Hope we are also purchasing a tub of that placenta fluid that's helped Van Persie with his injuries.

Why is he not at the hospital yet?

En route.

Welbeck says he's really looking forward to playing with RVP.

Maybe Young was going to pick him up, but kept cutting back inside.

Why is Fergie listing Shinji as a striker?
probably because he mostly plays in the position behind the striker, therefore taking up 1 of the 2 striker slots when played in his preffered position

This has been a crazy past two months for us United and Laker fans. I thought it couldn't get any better after the Howard trade but now where signing Robin Van Persie. Wow.

Yeah, and when you think about it, Arsenal = Orlando due to losing their best player and not getting a sufficient replacement, atleast Borussia Dortmund = Phoenix got an adequate replacement (Reus/Dragič).

Against the best sides? Who drops out, Valencia? Or does he play in CM in a 4-4-2 instead of Scholes/Giggs/Cleverely/Anderson? Or does he play in CM in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 and we shunt Rooney to the wing?

They all sound like bad ideas.

Bad ideas or not, Kagawa is too good not to play against the best sides!

I've never seen Kagawa play. Assuming then that he's not better than Rooney and RVP, and he's not playing in midfield in a 4-4-2, it sounds like he's going to replace Nani or Valencia.

Take away some of his effectiveness if you're going to shove him to the wing.

No doubt about it he gets into our starting 11, he's looked a class above most of our players so far. It'd be ridiculous to put him on the bench. Against the best sides we can go 4-2-3-1 with him on a wing if need be, but there is no doubt that he should be starting. Both RVP and Rooney are also capable of rotating to the wing, so a front four of nani,RVP,Rooney and kagawa would be great. As much as We all like Valencia, technically these players are all superior. Don't forget that kagawa could be perfectly capable of playing in center mid as well, he's probably better there than our other midfielders bar carrick.

Also I'm not exactly sure if you're being serious....

Kagawa played very well in central midfield this preseason, against Hannover I believe, so there's hope for that. But you may well be right, apparently he plays on the left for Japan.

As Brwned said already Kagawa is a very similar player to the likes of Mata, Silva and Hazard who all supposedly prefer to play through the centre but are versatile and skilful enough to play a nominally wide position and still be very influential. Modric was used the same way at Spurs for his first season or two, before he developed into a very competent CM.

I'm convinced Kagawa will also play a lot of games next season as one of two central midfielders.

Kagawa will be the catalyst against the big teams. He's the only player we have who can play as the most advanced player in a midfield trio effectively, operating between the lines behind the striker and helping in midfield.

In general though, I expect him to feature as one of the front four players, either on the wing or behind the striker. He is too good of a player not to play.

IMO (I stress this is my opinion only) Rooney is neither the best player in the hole or the best striker to lead the line at the club. Clearly he is still one of our best players and will be accommodated into the starting team though. But what a position to be in where we can not play Rooney and still not have a drop in quality.

Right, so as I say displacing Nani or Valencia.

That's great in all respects except that it means Rooney on the wing (or RVP benched).

He'd have to be bloody good to justify starting to dick about with Rooney's position again. An interchanging 3 behind RVP would be great (Some of the best football I've ever seen us play was in the second half of 02/3 when we had Giggs, Scholes and Ole interchanging behind Ruud). But again, that means no Valencia, unless he's at right-back.

Fair enough, to each his own, but Rooney's still this club's best player, and whenever he's not on the field is an automatic drop in quality. Granted it shouldn't be so noticable this year, but still, it's just logic here (talking about my personal opinion ofcourse).

---------De Gea
Rafael Vidic Rio Evra
Cleverly Carrick Anderson
----Rooney Kagawa
------Van Persie

Nani and Young provide backup for Rooney and Kagawa; Hernandez and Welbeck are alternatives to Van Persie. Unfortunately the only role I can think of for Valencia is as backup to Rafael - if we're not playing out and out wingers, his one-footedness becomes an even more serious liability.
