He needs to get his old green predators back on! Ever since he's moved to these fancy orange F50's the prolificness has dried up a little.

He wore those boot's through his last season with Arsenal and his last season with us.

Bring them back RVP!

Said to my mate yesterday I'd drop him for a game or two. Doesn't look fit or arsed or both. We could use the games to put Mata in the hole and hopefully it gives RVP the jolt he needs to get things going again.

As vague an idea as it is, he didn't look to have a lot of 'fire' about him last night. But perhaps that's just how the same lack of confidence that's affecting the rest of the squad is impacting him.

Or drop Rooney rather than the only forward we have currently looking like scoring.

Had Welbeck or Hernandez missed the chances Van Persie missed last night they'd be getting torn to pieces on the Caf today.

You can argue that the header was a hard chance to covert, that it came at him quickly and he didn't have a chance to make the textbook hearder downwards. However, I don't think Van Persie made it as tough for Sczcesny as he could have as he just headed it straight. But then Van Persie is no Alan Shearer in the air, which is one of the reasons so many of us have bemoaned how many hopeful crosses we've made this season. You can't expect Van Persie to thrive off of aerial deliveries, like Henry that's not his game.

The first chance though, one on one with the keeper, and on his left foot...I just remember the reaction when Hernandez screwed his chance against Sunderland and some of the heat Welbz has got for tripping over himself in a similar position. A player of Van Persie's quality has to be rifling that kind of chance into the back of the net.

Any striker worth half a damn should be able to net the first chance - loot at Sturridge last night...

Van Persie's body language doesn't look right.

I agree.

People will say I'm being OTT but footballers know people scrutinize their social media posts, they also know when they are at a private meal they are under no obligation at all to tell people or put it up on the internet. If Van Persie is posting that he's eating with his good friend Vida then he's doing it because he wants people to know, aware they will jump to their own conclusions.

 I don't think he was being entirely serious.

Nope, i dont think he headed it straight, it was a few feet wide of goal (the ball that came to him i mean). There was nothing else he could have done there.

The first chance, i do agree. Should have scored there, as well as done better on the other chance he dragged wide.

Scored 3 in 3 before last night and as soon as he misses a chance he's not arsed. He missed some clear cut chances last season too when he was banging them in left right and centre. It's just one of those things. I don't for a second believe he's not arsed. RvP always wants to score goals.

Footballers are idiots. I wouldn't give them that much credit if I was you.

He should have said "Eating with my friend for another 3 months - but after that he is dead to me - Vida (soon to be addressed only as Mr. Vidic by me and my wife)"

Scored 3 in 4 since returning from injury. You're right... drop him.

He has still been scoring goals (albeit not as productive as last season) but you can tell it's been a largely frustrating season for him judging by his body language.

Some people might claim that judging someone by their body language is reading too much into it but I disagree - you're body language tends to describe your mood most of the time.

I think with Fergie going, Moyes coming in, the injuries his had, the lack of service... everything put together has made it very frustrating for him. He is a positive lad judging by his interviews and interaction with social media, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is thinking of leaving at the end of season.

He has no particular affiliation with our club IMO - the 'little boy' thing was blown out of proportion and it was more the fact IMO that we were champions and had been dominating the league for so long and he liked our winning mentality that we had under SAF.

3 in 4 games and our two best efforts last night would suggest he is. He's not whining at the ref as much as Rooney but somebody else could fill that role.
I guess I see what you mean. I don't feel his movement is that sharp at the moment, and you should also take into account that one of the two best efforts last night was a huge miss by him. I just don't feel like he's on top form at the moment, I don't know whether it's motivation or fitness though.

Last season, he'd have buried those two chances. He's suffering from the striker's malaise - lack of service. All this punting into the box isn't where Van Persie excels.

The second one, if we're talking about the header, there was nothing wrong with what he did. Chesnut just made a great save, but the header was great. The first chance in the game though was really poor for a striker of his caliber, and there's another instance during the game where I thought he should do better, when he was fed by Mata, then got back onto his right and blasted it wide. There were options in the center, and even if he didn't feel like passing it, he should've done much better even on his wrong foot. I agree that he's not getting much service, anyone would, but I'm not sure that explains it all.

I thought Van Persie was poor, by his own high standards, last night. Probably couldn't have done much better with the header (giving him the benefit of the doubt that he couldn't angle it back across goal) but he really fecked up the other two chances he got. Arguably the most clear-cut chances either side got all night. Plus he didn't create anything of his own bat. Something he is capable of doing when he's at his best.

He's only showed glimpses of his best this season really. Which is a pity. Most likely the injuries are to blame. If he can stay fit we'll probably look a lot more threatening.

I thought that he should have directed the header downwards. PIG would have stood no chance. The angle I saw on the telly made it look like this was the obvious choice but as we all know, camera angles can deceive.

Ah ok, I see what you mean. You're probably right, heading downwards would maximize the chances of it going in, but what I meant was that at least his choice wasn't baffling. The other two instances I was talking about, he was at fault I'd say; in the case of the header, he might have done better, but it wasn't an easy one and it was still a very good effort that would have gone in without the excellent intervention of the GK.

He managed to get a load of power into it, which was impressive and probably meant he wasn't thinking about placement. On the replay you can really see how he bursts into a quick sprint before making contact.

He's not at his best by a good bit but that just shows the quality of the player that he still has three goals since he come back from quite a long lay off. You can't drop a player like that.

I thought he was stretching for the header. Which made it difficult to get over it and angle it down or back across the goal. Would need to see a replay to be certain. Fantastic save, to be fair.
Yeah, I said to a friend during the game that while it wasn't an ideal effort I think it was about the best he could do. Had to concentrate on getting as much power on it as he could.

Some of the sitters he missed last season were absolutely incredible.

Yes Madrid being one of many. So it's wrong to suggest that he'd have taken these chances last year.

Real Madrid, Reading, Sunderland (last season and this season), Bayer Leverkusen, Fulham, etc. Tempted to make a video of all the sitters he has missed, I have them all saved on my computer, but I would receive abuse.

Save it for if he fecks off in the summer... :nervous:
