Whats all the B.S about in the papers saying the real deal has cost "70m"?

Can't be far off really.......he's on at least around 150k a week, so that plus £24m, plus signing on bonuses and potential league/cup bonuses would make it like £60m+, so if someones adamant he's on 200k, yeah £70m if all goes well and United win tons.

It's a pointless thing really, they just bring it up when they feel like, otherwise most big transfers are "really" £100m++++

Exactly. Shock, the cost of the Rooney transfer has cost United over 75 million so far. What a waste of money I think not.

Well in that case i wonder what the ronaldo deal "really cost". ha

Not sure if it has mentioned but the signing of RVP appears to have given everyone a lift, from the manager, players right to the fans it has given us a belief that we mean business and can compete for the truly world class players.

I firmly believe that we should continue to buy emerging players and develop them as we have done with so many players but on occasions we should buy a RVP for the here and now.

Who cares about the overall cost?

Since the Glazers we've all been worried about cost of salaries, debt etc...I got better things to worry about i.e. paying my bills than worry about United too.

Of course every player costs more then just his signing fee. Hardly shocking news tbh but I guess the Mirror needs to make everything they write like sensational, shocking news to the world.

Shocking how several thousand pounds/euros/dollars per week can make a difference in a couple of years right?

I'm wary of believing newspaper headlines like 'RVP will cost United BILLIONS!', as there's been a host of Arsenal-sympathetic articles & even tweets by journalists since the transfer was announced; Henry Winter, for one, implied that RVP was disloyal and classless. The scousers were right about the 'London-based media', after all! ;)

You tend to find it's also the same people that are obsessed with the Glazers stifling our spending that then express dissatisfaction at a transfer that doesn't provide guaranteed 'value'.

I couldn't care less what the 'total cost' of an player is. As long as they contribute to our success and ensure United stay as near the top as possible.

If they are going to include wages as part of the cost, they should include merchandising sales, etc and deduct the total cost. Well, they obviously won't as it would take too much time and make too much sense.

Well that is the Gross vs Net argument, but it still wouldn't make any sense because newspapers would then be saying: "Manchester United will make a profit on Wayne Rooney as long as is a fan favourite, wins a Champions League and a few Premier Leagues during his time at Old Trafford."

They should say:

Transfer Fee: Cost one club pays another.
Transfer Cost: Total cost of one club paying another, the signing on fee and any agents fees.
Total Cost: As above but including wages.

It's funny. As if papers and websites didn't enjoy talking about the '49m pound contract' he's signing. So now the Mirror has come and done some fantastic journalistic work: They added the numbers.

Pulitzer for them.

Just got back from holiday.

Incredible news! What a signing and what a message this sends out to the rest of the league, the rivals especially.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Stroke of genius by Fergie. From the sounds of things, bringing RvP to OT has lifted the entire dressing room and could be just what we need to attack the league and CL this year. Sometimes its not all about the future, its about the now.

Just seen his MUTV interview, I really like him. He seems like just an all right nice, pleasant and polite guy.

Yeah, really reminds me of him too. It's the facial expressions and self-belief, I think.

Probably the fact that he's also a fecking amazing Dutch forward and all. :)

He's got that Ruud aura about him when he talks.

He's like a clone of his.
1) They're both dutch
2) They're both tall & have dark hair (for the lolz)
3) They're both magnificent strikers, particularly exceling in finishing.
4) They both seem like well educated, coolheaded individuals
5) They both sound somewhat similar
6) They're both VanTheMan's.
7) Most importantly, they both play(ed) for United, under Ferguson :)

Where have you been on holiday ? Prison ? Even if I go on holiday, I usually have access to papers or internet :)

Access is one thing, demand is the other. Don't know about Jaap but I always alienate myself completely from all media when on a proper holiday:drool:

That interview on MUTV was good. He is very knowledgable and knows facts and figures. Clearly a football fan and someone who will add maturity to the the squad.

I enjoyed the "Let's do this" message to the fans at the end too!

Someone needs to do a Meme

I agree, future catch-phrase? Better than "why always me" that's for sure :D

He was a bit off with how long SAF's been in the game managing tho, think he said 26 years, it's closer to 40 years I think...

Watching this video I can't help but hoping to see him play up front with Berba at least once...

@piersmorgan

Funny, I really thought @Persie_Official was different. But he turned out to be just another mercenary, heartless, selfish little s**t.

@piersmorgan

Careful, Shrek @WayneRooney - you've got a treacherous new Donkey arriving.

@piersmorgan

Congratulatons @SamNasri19 - you're no longer the most loathsome ex Arsenal player in Britain.

@piersmorgan

What a sickening betrayal of Wenger too - the man who stood so loyally behind @Persie_Official through years of injury. #VanPursestrings
