What's everyone thinking about squad numbers?

Obviously the obvious one is 9, but you can't give it to him before Berbs has gone - and he'd have to have one for Monday. Is he then set with it for the season?

Only available ones that spring to mind are 2 (no), 13 (no) and 20 (maybe).

To be honest though, I'd like to see Welbeck given the number 9. Won't happen now mind.

Lindegaard's new number.

He'll get the 9 J, for sure.

-----------De Gea-------------
Rafael----Vidic----Rio----Evra
-----Carrick----Scholes---------
Nani------Rooney------Kagawa
----------Van Persie-------------

I'd like Valencia to start, and he will get a lot of games. Cleverley/Ando can rotate with Carrick and Scholes, whereas Welbeck can play on the inside left (like Kagawa can) and will get a decent amount of games up top, as well Javier.

That is a very interchangeable front 4 which is something I really like. Nani can switch wings, Rooney and Van Persie can swap and Kagawa can roam in to the middle. That is what my first choice would be.

Rafael should take the no. 2 and RvP can have the no. 20 or no. 21

it's getting to the point that.....

a) making a team selection is a real mind feck
b) there are no undroppable players
c) some players may want to leave the club (if that's the price for the success then so be it)

You know you're in good shape when Ashley Young, player capable of scoring goals like he did vs Spurs away, Arsenal at home or Blackburn away and generally playing well over the season is likely to find problems getting much playing time. While Downing is first choice, star winger at Liverpool.

?

Think that's the one I'd prefer. Kagawa behind Van Persie with Rooney and Nani on the wings. The likelihood is that Rooney would come inside a fair bit and often rotate with Kagawa, with Evra hopefully providing enough width from the left back position to compensate for that.

It's not perfect by any means, but it looks good.

VERMAELEN: But who will keep me company in the treatment room?
RVP: Not me, I'll be keeping Anderson, Cleverley and the ghosht of Hargreavesh company.
KOMPANY: Hehe... it'sh a pun, right? Guysh? You know, 'company'? My name is Kompany.

*awkward pause*

RVP: You hev the tulipsh in Belgium?

brilliant!

If he failed the medical better we find out about it; given his injury record I would hope they would do a pretty thorough job on him, rubber gloves and all. We don't want another Hargreaves.

Somehow I don't think you're quite familiar with where the patellar tendon inserts.

We've already done that at the beginning of last season and for a month or so we were the best team on the planet. Hard to emulate for a prolonged time. Injuries obviously didn't help. In that 8-2 game against Arsenal we ran roughly twice as many km as we did against Blackburn at home. It was no surprise we murdered them and the turmoils they were undergoing at that time aren't the only explanation. Perhaps we weren't prepared to continue in this way and lost freshness due to injuries and fatigue of the players who suddenly didn't have equal replacements.

I hope we can repeat it and retain it as the main system.

I think that the current side is more suited to that type of game than last season's side. I mean, such system will need two complete strikers capable of dropping deep, win the ball and attack. We only had one capable of playing that role (Rooney). Welbeck has the technique and attitude but he's not a WC finisher yet, Chica is a finisher but his overall technique is lacking while Berba lacks the speed to swiftly convert from attacking midfielder to striker. Under such circumstances Rooney was the target of our opponent's markers. Things will now get complicated for them thanks to RVP and Kagawa.

Kagawa will also offer alternatives for Nani. He may lack the blistering technique and pace of the Portuguese but he's an extremely intelligent player with a good eye for goal + workrate. He'll give us options as RM/left sided playmaker.

SAF's biggest gamble will be CM. If Ando-Clev can remain fit then well and good. If not things may get sour especially since Giggs-Scholes are getting old.

So thats us with 5 of the top 15 assisters in the league last season. Valencia, Nani, Van Persie, Giggs and Young... With Kagawa and Rooney still to mention.

Next would be City with 3.

Rumour has it Mancini and a van full of goons have kidnapped him in the trafford centre.

@DiscoMirror
Senior figures at #MUFC saying van Persie deal now unlikely to be completed until tomorrow. That, of course, is subject to change.

There should be a couple of pictures taken by the media if he had already arrived at Bridgewater, like the Young and De Gea ones

Medical isn't going so well, apparently he has a bad haha feck off.

What if we can't agree personal terms and psg swoop in with an offer:nervous:

I wouldn't worry about it. For a start the guys flanked by United people lol. Second there was always the possibility, that it wouldn't be concluded until tomorrow.

Probably personal terms are still being thrashed out which is understandable. Thing is we do not know where RvP is exactly at now

I don't understand how we can announce the transfer before agreeing personal terms. You have to assume we already agreed terms. Otherwise it gives a tremendous amount of bargaining power to his agent.

"Oh you don't want to give me an extra 4m? OK then we're off. Good luck explaining to everyone why you already announced the deal."

We'll have definitely agreed personal terms. In order to avoid accusations of tapping up, though, we have to go through the pretence of agreeing a fee with the club first - before being allowed to talk to the player.

Add to the fact that Fergie has talked about him playing on Monday. He wouldn't talk like that about a player he wasn't 100% certain was ours.
