He didn't celebrate in the first season. Not that it mattered because everyone jumped on him a little more erratically than usual, thus celebrating for him. It's the 2nd season now. I think he's allowed to celebrate. Rooney celebrates against his boyhood club. He even kissed the United badge infront of them after they were getting stuck in to him. Not expecting Adebayor style nose-rubbing, but I think he has the right to express his joy and/or relief for scoring for United and hopefully helping us get our season back on track against the current best team in the league.

You seem to be he only one who thinks he should not celebrate because of his former teammate feelings. Maybe your logic is a little off here.

The majority's not always right but yea, maybe it is a bit off.

Fingers crossed for him today so he's able to pick a side.

Unconfirmed reports that RvP is out of tonight's fixture due to a tight groin. Nothing official yet.

Robin van Persie out with a groin strain…

No, because it's not them who left him but him who left them. I'm baffled by some 'logic' displayed here.

Nobody's expecting them to feel guilty nor do they feel guilty, it's just a proper sign of respect when you don't celebrate against your former team, I see nothing ridiculous in it. Adebayor indeed is an idiot and his celebration was childish to say the least, just to wind up the fans. Immensely small time from him, even though hilarious from a neutral point of view ( like yours or mine ).

But as a fan of his new team, the one currently paying his salary, I could then claim disrespect at his not celebrating a moment that is intended to make us happy (I wouldn't, but I'm just demonstrating how ridiculous this idea of hurt feelings is, particularly when it hardly soothes the hurt feelings of the fans.) It's just stupid and disingenuous, and an obvious ploy by well-paid athletes who for some reason can't take not being liked. It's somewhat more understandable if it's a reciprocal gesture, ala Ronaldo at Old Trafford, following the reception he got (still rings a bit false, but anyway.)

That's why I loved it when Rooney kissed the badge in front of the Everton supporters several years back.

If he was that bothered about upsetting Arsenal fans he would not have fecked off to Manchester United.

Keeping quiet if you score against an old team is just the polite thing to do nowadays.

It reminds me of another ridiculous gesture, when tennis players raise their hand following a net-cord winner.

Yea I understand but I'm rather keen on opinion that he shouldn't celebrate and that's pretty much it. As fans, we should understand if he feels that he shoudn't celebrate because of his team mates, ex manager or whatever, he spent bloody years there. To be fair, I'd consider him a right cnut if he did some excessive celebration ( a la Adebayor ).

This is where 'agree to disagree' comes into play.

He's just a magnificent player. There was one turn he did in the 2nd half that was just

Thought that was one of his best in a United shirt. Work rate from Rooney and hold up play from van Persie were key today.

He bossed Vermaelen all game long. His hold up play and strength doesn't get mentioned enough. If he's given the ball, it sticks. Every time.

Who said those two can't play together?
They just needed a consistent run of games to build up a partnership, you can see it developing these last few weeks. Long may it continue.

Absolutely loved his celebration. Was brilliant today with his workrate and playing for the team. Didn't get many chances (poor crossing from Evra and Valencia) but never stopped running for the team. Great header for the winner too. Top class player.

RvP scoring in 3 consecutive league games against the arse since leaving them for us. And after 2day's goal celebration can you imagine the reception he's gonna get from the arse fans for the return fixture :)

His link up play with Rooney at times was wankworthy. We have a great chance if these two guys continue playing well.
