I'm still not convinced this is exactly what is needed this season for United.

RVP had what 8 seasons at Arsenal and nearly every season, except for last year he spent an awful lot of that time injured. :(

It seems an awful lot of money for someone whose 29. :(

Hope Wellbeck and Hernandez will be happy warming benches this season. :(

What an apt tagline.

Awful isn't it?...

Enough with the sad smilies, how can you possibly be upset that we have signed one of the best strikers in the world?

I doubt this signing will negatively impact on us buying other players (if we are in for them) such as a CM and LB.

He had an amazing season last year, his previous years were riddled with injury. Let's see what happens this year.

There's an article on the guardian that reads like must wrote it, saying this signing is just to mask their evil ways.

We've reduced the debt and had another great summer of signings. Some people will never be happy.

I have weirdly mixed feelings about this signing. He's quality and that will always be a good thing. But, I don't know - it sort of feels like bad karma. Ridiculous I know. But he shouldn't be signing for one of their greatest rivals (I know - they haven't been serious competitors for years etc). I know it's illogical and I'll be quite happy to take the goals he scores and creates but it just feels...wrong somehow. It's going to be very, very strange seeing him in a Utd shirt (if this damn medical is done and dusted that is).

You'd think footballers are finished at 29years old.Look at the likes of Di Natale,Zlatan

Still going strong at the ripe old age of.....30. Strange example but I agree with your point.

An Arsenal supporting mate of mine said that RVP wanted to stay and that Wenger kicked him out, so that lessens how good a signing he is. The same guy that said this time last year Chamakh was better than RVP and the media agreed with that by the way.

Not to mention we've got a generation of footballers now now where sport science monitors players bodies to an extreme level, Wenger even pioneered it. On top of that RVP himself hasn't overly exerted himself like some have, being forced to play a limited amount of games.

He's got a good 3 or 4 years in him.

I first heard this being confirmed on the newspaper as I commuted back home from work...I was giddying it up on the train.

Very exciting signing :)

I once said that I seriously disliked Van Persie and said he looked like he was more full of himself than Ronaldo even, that doesn't count anymore, right?

I neither speak nor understand either language (and didn't have much volume on anyway) so considering Vermaelen is Belgian, I went with that.

You got the point... :smirk:

I did, but I felt like being deliberately obtuse, mostly because there's no such thing as a Belgian language... ;)
