all over it

Yes, fortunately enough I'm as old as to remember our rivalry with them but it's long gone. Teams became bunches of pussies and you won't see it again probably. Maybe you're right though and they still feel it somewhere deep. Everything in that aspect stems from inferiority, we on the other hand can be somewhat patronizing towards them and have no further reasons to hate them.

Come from here http://twitpic.com/photos/CabbyTez

Those two guys are our new left back and midfielder. Times are really hard

wenger said he wanted it resolved by the start of the season so if they are intending to sell they need to get a move on

instead they will wait - might get a million more and will be running round the transfer market like fools at the 11th hour

Arsenal will probably replace Van Persie with Dempsey or someone relatively easily attainable

if I was Arsenal I would just keep Van Persie

to be honest the baldy looks a bit like Iniesta. Maybe Gill screwed Fergie up with the photos. The other was supposed to be Xabi Alonso.

They've already replaced him.

Looked bloody good too. He's more what Wenger had in mind when he moved to 4231 than van Persie (see Adebayor). Big powerful CF surrounded by technomidgets.

It's inching closer.

A left foot striker to compliment the right footed Rooney, Wells, and Chica...

He is almost 26 and has played a grand total of 2 matches in european football. He was playing in Ligue 2 up till 2010. He screams mid-table player. I just dont think he will be a top four player.

Valencia?

Valencia had experience of playing in the Premier League for four seasons, had a pretty successful world cup 2006 prior to joining United. Giroud on the other hand has a great one season for Montepellier. Yeah that's an excellent comparison.

For Wigan. And successful World Cup 2006? They advanced from a group consisting of Germany, Costa Rica and Poland. Got knocked out by England.

My point is that some players make the step up, some don't. See what Premier League experience did for the likes of Berbatov, he flourished at United didn't he?

Regarding WC2006
Valencia played in all of Ecuador's 2006 FIFA World Cup matches, and was chosen as a nominee for FIFA's ideal 11 team, which recognises the top stars for every position in the World Cup.[6] He was also shortlisted as one of the six potential candidates for the Gillette Best Young Player award

I don't know what constitutes a successful World Cup, But I'd say Valencia had a pretty good WC.

I'm going to bed now, and hopefully I'll wake up to some great news, so I can stick it to my Arsenal fans. Ooooh happy days!

All of this silly (but fun) nonsense aside, that's the thing that puzzled me. Unless Wenger still thinks he can convince him to stay in the long term, I don't see how or why he should be given the armband.

Absolutely agreed. He shouldn't remain captain, as he'll most probably leave next season.

Btw, nice tagline mate.
