Robin van Persie | 2012-14 Performances

Yeah, but it's same with Welbeck too, we hardly change our style when playing Welbeck, but if Welbeck just had this type of performance, his thread would be full of moaners, double standards.
It's the goal. Welbeck rarely scores when he plays bad (for a while he rarely scored). Someone like RVP can put in a really poor performance but still bang in an important goal.

In the context of what happened I'm far more pissed off at captain legend who opted to knock down a hospital header to Carrick rather than a true Vidic clearance. If that goal hadn't gone in, we'd only be talking about our 'style of play' with no emphasis on individual players.

Why pick on van Persie? No striker in the world would have done anything today with our atrocious tactics. Whip it in all night long.

I said this while he was injured but people refused to believe, apparently we were creating tons of chances and Hernandez and Welbeck were just missing. It wasn't our hopeless gameplan no, it was all down to the strikers. All we needed was Van Persie and Rooney back and then, and then, and then...

And Drogba even occasionally received the ball at his feet in dangerous positions.

Novel idea isn't it, playing the ball to feet for your forwards? Its amazing strikers actually run on to through balls and score. You dont need to cross it constantly. Apparently other teams do this all the time. Someone should tell Moyes.

And the worst thing is that none of the crosses actually get to any one at all. RvP, Drogba, Rooney can't do anything with that.

I can only really remember the ball being passed into his feet once, when Carrick fired it into him on the edge of the box. He took a lovely first touch, held a defender off and slipped a ball inside the fullback for Januzaj(?) to cross. It was another cross, but it was from the right areas.

I might as well log off for tonight. I have absolutely nothing positive to say whatsoever about the direction this club is heading, fast.

He's done well to even score since his return all things considered. A testament of his quality

100 per cent agree. Pele would struggle to score for us playing as we are and Pele was great in the air!

Aye.

Mental to blame him for missing 1 chance, the one in the 1st half. If we wanted to hoof crosses to our strikers, we should have bought crouch.

Why the feck are we comparing RVP to Welbeck when there is no comparison at all.
feckin hell you cant blame RVP for any of this.

Now I am blaming him

Isn't it easier just to read full post before having a go at someone:

That was worse performance than probably any of Welbeck's this season, even though we created few chances for him and Rooney, but both of them are intouchable, but we can blame Welbeck every time we lose points because that's how we roll.
Btw, I am not blaming van Persie for this draw, or saying that Welbeck is better than him, it was just poor performance, every player has one, but I hope people will realise that you can't blame your third choice striker for not being the difference when this season our world class striker looks like average player.

Who else thinks that RvP could very well move on in the summer?

First of all, RvP has come to win trophies. Not for the money or anything else but winning trophies. We won't win any in the next few years realistically. Maybe a Mickey Mouse cup but that's it. I mean the EPL last season was surely great for him but certainly this situation right now is not what he imagined last summer. He is a world class striker and still one of the best players in the league. He is 31 next season and has maybe 2-3 very good years left. I mean the rumors that he is unhappy are always there and nobody could blame him if he is. Also if the board is that dead certain that Moyes is the man, it maybe would benefit us too. It hurts me to say and I'd much rather keep our players that are unhappy with Moyes than blindly backing him, but if the board really wants to send a message in backing the manager, this would be it. You either give everything for our new manager or you are gone.

I really don't want him to leave but right now us and RvP don't fit together at all.

I'm genuinely worried that he will move this summer. Wengers comments at his press conference when asked about his chances of going back to Arsenal, worry me.

We probably have more chance losing Rooney with the contract situation. Really hope we keep hold of Robin, he's by far our best player.

I don't think we can question his stomach for the fight, he stood by a shite Arsenal for years. He left to win trophies and that may not be possible here for the next couple of seasons.
Either way, if he wants out fair enough, we need committed players

I'd be gutted if he left, however, it would be best for the remainder of his career to do so. He isn't, and never will, be suited to the tactics Moyes chooses to adopt. He isn't mobile enough to run the channels, nor is he good enough aerially to influence games in such a way.

Ideally, we'd play in a way that suits what is in my opinion, our best player. Sadly, I can't see that happening any time soon.

As much as I'd like him to stay I wouldn't be that bothered. He's 31 in the Summer so chances are there's only 1 more season of him at his best anyway and after that, whilst he'll still be a good player, he'll start to decline.

I don't really get this wanting out thing. Wasn't he talking about winning the CL or something? Of the CL contenders, Real, Barcelona, Bayern etc which of them need him or have space for him?

Edit: Chavs I suppose, but can you see him playing at Arse, United & Chavs?

Let's be serious, we're not selling and releasing 17 members of the squad. If the club was in a precarious financial situation too where every penny counted, I'd buy into these little things but when you're likely to lose so much experience elsewhere amongst anticipating the departures of two or three players who the manager doesn't like...you assume RVP stays.

The rebuild has to be short and fast and it has to include the best of what we currently have. He's the best out and out forward the club has had since RVN, the club holds the cards here. They are not forced to sell when he's half way into a contract IF they want to keep him (which I assume they do). I'm sure he's not insanely happy with the way we're playing but nothing tells me he wants out of United..yet. But it's natural to panic when things have gotten this low so fast so carry on.

I've been saying it for a while - I see RVP leaving before Rooney. The former doesn't really have a tie with the club - he won his first PL with us last season, so I can see him move on and leave the PL soon to try elsewhere.

He's completely happy and everything about the current situation is fine.

He'd not be winning anything at Arsenal and he's not winning anything at United. Back to square one for him although he did win the league last year which wouldn't have happened with you lot.

Under Ferguson he would see out his contract and stay beyond with a new one IMO. Given current circumstances I won't be surprised to see him ask for a move in the Summer and be replaced with a proper target man.

Do we need a "proper target man" if he left? I mean I could see Moyes wanting a big strong lump to run the channels but surely Rooney has to be considered to move back right up the top, number 9 is probably his best position as we saw a few years back, which would allow Mata/Januzaj to operate as a real no.10.
Right now if RVP wanted to leave (Which I couldn't really blame him) i'd entertain the possibility of letting him leave (injurys, age) moreso than Rooney.

Rooney isn't tall enough IMO, a bit pointless to deliver all these crossed to him when he's not going to finish them. We need someone in the mould of Drogba.

Since when do we use him as a target man? He's off form though, we need need him back to himself sooner rather than later. Would have been better off with Hernandez playing tonight.

Does he finish any match without missing a sitter? Really should have scored today.

He was badly isolated in the second half. Obviously, because we don't work on passing plays and, generally, the kind of football that brings the best out him, he struggles to get involved. All strikers miss chances, the idea is to keep creating them. We can't manage the latter for obvious reasons.

Thought he was shite today tbh. Missed a sitter in the first half and generally looked a bit off the pace, why he didn't break with Rooney at the end I'll never know.
